Man “Mad At Wendy’s” Smashes Restaurant Windows With Sledgehammer

Cuyahoga Falls, OH — A 45-year-old man apparently suffered some sort of brain break after eating at a Wendy’s fast food restaurant earlier this week, and began smashing the eatery’s windows with a sledgehammer.
According to police, Andrew Meiser had just finished eating his meal Monday evening, when he walked across the street and purchased a six-pound sledgehammer at Home Depot. He then returned to the restaurant and got busy, shattering four exterior windows and causing nearly $4,000 in damage.
As luck would have it, an off-duty officer just happened to be at the drive-thru that evening, and was able to diffuse the situation quickly and quietly.
Officer Mike Fleming managed to wrestle the sledgehammer away from Meiser and hold him until police arrived.
“I identified myself when I put my hands on him,” Fleming said. “I said, ‘I’m a police officer, okay, Andy… my name is Mike, I’m a police officer, I don’t want to hurt ya.’”
Fleming said he asked Meiser why he did it.
“He just said that Wendy’s is making him mad. He didn’t tell me why Wendy’s is making him mad,” Fleming said.
If one had to speculate, though, one might assume that Wendy’s was pissing him off because their food sucks. Really bad.
Meiser reportedly told deputies he didn’t mean to harm anyone, he just wanted someone to notice him. Mission: Accomplished.
Meiser was treated for cuts on his hand before being transferred to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation. Once released back into police custody, he will likely be charged with inducing panic and vandalism.
