Woman Uses Shotgun To Kill Suspect In Home InvasionBLANCHARD, Oklahoma – A young mother in Oklahoma killed a man trying to break into her home by giving him a new hole with the aid of a shotgun.

For 20 minutes, 18-year-old Sarah McKinley says she was alone with her 3-month-old baby while two men repeatedly attempted to get inside her home.

“He was from door to door trying to bust in,” said McKinley. “I don’t know what he had in his hand besides the knife. I believe he actually had a hammer in his hand at some point because he was hitting that back door with it.”

In an attempt to stop them from coming inside, she had armed herself with a shotgun, pushed a couch against the back door and called 911 who told her she could use the shotgun if the men entered the house. When 24-year old Justin Shane Martin got the back door open and made his way in the home armed with a knife, that’s exactly what McKinley did, killing Martin with a shot to the upper torso.

His accomplice, 29-year old Dustin Louis Stewart, fled the scene and called his parents who turned him over to police.

If you read through the comments attached to the article I linked to, you’ll see a mix of people congratulating Sarah as well as friends of Justin saying this woman had no right to shoot him as he entered her home armed with a knife.

But what I found more interesting is the indication that these two men had been terrorizing this woman in the weeks leading up to this incident, and may have even poisoned her dogs. If anyone knows the dirt, please indulge.

whoa! wait, she was being terrorized, had a baby in the home while there were armed men trying to get in and there are STILL people telling her she was wrong?!

The family and friends of the kid are defending him? He broke into someones home with a weapon. This girl protected herself and her baby and home. I’m sorry, but if someone breaks into my home their ass will be shot. That is if they make it past the dog lol.

  • NY_Mommy

I can’t even imagine (probably because I live in a city) but I can’t imagine being on the phone with 911 for that long and the police still haven’t shown up. Crazy. She did what she had to do. Good for her.

  • Anonymous

No right to shoot him? I’m pretty sure they weren’t breaking in to have a tea party. I hope LE will see it differently- but unfortunately sometimes ya never know. Kudos to Sarah.

Good for her. she had no choice, those punks were breaking into her home with a weapon. They meant to harm iam sure. She had a home and baby to protect, kudos to her, fuck them.

That was the first thing I thought when I read it…20 minutes they were trying to get into the house. And no cops….

Thing is as well though, the people that are defending these scum of the earth haven’t thought about that 20 minutes. They had 20 minutes to come to their senses (if they ever had any) and get out of there. They chose to stay, they chose to go there in the first place, and they chose to go armed. Put all those choices together and you get the outcome you get. One dead, foolish home invader

Oklahoma has one of the best Castle Law doctrines- it’s a pretty pro-gun state. So this poor girl won’t have any problems in that regard. I went to the link and read the comments; it will be interesting to see what pops up new in the case. Regardless, though, break into a house in OK and be prepared to come back out feet first!

  • Arthur Ball

Anyone who is saying she was wrong for defending herself, her property and most of all, her own child need to be shot themselves!

  • Anonymous

I think this girl lives in a remote area, maybe why it took the cops so long.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

I don’t care who the father of her baby is or how old her late husband was–someone who breaks into another person’s home with a huge-ass hunting knife in his hand is not there to sell Girl Scout cookies.  She was well within her rights to defend her home.

And by the way, since she breeds dogs, she probably lives well outside the city limits to give the dogs room to play outside and to avoid violating city ordinances that limit the number of animals one can have on one’s property.  Living outside city limits definitely increases the amount of time it takes to get LE to a residence.

That being said, if he really was stalking her, I’m glad she shot and killed him.  An arrest and jail time wouldn’t deter a determined stalker, especially an armed one with an accomplice in tow.

Shotguns make a perfect home protection tool, just recently took my 19 year old and her 23 year old sister and wife shooting to practice with pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

Seems 911 told her it was cool to start blowing those dudes away when they actually entered the home. Technically, she could have started ‘legally’ blowing them away when they were breaking down her door. If the boy’s family has any issues with what went down, they should drop it in the cop’s complaint box at the station. I bet the 911 call is interesting to hear, imagine it will be available soon.

I feel mildly bad for the asshat that tries to break into my home… I sleep with a .357 magnum on my nightstand, and I’ll be damned if anyone ever makes me a victim in my own home.  Kudos to this girl, but unfortunately she’ll always have to live with knowing that she put someone in the ground, even if it was in order to save her own life.

Can’t imagine the terror she had felt.
The dead guy’s friends might feel obliged to defend him, but saying that the woman had no right to shoot is plain dumb. Guy had no right entering someone else’s house and cause unnecessary terror to the occupants. It’s a good thing that she managed to ‘donut’ this intruder and scare off the other. This is totally justified. When you enter someone else’s home armed, please be prepared to be shot at.

My heart goes out to his friends and family who have clearly lost someone dear to them, but in the end, he made a very poor decision and sadly it’s the last poor decision he’ll ever make.  People may deserve second chances, but sometimes you just don’t get one–it’s a fact of life–and that’s why you’re supposed to do your best to get it right the first time.

This girl has showed immense bravery in the face of danger and protected her own as was her right. I would have done the exact same thing to protect me and my child.

  • Anonymous

They may not have meant to do actual physical harm. If they were terrorizing her for weeks they were probably engaged in a sort of gangstalking where they’re basically just trying to drive her nuts – not to sound like the resident paranoid lunatic but that shit happens. Either way the morons got what was coming to them, or at least one of them did. Too bad the other didn’t walk in after his friend took a torso shot and get his head blow to bits. If I had won the lottery (I bought one of my 3 or 4 yearly tickets for New Years and lost ~sob~) I feel so strongly about this I’d give this girl like $10K.

  • Anonymous

I find it sort of amusing/cute that “911 told her it was OK” to shoot the guys, suggesting she was nice enough to ask. If I was alone in my house with a kid and two armed guys were breaking in, I don’t think I’d really care if it was OK or not.

Is there a face book fund for her?  She lost her husband on christmas day.  Somebody kills her breeding dogs.  Invades her home and she is forced to defend herself.

This gal has been through a lot.  I shed a few tears for her ordeal.

  • taaurrus taaurrus

I don’t think she did anything wrong – I would do the exact same thing. If you don’t want to die – then don’t go breaking into homes. I guess they thought once they killed her dogs then it would be easy to break in and rob her – or worse. Guess they didn’t take into consideration that she might just have a gun. Their bad. I feel sorry for her as the article said her husband had just died on Christmas (it didn’t say what he died from) and she must have been scared out of her mind for her baby & herself. If she hadn’t had that gun – she would probably be dead right now because if they only wanted to rob her – they would have picked a time when she wasn’t home. I do have to say however, that although she didn’t deserve to lose her husband, dogs or have to end up killing somebody – maybe she should rethink her choice of income – because I usually don’t have much sympathy for those who pay their bills by adding to the pet population. The article said she made her money by breeding hr two (now dead) dogs. How many damn times has she breed that poor dog if that was her only source of income? Go out and get a real job. Seriously.  - and before I get bashed – go back to the beginning of my comment – I DID say I felt sorry for her and she did the right thing. I just DO NOT AGREE with her (lazy ass) choice of income. How is she going to pay her bills now that her meal-tickets are dead?

  • Anonymous

who cares about her damn income, could be worse, could be sitting on her ass collecting welfare not doing a damn thing for herself. instead she found a way to live in many senses. give the poor girl a break, her income isnt the reason for the article, i love how people talk shit on the internet, it has nothing to do with the story, stfu, just sayin :) ty and have a nice day and hope ur not ever in her shoes

  • Perp Walk Fan

Don’t ever doubt she did the right thing.  I attended an in-service class on sex crimes.  A young woman with a baby called 911 saying a man (a neighbor who had just broken up with his wife)  was beating down her door.  She had a gun but the operator (female) told her not to use it.  Once the man broke inside her home he grabbed her and raped her while she screamed the whole time.  The call was recorded until the police came in and pulled him off the woman.  Hearing that tape was heartbreaking for all of us, and it seemed to last forever.  If only she had shot him.

  • Athena

I concur.  Do it.  But get trained.  And get children educated.  A gun in home without training and education is a very dangerous thing.

  • Athena

Wow.  A 911 operator told her not to use it?  Amazingly negligent.  I would have filed suit, if I were her.  Well, no, I would have disregarded that advice if I were her.  But given the result, she should have filed suit.

  • Anonymous

I can’t see how this woman did anything wrong.  The guy had a knife that we know of for sure, and probably a hammer.  He wasn’t just stopping by to pay his condolences.  Two guys trying to bust in on a young woman alone with a tiny baby…. no matter if there was a history or not, she had every right to protect her son and herself.

I really hope that things get better for her. Hopefully, someone will do what was suggested and start a fund for her and the baby.

My dad always told me that, when some guy is trying to crawl in a window or bust in your house, just shoot first and ask questions later, but make sure you drag him inside the house if he falls OUT of the window instead of IN.  I would give it my best shot, to be sure, both with the gun and with dragging him inside.

The bottom line here is that, no matter if she knew the guys or not, or if there was a history or not, there is no reason two guys should be trying to bust into the home of a woman alone with a small baby.  Spur of the moment?  I think not.  If they didn’t know her, they probably read of her husband’s death in the obits and that’s how they picked their victim.  It should have been easy taking her.  Kudos to her for proving them wrong.

As for friends of these prize winners showing up to defend a tard, just be glad it was your buddy and not your ass she blew away.  Good job, Sarah!

When a guy I went to school with killed a little girl while driving drunk (he had a previous DUI, too), all kinds of people were defending him. They ganged up and attacked anyone that called him a monster for killing a 9 year old girl (she died in her father’s arms after he hit them head on). Trash will always protect it’s own.

  • Anonymous

Coyote, they were pulled by the time I got off work yesterday and read the original article then the followup with the losers name that called his parents to come get him. Kudos for them in turning him in and I’m just disappointed that she didn’t nail him also as he was part of a terrorization and whatever else they had planned. The dogs thing would have been enough for me, and trust me, she’s getting allot of support. It’s not uncommon in rural areas for it to take that long for the law to get out. Your best bet is to arm yourself and call your neighbors while your calling them.

I don’t necessarily trust the 911 operators Athena I have watched too many shows ,where they gave the person the worst advice you could give. Some of these people ended up in  a worse position then if they would have never called 911.Cases where there is a shooter who found the victim because the 911 operator insisted person stay on the phone chatting with them and giving details every 5 seconds on location of shooter. The shooter then hears victim and then shoots victim.Fuck that, I would call then hang up.

  • BooBooKittyFuck

I found this comment on another site…a whole lot of weird…

Brian Roberts at 3:57 PM January 02, 2012
The trailer was supposed to be vacant since the 60 yr old man died. The landowner (Justin’s Boss) had no clue the old man was married. Or that there was somebody else living there with him. So Justin was on his boss’s land breaking into his boss’s trailer that was supposed to be vacant to check it out and make sure everything was off. And was shot and killed by a 18 yr girl that in the 21 minutes that it took him to get in NEVER said a word or warning to the man that had every right to be there. Then to top it off the Blanchard police and Media don’t bother to get the story straight or do a proper investigation before they smear the nation with false information.

  • BooBooKittyFuck

Okay, this comment is actually on A LOT of sites….along with that one about she needs to find a new source of income and hating people who add to the pet population…wow douchetards were really making the rounds on this one…

  • BooBooKittyFuck

After reading a bunch of comments on a bunch of sites, even Pro-Justin bullshit….I’m starting to wonder if maybe the property owner/landlord dude wasn’t trying to to intimidate this girl out of the place or something. Dogs suspiciously die and then these dudes that supposedly work for the property owner show up after he tells them no one’s supposed to be living there? How does the owner not know this chick’s living there when according to some reports she’s lived there for 2 years…and there’s also a baby there. Babies are loud annoying little things that like to cry…no one ever heard this baby cry once, at all, ever before this happened? I think the owner has some explaining to do….

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Heather-Battles-Shaffer/1045242569 Heather Battles Shaffer

it may not be the owner. Her husband  was 50 something and died of cancer on Christmas. She is like 18. Maybe, he had other kids that didn’t like her and wanted her gone or some business partner. It’s not a coincidence for sure the dogs being killed and them breaking in.

lmfao “and before I get bashed – go back to the beginning of my comment” – stop them dead in their tracks.

i agree with you wholeheartedly about backyard breeding. since the purchases of my parents, who enjoy purebred animals – i’ve wised up and realize it’s more rewarding to adopt (it really is!). and around here, there’s no fucking excuse – no red tape, no fees because the animals are FREE to adopt.

I tend to think 911 shouldn’t give any kind of advice short of instructions on how to do CPR or other critical first aid. They aren’t in the situation, they’re sitting comfortably behind a desk. I’m not going to take advice from a 911 operator on how much force I should use on a person breaking into my home. Only I can assess the situation I am in and the risk involved. And I’d probably call and just leave the line open in the situations you described here. They’re supposed to send out a vehicle anyway in that case.

  • Anonymous

shouldn’t the Sheriff be called in a situation like that?

  • Anonymous

I thankfully have no idea about the laws about evictions.  That does sound like they should have been there, but why did she wait so long to call the police?  If I’m holding my baby and I hear someone at the door, I’m blowing up 911 as fast as possible!!!!  who knows??

  • Anonymous

Only law enforcement personnel are allowed to physically force an eviction.  Usually by posting a notice to the tenant that the police will return on a certain day to enforce said eviction.  Then they show up on that day and can physically drag the tenant out.

Any non-law enforcement individuals trying to force a tenant to leave is illegal.  And it definitely isn’t legal to launch a home invasion to do it.  If that’s what these two chucklefucks were doing, Justin Martin might qualify for a Darwin Award.  I would think that whoever gave him the task could be charged as well.

  • Anonymous

Squatters usually have more rights than tenants do when it comes to evictions, as well.

  • Andrew Petrie

You are absolutely correct in my eyes.

The whole point that the defenders seem to be missing is that these guys were armed, not just knocking on the door and asking if anyone was home. If they had stayed outside long enough, an officer would have arrived and sorted the whole thing out. Instead, they chose the breaking and entering route.

  • Anonymous

Exactly! Putting myself in that situation (or trying to imagine), I doubt I’d be standing there, as a mom, thinking “Gee, I wonder if they might hurt or even kill my children too.. Well, I guess we’ll see!” Uh, no. If I get to choose between the lives of my children & me and the life of some criminal who is *actively choosing* to invade my home, my life, who could potentially rape, rob, AND kill me/my child, guess who I pick.. But seriously? In such situations, I don’t feel it really comes down to it being a decision. To me, I really believe it would feel more instinctual.

I would never worship a god who would send me to hell for protecting myself and my child. What was she supposed to do? Just let a man with a knife enter her home and possibly kill her and her kid? The guy got what he deserved. A “nice young man” wouldn’t break into a home armed with a knife.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2C6C7R6YSKNX3UGNOHPYL6SIWA Jonny K

For those who say it’s squatters, and the men sent them there, tell me, why was the electricity running, the water running….if the home was abandoned?  The woman clearly still lived there, she wasn’t packing to move out.  Her animals were in clear view and detained, she has some of her affairs outside….do you really REALLY think it’s squatters they were after?  Give me a break.   Those guys were trying to break in, the woman felt threatened, she did what she had to do.   Those people who are sympathizing with the intruder need to just get their heads out of their asses.  That woman has been through enough as it is.  Kudos to her.   Besides, if he felt that if there were squatters, after seeing/hearing dogs and whatnot, why didn’t he just leave instead of trying to break into the place?  Those people are just trying to make him sound like he was the good guy.  The other man would have been released by now if that were the case.

  • Anonymous

I also would never worship a god who would send me to hell for any reason. He has already sent me to be among those of his image and likeness and that is hell enough. What he actually deserved was to get his balls shot off and have to work the rest of his life in a strip club.

CNN is reporting that the other suspect was arraigned in court today. He allegedly told LE that he and his buddy got high on hydrocodone then decided to try to get into the woman’s trailer because they figured there was still some painkillers there leftover from when her husband died. The woman also acknowledged that the guy that was killed did know her and knew that her husband had just died. Also, the second suspect (that ran away) is being charged with murder because in Oklahoma the states they can charge the accomplice in the commission of a felony with murder whether the victim OR another suspect is killed.

I will get mental help if you will work on your sense of tumor. Yes I am talking about the same God that is a figment of every god fearing persons imagination.

I am not a flippin idiot. I have never done a flip in my life. Wait! I did flip burgers one summer so I guess you are right. You have got to quit taking what people say on the idiotnet to heart. The only fault I find with her actions are why did she not get them both. Speaking of idiots he did bring a knife to a gun fight.

Apparently you have not been properly introduced to a 1 lb 4 oz hand held 5 shot sawed off shotgun revolver loaded with buck and ball.  This backed up by a 3 lb .223 pistol with a 30 round magazine.guided by a  green laser.strobe  You need to advance out of the world of muskets and flint locks…

As other people said, DO IT! And definitely, definitely get trained.  You are more dangerous to yourself as well if you have a gun in your hands that you a) don’t know how to use, or b) aren’t willing to use.  I was raised around guns, and I can’t imagine it any other way.

I read an article recently that said Dustin Stewart said that Justin wanted to break into the house so they could get pills.   They knew the husband had died of cancer and figured he had pain meds in the house.    I don’t know about previous stalking or any of that but that is what the suspect said after he was arrested so I doubt they were just doing a “house check” for the landlord.

    NY Mommy,

I live in a city too (NOLA), and I can tell you personally, I have been put on hold for 17 mins before the 911 operator even said, “911 Emergency…What the hell you want?”….And then, waited another hour and a half before the cops came knocking.
    Total wait time: 107 mins

Dude, her husband’s been dead four goddamn days, she’s taking care of a 3-month-old child, and she’s been dealing with mongrel buttmonkeys harassing her since the day her husband passed.  When has she had a single chance to find a job in the middle of Bumfuck-it-takes-the-cops-more-than-20-mins-to-get-to-her, Egypt?

Correct. Her husband had recently passed away from cancer. She and the baby were at home alone. Blanchard is a rural town, slightly bigger than ‘small’ – but still well with in the ‘everyone knows every one else’s business’ bracket. Justin Martin would have known everything about her situation. He did indeed harass her days before the break in, including on her own door step. She continually refused to let him in. The night Justin and his accomplice Dustin arrived to break in, she took the baby, put the baby in the crib with a bottle, loaded a shot gun, moved a couch in front of the door they were trying to kick in, called 911 to inform them of the situation, and that she would shoot them if they entered her home. The 911 operator told her “Do what you have to do”. So she did. When Justin Martin kicked the door in she shot his ass. The police found his corpse inside the house and slumped over the couch she had moved to barricade the door. Dustin ran away and his parents turned him in to the police.

There is an old saying from the Book of Judiciousness, chapters .223 and .45, Shoot them all, ( Burglars, prowlers, home invaders, rapists, child molesters, murderers etc..and those who stand with such filth should thus suffer the same fate.) then let God sort them out. Hallelujah.

She had every right to defend herself the way that she did, regardless if they were stalking her for weeks or not. I’m proud of her and would of done the same thing.

You do realize that this post was a joke from the beginning?

  • Eyam Ova-Urazis

Yeah. I just like talking shit about god.
