Murder Charge For Naked Man Who Took Fire Truck On Deadly JoyridePort Royal, SC- Last Friday, a small coastal town was terrorized by a nude man who commandeered a fire truck then struck and killed a pedestrian during a destructive joyride.

It seems that Kalvin Hunt, 26, decided to abandon his escort during a stroll outside of the Beaufort Naval Hospital, where he had been admitted for reasons unknown due to federal privacy laws.

Once he had absconded, Mr. Hunt happened upon an idling fire truck which was innocently participating in a medical call in a nearby apartment complex. Likely fulfilling a childhood dream that involved big trucks, lights and sirens, he hopped in, got naked and drove away in the $663,000 vehicle.

Sadly, his funny-crazy stunt took a sharp turn into psycho-crazy when he veered into oncoming traffic and hit six cars, then struck and killed a pedestrian, 28-year-old Justin Miller, before running into some trees and totaling the truck.

Despite being pinned inside the truck, Mr. Hunt was able to fight off two police officers and a paramedic. His memorable afternoon was brought to a standstill when a Taser was used on his naked ass. Hunt was shackled and then admitted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment.

For his little escapade, Hunt was initially facing multiple charges — including theft of a fire truck and assault and battery — but on Tuesday he was officially charged with the murder of Miller.

“We charged him with murder because of what we found in the investigation as to how the pedestrian was struck by the fire truck. It was intentional, and that’s how we came up with the charge in conjunction with the solicitor’s office,” Cpl. Bob Beres with the SC Highway Patrol said.

      Holy shit, there isn’t anything sane about what this guy did.  But I hope he still does all his time.  Sane or not, he should be held accoutable for that young mans death.

      I am not a psychiatrist or a lawyer, but my guess is that if there are insanity defenses that are plausible, this is one of them. If he is nuts, then he really doesn’t belong in a standard issue prison

      This whole thing is sad.

      I will also say that the words taser and naked together in the same sentence always makes me giggle.

      I was on the way to ladys island to pick up my niece when this happened and had to watch the whole thing happen…horrifying. As was traffic for 2 hours afterward.

      Many prisons don’t have the capacity to deal with someone who is mentally ill with violent tendencies.  It’s not fair to the staff of a prison to send people like this there.

      But even beyond that, mental illness has been a mitigating factor in legal proceedings for centuries.  The reason we differentiate between first-degree murder and second-degree murder is that premeditation suggests that, if released, a person is more likely to kill again than someone who did so in the heat of the moment or even accidentally.  If a person with a treatable illness kills someone before getting treated, it just doesn’t make sense to hold them to the same level of accountability as someone who intentionally kills in their right mind, as the mentally ill (but not, treated) person does not carry the same likelihood of recidivism.  

      That said, if a mentally ill person is not treatable and has violent tendencies, they should be separated from the population forever.

      This solider was probably given a lot of medicine at the hospital. I suffer from PTSD and the VA has given me pills that fucked with my head and made me think crazy shit. I never acted on them but had to be locked down until the effects wore off. The hospital should be accountable for letting him get away.

      I wonder if the facility from which he escaped has any legal culpability for his escape, seeing as I’m willing to bet money he was being held for psychiatric reasons. If he checked himself in, perhaps not, but if he was admitted under a PEC for being dangerous, then yeah, they may have some ‘splainin’ to do. I guess it depends on state law.
