Ohio School Shooting Leaves 1 Student Dead, 4 Others InjuredCHARDON, OHIO – A shooting at an Ohio high school this morning has left one student dead, four others injured, and one in custody.

Official details are still sketchy, but initial reports were that a gunman had opened fire at Chardon High School this morning, wounding five students.

Three of those students were transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center, where one later died. A 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were taken to Hillcrest Hospital where the boy was in serious condition and the girl was stable.

The suspected gunman has been identified as another student at the school. He turned himself in to bystanders outside of the school after reportedly being chased out of the building by a teacher.

Chardon Police Chief Tim McKenna will update the public at a 4 p.m. news conference.

dammit kids… really??? i just dont get why taking a gun to school and shooting the place up is a cool thing to do for these little bastards now a days… i mean come on… when i was a kid and i got pissed at someone in the school i would just beat the piss out of them and or date their sister and get a tuggy and brag about it to their friends… not go postal and shoot the damn place up.. i feel no sympathy for the kids that do it.. i think they should be put down immediately and less kids would think it was cool to do

  • rensuchan

I wonder what provoked this one…

Usually the depressed ones shoot themselves at the end too.  I’m going to place my bet on bullying.

  • malq

I am surprised to learn that according to  The School Associated Violent Deaths Report, which is an in-house report of the
National School Safety Center dealing with school shootings and other
violent deaths within schools that shooting have actually gone down since 2005 significantly. there is a nice bar graph there. by down significantly I mean like 75%. Thank you  @Dakota Valkyrie  who linked it in the forums. does the ‘@mention’ function work on the front page?

    http://www.schoolsafety.us/media-resources/school-associated-violent-deaths

I can only associate the drop in the wake of Columbine and the 5-6 year lag for the government to make improvements at huge cost to the taxpayers. However, it is money well spent.

  • reapre

I’m not going to defend a “bullies” actions, if there even was a bully.

Taking a murderer and calling him a victim? No, WTF?  He’s a murderer, a victim MAKER, not a victim.

Sympathizing for a kid that shot up a SCHOOL because 1 person MAY have been “mean” to them…is extreme over-reaction.  Imagine what would happen in their GROWN up life, if they ever got a job for retail OR fast food and worked one day! They’d fucking DIRTY BOMB the entire city.

  • malq

Your point is well taken, but no one is defending the shooting.

  • malq

Being bullied is a pussyfied excuse  IMO. We didn’t have that card when we were young. We had to deal with it. And we are stronger because of it. Crying to mommy and the police was fruitless. You grew a spine.

  • rensuchan

Precisely, I never defended the murderer.  I’m only speculating on what sparked the shooting.

  • rensuchan

Nice find.  Maybe one day it’ll be zero.

  • Andy P

I wish these idiots would get the order correct although that seems to never be the case.  The order of operations here is 1) Shoot self.  2) After #1 is complete, shoot up the place.  Thanks.

Exactly – most of these kids coming up appear weak to me.

  • JGo555

The best revenge one can get in reference of those assholes in high school is to have a better profession than their asses. Especially with the popular assholes that end up peaking in high school and the rest of their lives is spent doing shitty jobs that they hate.

That and blowing off the 10yr reunion. No fucking way I went to mine. Why in the fuck did I wanna see those assholes that tortured me for being a little too innocent for being in High School?

Why in the world doesn’t every school. Day Care etc. have a metal detector in it? I can’t believe they don’t after all these school shootings. GEESH!

  • Athena

Because metal detectors are expensive, unpopular and questionably effective solutions.

When my husband was a kid, he went to a middle school that employed metal detectors.  Parents didn’t like it because it made the kids feel like they were going to prison for six hours a day, and the kids were able to easily circumvent the detectors by throwing their backpacks over the fence in an inconspicuous spot, collecting them once they got in.

  • Josh

How old are these old school standards? Just curious.

Bullying is such an excuse. There was a girl who made my life HELL in middle school. Turns out she was a lesbian and I think was facing her own coming of age hell and took out her frustrations on me. But she was MEAN. And she was big so there was no way I could have fought her. I also grew up in a house full of guns and I never shot my school up or this girl. I always knew that life can suck sometimes but it can also be really awesome in the future.

I survived, I grew stronger from it. My high school years were awesome. And I still see this girl around town sometimes and we stop and chit chat. No hard feelings, no weapons. Kids are MEAN. Get over it!!!!

    Another Columbine smh

  • JohnQknowitall

    Athena I couldn’t agree more.

I live in a city that possibly spends more on education than any other jurisdiction per capita in this country. Is the education excellent? No. Do the parents really care? No. Why then? Metal detectors and security and the kids still are not safe.

The answer? Hell if I know, but metal detectors are not it.

    Sociopath School Shooter Salad:

First you take deviant teenagers with hormonal imbalances and an inflated sense of self importance that borders on narcissism.

Toss in their desperate need to seek out attention whether it be positive or negative, a warped sense of unjustified entitlement in a world that refuses to go along for the ride.

Mix with a pathetic built in excuse from their upbringing (sexual abuse, bullying, lack of affection, poverty…whatever).

Sprinkle example (Columbine) after example (Virginia Tech) after example (University of Texas) after example (Westside Middle School) of those that have paved the deranged way for these impulsive little sociopaths.

The little bastards probably beat off to pictures of Dylan Klebold dressed in black with a pool of blood surrounding his ugly head while Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy” plays over and over ad infinitum.

The focus of the media and all of her sycophantic followers (of which group I freely admit belonging to) is on the sensational and shocking thrill killing of the day week month etc.  The antihero perpetrators of these terrible deeds are made immediately infamous.

Remember that need for attention I pointed out above?  Infamy is attention.  There is a gratifying payoff in the form of the surrounding hoopla and intense, (albeit temporary)  microscopic scrutiny to which we subject these doomed children of a lost generation to after they commit these senseless crimes, and it is apparently a sufficient trade off for their lives.

The bright light is focused on these losers in an effort to answer the unanswerable question (WHAT COULD WE HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS?)

Sad that in this day and age, 15 minutes of infamy is more then enough to provide these former nobodies all the evidence they need to believe that they have made their mark and will go down in history.

Apparently no one these days sees the forest through the trees.  The outlook for mankind as a whole is not the brightest in my opinion.

Is anyone else sick to death of this shit?  There is no end in sight.  Its really all a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy if you ask me.  Kind of a psycho salad.

    Mad World.

Remember when if you didn’t like school, you just didn’t go? I’d just go surfing instead and suck it up in summer school. Waves suck around here in the summer anyways.

  • LeaveMeBe

A second victim, Russell King Jr. (17) has died this morning. He was declared legally brain dead and I am assuming his family took him off life support. This article has numerous pictures of the shooter and the victims.

  • Deety

    Or you kill yourself.

  • Deety

    Highly doubtful.

  • Deety

I would have to add not getting fat to the list of revenges. I still run into the ‘pretty’ (but not so nice) girls from HS sometimes, and they are invariably fat, single, and have several kids in tow. When I tell them how good it is to see them, I really mean it. ;-)

  • Deety

As a teenager, I would have taken them as a challenge.

  • Deety

Those who bullied me the worst were the ones with truly horrible home lives. I didn’t find out until later though, when they apologized.

  • JohnQknowitall

    I don’t understand your comment.

  • malq

Cheer up, the world is a beautiful place.

  • malq

Either way, it probably doesn’t make a difference.

  • JGo555

You are so right. That one and not aging, especially compared to them.

Them HS bitches look like hags & like they’re in their 40′s. I look like I’m 14 (face wise) the kids made my body look my age, 29.

To my friends and family it would have, but that’s all.

  • Deety

“So, you think these will stop me from bringing heavy metal objects to school? Hah!” I would have at least brought a knife to school, just to prove I could.

  • JohnQknowitall

    Gotcha! Thanks.  :)
