FBI Chainsaws Wrong Door During Morning Drug Raid

February 4, 2012 at 12:12 pm by

Fitchburg, MA – A Massachusetts woman experienced the business end of an FBI chainsaw when she made the mistake of renting an apartment in the same building and floor as a suspected drug dealer.

Fitchburg – long considered the Medellín of the Northeast – was the scene of a massive citywide drug and weapons gang raid last Thursday. At 6AM, just before Judy Sanchez’ alarm was set to go off, she heard a pounding outside her second floor apartment.  This prompted her to get out of bed to investigate.

“I just happened to glance over and saw this huge chainsaw ripping down the side of my [apartment] door,” Sanchez explained. “And I was freaking out. I didn’t know what was going on.”

As soon as the chainsaw had cut through most of her door, a member of the FBI arrest team kicked it in.

“That’s when I heard the clicking of a gun and I heard ‘FBI, get down!’, so I laid right on down.”

The FBI reportedly told the woman to get control of her three-month-old pit bull puppy, which she did. The woman then described the frightened puppy peeing itself – presumably because the puppy was aware of the increased latitude that has been granted to federal law enforcement agencies in recent years. The woman added she spent the next 35 minutes laying in contact with the dog’s urine while her toddler daughter ‘screamed’ for her from the next room.

After a period of time, the agents realized that the intended subject of their 2 year-long investigation lived in apartment 2F. Sanchez, her daughter, and their constitutionally-aware puppy live in apartment 2R. Oopsie.

“The looks on their faces when they knew they got the wrong door was priceless,” Sanchez said. “They looked at each other dumbfounded.”

You will be pleased to know that the FBI arrest team did get their suspect. …and, according to reports, they didn’t even damage his door…

I am not a sue happy person, and have never sued anyone, but I would in this case. Or at least try. Her toddler in the other room crying for her for 30 minutes while she lay in her dogs urine hoping they don’t shoot the dog? I would be beyond accepting apologies for a mistake.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

If I were Sanchez, I’d be hiring a lawyer.  There is NO excuse for this kind of error.

R.I.P. hope the poor door didn’t die in vain.

Glad to know they didn’t compound it by shooting her puppy as well.

Wow, really? I would expect them to check the apartment before they do something big, like, chainsaw their way into someone’s apartment and making everyone pee in their pants before they end up finding out that they’ve busted the wrong unit.

If this ‘subject’ is studied for 2 years, shouldn’t they at least get the address correct the first time round?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QMCY5SBUKYEK5NRTKAG7MDF4BA Steve

Damn…. if it were me I’d force the FBI into a public apology & make them repair all the damage they caused from them NOT paying attention.  I’m surprised their intended suspect didn’t use the commotion to make his escape….

I cant believe it took 30 mins if my baby was crying for me that long i would be pissed as hell wow and in 30 mins the idiot across the hall was prob laughing his ass off, i mean didnt they know what he looked like?

  • Hayz

The FBI is the the governments way of flexing it’s muscles. This incident is just more proof of what used to be a great asset to our country having gone down the toilet. If I were in her shoes I’d do everything within my power to sue the pants off them. They threatened to shoot her dog, and tramatized her child and probably her. There is no excuse for that and knowing how the government works she won’t get an apology or at the very least a new door from the morons.

  • Anonymous

Whoa. That is crazy! They owe her a new door, and a boatload of money for her suffering!

Pee on the floor? A new door? They don’t sound traumatized and they weren’t physically hurt.

What would be the legal bases for damages?

  • Anonymous

What suffering? If there is any, does it rise to the legal standard for damages?

  • Anonymous

Uh yea. I would think so. She, her child and her dog will probably be scared for life from this! Oh yea, I’d be makin some phone calls if I was this lady!

  • Anonymous

Maybe someone should wake your dumb ass up by sawing through your door, terrorizing your baby in the process. If it wasn’t the shit ass cops it would be legal basis for shooting the intruder in some states.

I wonder if they staked out 2R for the 2 year period as well. That they would never admit too…

I would at least hope they paid for the door at least. I would be fucking pissed in all honesty. the FBI would be arresting 2 people: Me and the drug dealer.

  • Anonymous

Wow I can tell you were educated at Stanford University’s Law School.

  • Anonymous

Are you implying that if a random civilian sawed through your door with a chainsaw that there is no state where it would be legal to shoot them to death? I don’t need law school to know that you could probably get away with it in most of the US. It’s straight out of a horror flick for gods sake. I don’t even know why i’m dignifying your asinine comment with a response.

  • Anonymous

Wow, I can tell that higher education didn’t stop you from seizing the opportunity to be a moron. Smiley face

You’re either a troll or a complete fucking moron. I choose troll because if you’re serious then the depths of your stupidity are beyond comprehension. There is NO way any sane, intelligent person could think that this is OK. Shitbird

If this happened to you there would no problem, right? Hell, why not thank the FBI for doing such a good job? Complete incompetence if not criminal negligence.

  • katie lacko

HA! Too funny! A big oopsie. Ah well. Accidents happen

  • Anonymous

Higher education taught me that the difference between what “I want” and “what is” makes a difference in many things. The legal codes are one of those things.

I am not saying that it isn’t possible to sue, I just don’t know if the law will allow them to prevail.

Rather than gushing you might want to check what the law is and see if it matches what you think is the correct outcome – according to you.

  • Anonymous

Moron?  Did I say that what happened is “OK?”

I said that I am not sure that in a court of law that she has a case – regardless – of what I think the outcome should be.

  • Anonymous

Please pardon the personal attacks. I get a little passionate about stuff like this. Laziness and taking care of babies prevents me from researching legal precedents in the matter. Just shooting off my mouth from the gut, I guess. Personally I don’t feel it’s right to do that to actual drug dealers either. A position that will probably be unsavory on here. Especially to the Texans.

  • Anonymous

Absolutely. Bare minimum: this woman will have a case of post-traumatic stress syndrome that will need to be treated. The FBI (and the U.S. taxpayer) must cover this treatment. If she plays up the horror (and hell, I would if I were her) it will rise to the standard of damages. And seriously, if we want the idiots in LE (granted not all LE is composed of idiots, but there are still many to be found) to ever improve in their raid tactics, a fat lawsuit is what it takes. This could happen to ANYONE who lives in an apartment building.

  • Anonymous

No joke. I thought he would have strolled out, too. The FBI will probably take care of everything (all building damage) but not sure about the apology. We can hope, though.

  • Josh

It is not frivolous enough to have a case in court. =)

  • Grumpy_Bear

If spilling hot coffee on your lap “rises to the standard for damages”, then I think this surpasses it.

  • Anonymous

That child is going to have nightmares for years and why? Because someone cant fucking read ? I’m surprised they didn’t shot the child mistaking her for a drug lord. I hope the Mom sues!

  • Anonymous

The child was left screaming for it’s mother and why? Because they made a mistake! Yes one can sue for psychological damage, and violation of civil rights.

  • Anonymous

Let’s lay you in pee for half an hour and you tell me it isn’t traumatizing.

Then add in the fact she was held under a gun while her CHILD SCREAMED FOR HER FROM ANOTHER ROOM. I’m sure her child was probably restrained in some manner.

  • Anonymous

I would totally like to say that I hope the FBI pays every bill she sends them because of this “incident”:

    – CARPET CLEANING/HOUSE CLEANING
    – ONE DAY’S WORTH OF DAYCARE
-ONE DAY’S WORTH OF HER JOB’s WARES
    – AN OBEDIENCE TRAINING CLASS FOR HER 3 MONTH OLD PITBULL (that behaved quite good considering it could’ve gotten a gun & killed them all)
    – A NICE CARD WITH “I’M SORRY” WRITTEN FROM ALL OF THE RAID PERSONNEL ON HAND.
    – A BRAND NEW DOOR WITH ALL THE SHIT THEY F*CKED OVER BRAND NEW FIXED.

From the description here, it sounds as though they didn’t even announce who they were before sawing through the door. Just think how tragic this could have turned out…if some stranger started chainsawing through our door, with no announcement that it was the FBI, my husband would have started shooting…and if he was working overnight as he does sometimes, I would have done that, to defend my child. If she had been in possession of a gun and done the same thing (rightfully so), this could have turned out really deadly…all because they got all Rambo instead of following protocal and announcing themselves. And who the hell uses a damn chainsaw? I thought they had tools for busting in that were faster, at least from the live scenes I’ve seen on the news. When they did this, it put her life at risk, and her toddler’s life at risk, because if she had followed the law and used her right to defend her home, they could have both been killed in a hail of bullets, not to mention that she could’ve taken out an officer or two in the process. Yes, a lawsuit is in order…and these officers should all be suspended.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, but there was more to that story too..the cashier carelessly handed it to her, and dropped it in her lap…her  pantyhose were burned to her leg, and it required a bunch of skin grafts. All she asked for initially was mcdonalds to pay her medical bills, and they refused. I’m glad she won that.

  • Anonymous

To an extent, I agree with what you’re saying…but she DEFINITELY has a case. I wouldn’t agree to some suecrazy amount, like millions of dollars, but if the FBI wants to do the right thing, they will offer compensation BEFORE she has to go to court and make a stink…plus, it will look better for the FBI if they try to make amends. Definitely a new door, carpet cleaning, whatever else was damaged, an official public apology, offer to pay for therapy for a certain amount of time, a small, fair amount of money for psychological trauma, and some sort of consequences for the officers involved. What they did was reckless and negligent, because if she had done what she had a right to do, and grabbed a gun to shoot whoever was chainsawing through the door (especially since they did not first even announce who they were), she and her toddler could’ve been killed in a hail of bullets, as well as some officers. Some punishment and monetary payment are in order, and only fair. The psychological damage of hearing your child cry, not knowing what’s happening, is your child hurt, and you can’t get to them, and the child not knowing who these people are and where her mommy is, for 1/2 an hour, my god, I can’t imagine how awful that was.

How about breaking and entering or a terrorist act with out legal authority. This is what the shredding of the constitution has gotten us. The FBI is one of the most dangerous organizations next to the ATF in the US.

  • Anonymous

I agree. Due process  of law is being violated daily and is going to get worse.

  • Anonymous

It would probably fall under violation of civil rights. I feel sure she was quickly and quietly compensated for damages. Being an armed civilian I would have most likely put about 40 rounds of .223  through the door out of sheer terror.  Now what?

Again: I am not a lawyer and do not know what the law prescribes, if anything, in circumstances such as this one.

It is not a matter of whether I agree or disagree that she deserves remedy. Also, if it turns out there are prescribed damages which may be obtained, will the award warrant the costs and time of litigation.

Our legal system works for the wealth, corporations and many government entities. Rarely does it work for those not in the previously mentioned categories. Costs are the issues and wealth pays for these costs.

As I read this story, I kept thinking that if this was me, I would have been shot and killed in my own home over a mistaken address. I don’t wake up very well at the best of times, and coherent and cognizant aren’t high on my list of abilities first thing in the morning. I would have had my shotgun in hand as I went to see what was happening and would have shot first and asked questions later. And in return, I would have been shot myself. *smh*

They seem to deal with everybody in the same manner. They are not there to help you or protect you.  Upward career mobility is their driving force and you are the fuel. The DEA are worse and the ATF is beyond description. The only thing worse than all three put together is a municipal or state court judge.  The devil incarnate is a jury of Jesus loving peers who are going to judge you on their ability to think things through. The only answer to all of the above is suicide by cop. If there is no cop available you can always compound your troubles by hiring a lawyer. If you don’t agree with me just remember we have a lawyer running the country.
