Mom Accused Of Letting Son Drown Because She Hated Him

Lakeland, Fl – I know this is from last month, but dammit I wrote it up yesterday unaware of that fact and it seemed a shame to just toss it in the trash.

Police say a woman in Florida purposely left her 1-year-old son in a bathtub to drown because she hated him. According to the reports, 32-year-old Neha Patel admitted that she hated her son, Isham Patel, since the day he was born and blamed him for her depression.

On Thursday, she was alone with the 1-year-old when he began crawling towards her. In an effort to curb Isham from ever approaching her, she told police she slapped him before putting him in his crib for a nap.

When he woke up, she placed him in a half full bathtub and then walked out of the room. When she returned 10 minutes later, she found Ishan submerged and unconscious. Instead of calling 911 or performing CPR, she loaded the boy in her Toyota Sienna and took a road trip.

First she drove to a supermarket parking lot, then back home, then to Ocala and then to Tampa International Airport. During this time she says she knew Ishan was dead because he was cold and blue.

While she was out with her dead son, her husband had been trying to reach her from work and returned home at around 1:30 p.m. to find no one home. He called police later that evening to report his wife and son missing, explaining that his wife suffered from depression and had not been taking her medication.

Neha arrived home at around 2:30 a.m. Friday. She walked in carrying Ishan’s body and placed him in his crib while telling her husband she had drowned their son. When she heard her husband begin making phone calls, she stated she didn’t want to go to prison and left the home.

Police would find her back at the Tampa International Airport sitting in her van. She told them that she was planning on jumping off the parking deck, but wasn’t able to because of the people who kept walking by. She was taken into custody and charged with charged with first-degree murder.

I read yesterday that it appears that this bitch beat him before letting him drown. Of course she will be playing the poor me, I have postpartum. STFU. I had undiagnosed postpartum until almost a year and I had two babies at once and I never did anything to them but care for them and love them. Asshole, asshole, asshole. Oh and the signs were all there people – she didn’t want this child and made that pretty clear. Why hadn’t anyone done anything? Does anyone know why she was still able to be alone with this baby when she herself said she hated him?

The saddest thing is that she will probably walk, just like Andrea Yates. And I agree with CT, why in hell would you leave her alone with the baby if you knew she was off her meds? That baby’s picture is heart-wrenching! He has no light in his eyes, he is so sad.

My only hope is that the prosecutor pays close attention to her words to her husband when he told the police that she left because she didn’t want to go to prison. That shows that even in her depressed state of mind that she knew her actions were unlawful (to put it mildly). So, since she knew right from wrong in her current mental state, I say…….FRY THE BITCH!

Someone I know suffered from Manic Post-natal Depression and she also tried to drown her baby. Thankfully she didn’t, as she said, something just snapped in her mind just the moment she walked into the bathroom with her daughter, and it felt as if her own mind was returned back to her and she was able to “see” again. Both her and the baby are extremely happy now, having a healthy mother- child relationship and she went on on to have another child since. I’m not sure where I am going with this story, just felt like it’s relevant.

P.S. Could the hate have been brought on by a forced marriage maybe? And not wanting to have kids but being forced to anyway? Just an afterthought.

As soon as I started reading this article, and I swear to God this is true, I thought to myself, this bitch looks like she is from India or Pakistan but this sounds like she has got to be from Florida. I know that is says Florida plain as day at the beginning and whatnot but believe me I just glossed right over it. I really started paying attention in maybe the third paragraph. Of course I was correct. Something is wrong with the residents of Florida I’m telling you. Florida, hands down,does tragic and heinous, along with stupid and pointless, along with selfish and depraved, along with evil and hellbound, along with sick and twisted along with many many many more expressions of BAD better then any other geographic location. I fly into Miami every summer on my way to the Cayman Islands and its very beautiful to see the keys and stuff from the air. Enchantingly beautiful. I have a feeling that the whole area though, is something like the MicMac burial ground in Pet Sematary. Just an evil place where bad shit happens. Florida, you suck.

This woman has mental illness that goes past depression including postpartum. The child is dead and nothing at this point can change that fact. Will justice be served if she goes to prison? Many will shout yes, but I am not so sure.
Not that this is an excuse for murder, but the poor kid may have learned to hate himself from his mother. A miserable life would have lay before him. Look around your surroundings today and look at other adults and try to see their childhoods. Sometime, oftentimes, I look around and ask myself, “Who the the hell fucked him/her/them up?”The husband was possibly in denial. He may not have believed that depression was anything more than being undisciplined; I don’t see that as entirely unusual among the general population. He may never had witnessed any abuse and was probably shaken to reality when his son and wife disappeared. I don’t know the family’s economic status, but as with most parents in America, day care is forbiddingly expensive.I know very little more about the aspects here other than are mentioned here, but there is definitely an abundance of tragedy here.

I feel the same way. I have a 5 year old son and a soon to be born son. I love children. When they want to cuddle with you it makes you feel like the most awesome person in the world! I would have gladly taken this baby boy and loved him and raised him. Why didn’t the father protect his son from his crazy wife???? He’s an idiot too.

For all those who say this is Florida, be vigilant in ur own neighborhoods as this happens everywhere! Look at Ishlan’s eyes in this picture which is what we All need to look for to stop this from ever happening again to any child who can’t defend themselves or let alone speak the word help.. I’m also for the fact that the dad had a part in this… not stoping it is the same as turning the water on…

I look and act a lot like my father. My father isn’t so fond of himself. So, basically he’s been ambivalent of me since birth. Walked on egg shells around him my whole life. There are pictures of us, me a baby, and him just looking at me with this angry ‘wtf this is thing?’ look on his face. Sums up our relationship. Just saying, being a lot like his mom (don’t know if he was or wasn’t) wouldn’t always be a positive.

I’ve been experiencing a bit of postpartum depression since the birth of my second daughter in February…this bitch is not depressed, she’s a fucking lunatic with a touch of the old postpartum psychosis. I may be depressed, but I look at my beautiful almost one month old infant who screams solidly every night from 8pm-12am and cluster feeds like crazy, and still all I can think is how perfect and how beautiful she is, and how lucky we are to have such a lovely and healthy infant. To slap, to hurt, and then intentionally leave your baby to drown…I hope she dies a horrible, horrible death.

I believe that Andrea Yates was genuinely mentally ill. She had a history of it and was told not to have anymore babies She was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. Her husband Rusty Yates kept insisting that she have more babies and her mental condition just kept getting worse as she had more children. I don’t think that she did it out of hatred of her children. She was just a very mentally ill women.

Do they think that or just say they think that? If i hear someone with children is depressed I make a point of spending time with the parent(s). Not that I give a shit if they want to kill themselves (everybodies personal choice) Depressed people are not depressed they are dangerous, petty, hatefull, I thnk of it in terms of lose prevention, a store has policies to greet customers to reduce shoplifting, people need to do the same thing. I was in the same boat- 2 babies, no diagnosis/clue until they were about 16 months old. Depression doesn’t make you beat and kill people- you choose to do that. It might make you think about crazy shit, but it’s your job to take care of it as soon as that happens, or to simply choose not to act on the crazy thoughts. Poor baby.

You’re not supposed to give babies plain water, at least not very young babies. Everything I read said to not give babies bottles of plain water or over dilute formula to make it last longer.

I was thinking the same thing. My son was born on Feb 20th and he has his nights and days mixed up (or so I’ve been told, I was gearing toward him simply trying to torture me) and he screams all night and cluster feeds to the point that there have been several nights I’ve been near tears, and I still look at his twisted, angry little face while he’s crying and think how I just wish he could get some sleep because I know he’s probably as frustrated as I am. I can’t imagine seeing the kind of pain on my child’s face that this child is showing in his picture and not wanting to do ANYTHING I could to fix his broken little heart. I agree with those who posted that there’s more wrong with this woman than simple post partum depression. There are some women who simply don’t bond with thier children and that might be a part of it. However, it looks like there has to be some psychosis involved that isn’t related to depression or a lack of bonding because, unlike Andrea Yates (for whom I had a great deal of pity from the start), this bitch doesn’t seem to give a fuck and simply acted out of selfishness and a bit of a tendency toward the sadistic. But, I’m no psychaitrist.

When you have a wife who outwardly expresses hatred for her child I don’t care what the circumstances are you need to be worried about your child’s welfare. Not saying these are easy choices but your child’s life should come first. There are always options.

Article doesn’t say whether or not the wife had made actual threats against her son. If she didn’t, he probably had no reason to expect her to harm the son. And the mind of the insane is incomprehensible to the mind of the sane. Without witnessing an actual threat, her hurting the SON wouldn’t cross his mind.
