Police Search For “Backpage Killer” After Four Women Found Dead

DETROIT, MI — Police have found the dead bodies of four women this month, and police say three of them had advertised escort services on Backpage.com, a Craigslist-type site that includes ads for escort, massage and stripper services.

On December 19, the bodies of 23-year-old Renisha Landers (pictured), and her cousin, 24-year-old Demesha Hunt, were found in the trunk of Lander’s new Chrysler 300 parked in the driveway of a vacant home. Their bodies showed no outward sings of trauma and investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

Then, on Christmas Day, two black females between the ages of 28 and 29 were found in the trunk of a car that had been set on fire. They were both burned beyond recognition. Police would later identify them and reveal both had advertised escort services on Backpage.com, as did either Landers or Hunt.

Investigators are now seeking warrants to search IP addresses and cell phone numbers in connection with the deaths. Backpage.com, which has come under fire for how it polices ads for adult services, released a statement saying they are helping police with their investigation and providing them with whatever info they need from them.

“Backpage.com shares the concerns of law enforcement and the community that every effort be made to stop violent criminals from using the Internet to commit their crimes,” the company said, adding that one of the victims had at least 30 different escort ads or postings on at least 15 other websites aside from theirs.

Police have not used the term “serial killer” yet, but I have seen a headline on a lame doom and gloom website that sensationalizes and exploits tragedies referring to the suspect as the “Backpage Killer.”

The mothers of the two identified girls are already coming out with the “not my daughter” BS in regards to the escort ads. I can’t help but think that if they knew what their daughters actually did, especially the teenager, those two might still be alive. I’ll be curious to find out which one was the seller, my money is on the 19-year-old with the brand new Chrysler 300 and the older girl was unfortunate enough to be her “bodyguard” for the duration of her hookup.

Backpage.com has come under a lot of shit because a lot of these people running these ads are also trafficking sex slaves and child sex labor apparently. I live in New york, I applied to one of their “masseuse with hot bodies ad” and one of these assholes wanted me to meet them at a specific place, not telling me where their location of their workplace was.

Sadly, so many women are missing around here that when the first two were found in the Chrysler 300 many family members came to see if the girls where the ones that THEY reported missing. smh

It’s getting crazy. A 13 year old girl was just snatched off of the street last week and raped in an apartment then taken to another house and raped by two more dudes. She survived and gave a description and thankfully those scumbuckets are in jail.

Still, they don’t give them away for free. An teen with a car like that costs a buttload for insurance too. DETROIT (WXYZ) – A mother of a missing stripper fears her daughter may face the same fate as the women who were recently found murdered in car trunks.
Pamela Johnson says her daughter, Kalisha Madden, was last seen on November 28 leaving the Detroit strip club formerly known as The Sting with three men.
Although Johnson disagreed with her daughter’s choice of a lifestyle and income, she told Action News her daughter was smart and knew how to be safe since she’s been dancing for nearly 10 years.
Johnson says her daughter, who has six children of her own, would never willing leave them. “My daughter is being held against her will, or my daughter is not here anymore,” Johnson told Action News. “ That’s the only two options there is and either way. I’m going to bring her home, I’m going to find my child.”
But Johnson worries it will be the latter option that becomes a reality especially after learning about the recent deaths of four young women. They were all found in trunks of cars during the month of December. Detroit police say three of the four of the victims have escort ads on the website Backpage.com.

Police Identify 3rd Body Found In Trunk

Investigators believe their deaths could be connected to the burned bodies of two other women, also found in the trunk of a car, on Christmas just blocks away from where Lander’s vehicle was found.
Using dental records, one of the two women found on Christmas has been identified as 29-year-old Vernithea McCrary,
Investigators are still trying to positively identify the fourth woman.
Detroit Police say they have tied three of the women to websites advertising escort services.
Toxicology testing is underway to determine if drugs or some kind of poison may have caused the deaths.
