Chicago IL – A man is in jail today nursing some facial injuries and a gunshot wound to the ankle after he tried to mug the wrong person on Friday.
Police say 24-year-old Anthony Miranda approached a man sitting in a parked car and asked for a lighter. When the man sitting in the car told Miranda he didn’t have one, Miranda pulled out a handgun and demanded money.
The victim obliged, giving Miranda an undisclosed sum of dough. But Miranda bit off more than he could chew when he instructed the man to get out of his car. Tuns out the person he picked to rob was a MMA fighter and when got out of the car, he took control of Miranda’s gun.
As the pair struggled for the gun, it accidentally fired and Miranda was outfitted with a bullet to the ankle. The victim then held Miranda to the ground until police arrived.
Miranda was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries before being taken to jail on charges of armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He’s no stranger to the legal process, having prior convictions that include residential burglary.
This is the second story this year involving an MMA fighter kicking a would-be thief’s ass. The first was back in January when 25-year-old Tyler Fryman, an MMA cage fighter, choked out a man trying to steal his girlfriend’s car.
