Woman Jailed After Biting Daughter’s Face As Punishment

Brownsville, TX — Claudia Elizabeth Avila, 27, was arrested on child abuse charges Tuesday after police say she bit her 10-year-old daughter’s face and finger to punish her.

Police responded to the woman’s home after an unidentified party reported the alleged abuse to Child Protective Services.

When questioned, Avila reportedly told police she bit the child’s cheek and finger last week, leaving behind bruises and bite marks, because she was trying to discipline the kid.

Seriously, this site is just brimming with helpful parenting tips! Now I know what to do if my spawn’s grades slip again.

Avila was booked on a charge of injury to a child and later released on $5,000 bail.

The only time I have ever heard of biting a child for discipline is as toddlers when they start to bite you bite them (not a method I have used or advocate)

Don’t spread the method more by mentioning it at all. Babies bite as soon as they start getting teeth. They do it because it feels good to them (even if they’re not mad) & to see the reaction it causes. Once toddlers do it, it’s different.

You have to pull them appart & explain them that it hurts other people, that it would hurt them if someone else do it. Have them apologize to the bitten person & to USE THEIR WORDS.

All of this is done with language that’s simple & help them by saying words for them like: “you were mad because ____. I UNDERSTAND, but biting hurts. It makes owies and they cry…”

I’m betting this isn’t the first time she bit her child as a form of “discipline”, only the first time she bit her when she was out of control and left marks in places people could see. Meh.. once I bit my brother, so he pulled my hair… My mom bit me and pulled my brothers hair… never bit my brother again…..lol. We were probably 4 or 5…. I still remember it. Gives me quite the chuckle these days. Kids are stupid.

When my son was 5 years old, his 2 year old step-brother (me and his dad divorced – he got remarried – had a new “biter”)…..went to crawl up in my 5 year old’s lap (it was summer – my son had on thin shorts and batman undies)….anyway, the 2 year old chomped down on my son’s penith. My 5 year old son was screaming in agony and the 2 year was apparently “thinking like a turtle and waiting for the sound of thunder – before letting go”. You couldn’t pull the 2 year old away because he was not releasing his grip (teeth). And “thumping” him in the back of the head only made him bite harder. This was the 3rd “bad” bite he had left on the 5 year old. Still had fresh wounds from prior bites to his arm and his right calf. So, there wasn’t any “explaining” to the 2 year old – “son, don’t bite – that hurts your brother and he is too young to be neutered right now”………..
I was ready to “fire up the 2 year old’s bottom” – spanking!

My cousin(well, not legally but, he is so close, we all count him as part of the family) was hit and bit by his mother when she was angry and trying to teach him a lesson. The most she ever got was a “Dont do that” from police..
