Precisely what I was thinking.  Of course, I don’t know any “strict” Muslims.  I just know the half-assed, Muslim-In-Name-Only types.  Just like the Catholics, Mormons, Lutherans and Buddists I know.  I think, if you’re going to pretend to practice a faith, you may as well make it an exotic one.

Some christian men DO in fact believe that their wives should submit to them..  I read an article on another site about disturbing books, and one of them was written by a group of good christian people who believed wives should be diciplined like children when they disobey their husbands (spanked primarily).. Many men (and women) have been convicted of murdering their children using the excuse that it was sactioned by God..  I wrote a disclaimer before I posted my version of events to ensure that people understood that it is just a story that fits the details made available in this article..  On a side note,  I’m not a fan of Islam.. Never will be, and no amount of PC bullying is going to change my mind about that.. If you feel it necessary to pin the badge of “Bigot” on me, then I will graciously accept it,  smile, and pat you on the head knowing I earned it by refusing to let someone else impose their brainwashed morality on me..  Oh, you can say the same for Christians huh? Go ahead ..  I’ll wear that badge too..  Kisses..  

My issue is that when a man who is Christian (and white) does something similar, people don’t tend to blame it on his religion. But whenever a Muslim man does it, people are quick to make baseless speculations that it was his religion that caused it.

Honestly, I think white Christians (especially men) like trashing Islam’s treatment of women to make themselves feel better about how women in their own communities are treated. Women haven’t had the right to vote for a century in most of this country yet- in fact, less than a hundred years ago a quarter of the Senate voted to deny women in America the right to vote. The western world may be ahead of the Islamic world in their treatment of women, but not by that much, and mostly by accident. Back when the Koran was written, it was more liberal towards women than the western world was, but you wouldn’t know that, because you’ve only bothered to educate yourself on the smallest and most viscous corner of that religion.

Your version of events does not actually fit the details available in this article, it just fits the details that you assume to be true of all Muslim men (they like to keep their women downtrodden). You make this assumption because it’s easy to make baseless assumptions about people who don’t look like you, talk like you, or pray like you, so that you can feel superior in comparison. Which is exactly what you do. That’s what makes you a bigot, not some ideal of ‘political correctness’.

This is the last thing I’ll say on the matter..  You’ve taken a television detective show scenerio comment, and blown it way out of proportion..  It was never intended to be taken seriously, or as unquestionable truth.. I don’t base my opinion on Islam’s treatment of women on anything a “white christian man” has taught me.. I base it on my own observation, and opinions.. It’s true that at one time women in the United States of America were not allowed to vote (and I’m only using this as an example because it’s the one you used), but perhaps you could inform me of any public stonings that took place during the Women’s Suffrage Movement? None? Really.. Hmm..   Surely women are forced to walk the streets covered head to toe under threat of prosecution on mainstreet america.. They’re NOT? ..  Huh..  

I don’t have any problem with people practicing the religion of their choice.. I have a problem with not being able to disagree with other people’s ideologies without being labeled a bigot.. Hey, you’re free to speak your mind in this country as long as you agree with everyone else.. right? ..  How about this,  if you find the idea that at any time your husband (according to the traditions of his faith, and his culture .. and there are NUMEROUS examples of this taking place, even today) could beat you to death with the blessing of his family and his government, you go right on ahead and jump on it..  Me? I think I’ll pass..  I don’t have hate for the Islamic community, but I will admit to a lack of trust..

Like you I did not think that Muslims celebrated Christmas. I know very little about the Muslim faith but I believed Christmas to be a strictly Christian holiday. Kinda confusing,anybody know or have any facts on that?
