Pair Arrested For Trying To Conceal Child’s Fatal Beating Death By Staging Hit And Run

Stover, MO – Thomas Presley and his unidentified girlfriend are both in police custody after police say they attempted to conceal the beating death of the woman’s toddler by staging a hit and run accident.

Presley apparently told authorities he had stopped his vehicle along Highway 135 for a bathroom break early Thursday morning, when the toddler, identified as 3-year-old Blake Litton, darted into the road and was hit by a car. Presley claimed the car fled the scene.

Blake’s death was initially reported as a hit and run, but after further investigation, authorities essentially called bullsh*it on the man’s story. No skid marks were discovered at the scene, police say, and Blake’s injuries, which included violent trauma to the head and torso area, weren’t consistent with a car accident.

“We have determined the child was assaulted at a home in Stover, resulting in his death,” said Morgan County Sheriff Jim Petty.

Sheriff Petty also has reason to believe Presley told the child’s mother what really happened to her little boy, and she was fully aware of the staged hit and run, but played along “to keep him out of jail.”

Presley, 21, is being held at the Morgan County Jail pending formal charges of second-degree murder. And mom? Well, in addition to the charges she will likely face in the death of her son, she will also be charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the physical condition of her 2-year-old daughter.

Update: Blake’s mother, 25-year-old Jamie Litton, was charged today with second-degree murder and an additional count of endangering the welfare of a child. Police believe Presley beat the child to death after the kid crapped his pants. The good news is, dude didn’t go so far as to actually run the kid over to strengthen his story.

My kids are about to turn 3 & 2.

My boy likes to fall A LOT & hit his head. Yesterday he misscalculate while climbing a storage bench in front of the bay window & pushed his head into it. I told the doctor that he lands on his head way too much. His head isn’t too big for his body (although he needs a haircut, so it might LOOK that is it).

The doctor said that it’s normal, he’ll grow out of it.

I don’t believe him. I’m gonna buy him a football helmet.

So, I know this is not my most popular hypothesis, but I feel compelled to raise it once again.

I’ve been reading this site and true crime news in general for years, now, and I can’t help but feel that relationships where the woman is with a younger man represent a disproportionately high percentage of child abuse/infanticide cases, suggesting there may be a correlation between women dating down in age and dysfunction. I wonder, assuming it’s true, if this is social or biological. Probably a bit of both. I’d like to see research into the subject. Yes, if I could be anything, I’d be an independently wealthy statistician who could commission research on a whim.

…and before anyone gets butt hurt, I am not saying that women who date down in age will stand idly by while their man abuses their child, nor am I saying men who date older women will abuse their children. I’m just saying that these couples are generally abnormal and appear to suffer from a higher rate of this kind of thing.

I HATED stats, with a PASSION. I’m a math major, but stats…not part of it, I’m on the Calc/Linear side. Stats is icky, to say the least.

I don’t think there’s a direct correlation between the two that you could accurately describe off of articles on Crime websites. I think that study would be biased and inaccurate because the pool your dipping into is a tainted, tunnel visioned sample, and not reflective of the total population.

If you could be anything……Athena! You live right up by UW! They have a big Math Major platform, Stats being one of their MS, and I think even PhD! Statisticians can make a nice decent chunk of change! Just remember if you ever do decide to be your “independently wealthy stastitican who could commission research on a whim” you’ll need at least a 3.0. A 2.99 GPA in any class == failing.

I would describe what you are seeing more as a “perfect storm” of correlations. Child abuse or maltreatment is statistically more likely to be at the hands of a perpetrator of lower education and/or younger (20-29 years old). Girls are slightly more likely to be victimized and males are more likely to mistreat females. The child abuse or maltreatment is more likely if the victim is in a lower socioeconomic situation.

So… a divorce puts a financial strain on the participants – with the woman typically bearing the brunt of it. The woman as a primary caregiver to the children of a divorce in an economically strained situation would be emotionally strained as well. If she has kids, she is statistically likely to be older than her childless counterparts. In comes a male. If the male falls into the younger/uneducated category, you have the case of a statistically likely situation meeting a statistically likely perpetrator. This would naturally lead to a situation that is statistically likely to suck.

I will never understand a mother allowing a boyfriend to harm her child, let alone lying for him to keep him out of jail. I am a single mom and if a man I ever dated harmed my child I would be tempted to run him over with a car, not keep his abusive a$$ out of jail.
