Woman Dies After Gunfight With Police

November 15, 2011 at 9:51 am by

Woman Dies After Gunfight With PoliceBONNEY LAKE, Wash. — On Sunday, 38-year-old Holly Crayhay went out of this world in the same way I envision Jaded will; in a hail of bullets at the end of a police chase.

Police had tried pulling Crayhay over after she was noticed driving erratically. She stopped for them once, only to pull away. Police eventually did a PIT maneuver, pinning her car against a guardrail.

That’s when Crayhay pulled out a firearm and began shooting at officers. No police were hit, but they returned fire. Crayhay was hit as was a pit bull that had jumped out of her car and charged towards them. The dog was killed at the scene, Crayhay would die later at the hospital.

“It’s unfortunate, but you know, you can’t shoot at the police without having them shoot back at you,” said Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.

Reading through some of the comments left on a couple news articles, Crayhay had quite the criminal history, and going by her Facebook postings, some mental issues as well. She posted a pic of her gun on Sept 12 along with a series of nonsensical, semi-coherent posts about her and God being combined.

Now Morbid, don’t you think that you owe Jaded an apology for that off the cuff comment ?
And why on earth would you envision someone as sweet as Jaded meeting this type of an end ?

Morbid reading your article the only one that I could muster up any sympathy for was the poor pit bull.

“Crayhay was hit as was a pit bull that had jumped out of her car and charged”

This dog was the victim of FEAR of his breed … he was only attempting to get away from that crazy Bitch, and was gunned down making his break to safety.

Looking at her facebook page, something really was wrong with her. It’s all just about finding God and how she hates everyone else. I wonder why no one stepped up and helped her directly. Sad ending. I also have to laugh a little, people posting on her page saying RIP. Like Pete said, she won’t be logging in anytime soon lol.

“It’s unfortunate, but you know, you can’t shoot at the police without having them shoot back at you,”

I’m thinking that’s what she had in mind. And I wonder if her not hitting any of the officers was on purpose, because she was drugged out of her gourd, or just a really bad shot.

  • CT

That is because she is reading her MySpace comments.

I had NO IDEA that God had a Facebook page!

That, and it was pretty obvious that she was waiting for something to happen to her- I get the impression that committing suicide would have been outside of her belief system, so she probably walked into it somehow? I know it’s just speculation, but for fuck’s sake, look at her Facebook page.

  • MissTrix

Sounds like suicide by cop to me. Reading her Facebook is like reading a descent into madness on par with anything written by Poe in it’s chilling effect. Incredibly sad for those that tried to get her help & the kids she left behind. Damn…

Reading her FB page, why didn’t anyone she knew have her committed?!  Baker Act if around for  a reason, someone should have clearly used it on her!  I actually got creeped out reading her posts, and I don’t even know her.  I can’t imagine her friends and family shrugging her rants off and going “oh, Holly, she’s so silly”…unless of course they are just as crazy as she was.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PKSJ42VBXNAFJLOH54Y3K4KTXU Heather Habilatory

    “I
really love u god it will be over soon i hope then it will be u and me
god&holly holly&god they all will be gone i really love u god”

That combined with the picture of a gun…. why didn’t anyone do something?

Someone who appears to be a stranger to her made a REALLY good point on the picture of the gun: There were all these warning signs, and no one did shit about it, but now that she’s dead, they sure are turning out to post “RIP” and “I love you” to her wall. Too little, too late.

I mean look at this stuff:

    Im going to end creation
    September 7 at 4:04pm

    God
im going to make one last effort attempt to find u before september
12th if not expect the end of the world im going to do it if u can read

OTHERS HELD GOD DOWN SO JESUS COULD DO IT IF I EVER GET MY HANDS ON HIM I

She was clearly spiraling out of control. You can watch it gradually happen.

Well, it’s like everyone else in humanity. Nobody pays any attention to what anyone else ever puts on their Facebook accounts, because they’re all to damn busy posting their own updates every 13 minutes about how great their lives are, and how thankful they are for all of the blessings in their lives, etc. Nobody had any damn time for all of her bitching, whining, and schizophrenia. Unbelievable.

It looks like some people were trying to help her and had the police intervene only to make it worse, cause she was posting “fuck u”‘s like they were going out of style..

Who are you and what have you done with our Cedric?!?!?!?

  • LeaveMeBe

Suicide by cop is a good guess.

  • LeaveMeBe

I think you may be (mostly) correct in that people are consumed with their FB pages to post about themselves, but I have to also agree with Heather that surely SOMEONE (family or a close friend) cared enough to read her posts. I only have 75 FB friends and I personally know and/or am related to each one and I mainly have it to keep up with them. I rarely post myself, so I would definitely see something like this. Could you imagine seeing posts like this from someone you know? Bizarre.

  • LeaveMeBe

They possibly could have asked for her to be taken in by police and evaluated if she was a threat to herself or anyone else. But you cannot hold an adult against their will without cause and the moment a professional deems them not a danger to themself or anyone else they have to be released. Yes it’s fucked up but that’s how our social service programs roll now.

  • Anonymous

I just don’t get it. I read through her Facebook page & saw where others recounted having called the police to have them check in on her, police say she’s fine, “waaaahh, why didn’t the police do anything??” blahblahblah. Uh… people do realize that it’s not the police’s job to deal with mental illness, right? If they thought she was so crazy, why didn’t anyone call a mental institution? Or seek a medical power of attorney? Or take her to a doctor to explain her symptoms & insist she be evaluated? Or you know, all those other legitimate things you can do when someone you know is effing crazy.

I just hate that her family is badmouthing the police for shooting her. The police did exactly what they were responsible to do in all situations. Her family didn’t. And if they’re looking for someone to blame for her death, it should be Holly & themselves.

(I will refrain from making the Holly Cray-Cray joke, I will refrain from making the Holly Cray-Cray joke, I will refrain…)

I always pictured Jaded dying of a massive coronary after winning a bacon eating contest. She is a role model for women everywhere.

  • LeaveMeBe

Morbid, you forgot to add that Jaded will probably be nekkid when she goes down in a hail of bullets at the end of a police chase because she is classy like that. No normal car chase and police shoot-out for our Jaded.

  • Anonymous

Which leads us to one of two conclusions (about the people who DID notice). Either they noticed and are too batshit crazy themselves to put two and two together – or – they were too self-centered and lazy to do anything about it. Someone else posted though that she read on another site that her family is blaming police, stating they knew she was mentally unstable and called police but they said they couldn’t do anything about it. Not sure the validity of that. Seems like they really only have themselves to blame. Being a 34 year old woman, if my parents thought I was insane, they wouldn’t wait on the government to do something about it. They’d probably kidnap me and have me involuntarily committed.

Unfortunately in the U.S. if you have mental illness, but have no money,or insurance the centers do not want you there – oh,they will take a person, when the person is shoved down their throats by the correct agencies, but soon as they can get away with doing so (and it usually does not take them but a few days, to a week)they paper whip the person, and toss them out the door ,and back into play in society. This is all jokes aside a very sad,and disturbing reality.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XKMAEMPVJ5T2Y35HKYTNG7I6SY Cedric

    LMAO. WHAT ???

  • Anonymous

When I read this story, the first person I thought of was Kelly Thomas. Of course, in his situation, the police were totally out of line, but it’s just another example of how terrible the outcome can be when serious, untreated mental illness meets law enforcement.

Isn’t it amazing the kinds of bullshit feedback loops we seem to have gotten ourselves into in this country?

You are so right. What happened to her is genuinely very sad. I feel badly for her family who didn’t know what to do since she hadn’t proven herself to be a danger to anyone. I feel badly for the police who killed a mentally ill woman, only knowing that they were being shot at & responding in kind. I feel badly for Holly herself – because the things she was writing on her Facebook page were the ramblings of a mind in a rapidly increasing descent. I feel badly for the next family, individual, and law enforcement group that this happens to. With the status quo, we will see this play out many times again.

was gonna hurt herself, and they just let her be! Then days later she
ended up in jail on a warrant. WHY is all I am asking did they NOT see
something wrong with her??? She may now Rest in peace!Monday, November 14 at 12:33pm

    From another source…

Her family says the SeaTac woman was mentally ill, and in court papers
she is described as likely being “a danger to both herself and the
    community.”

Her 20-year-old son – one of three siblings who live with their father – told the Times he
received a Sept 12 text message from his mother stating she was “going
to shoot someone in Tacoma for taking her child and/or she may just kill
    herself.”

According to court records, on Sept. 23, though legally restrained
from seeing her children, she chased after another son who ran away
screaming after she threatened to kill him “for raping God.”

On the same day, she texted another family member: “I know God is
there let him go outside right now I will meet him or I will bring fiery
    depths of hell right now…”

On Oct. 11 she was charged in King County Superior Court with felony
harassment, and was being sought on a warrant carrying $60,000 bail.

From everything I have read, multiple people DID try to get her help but nobody listened. I’m going to have to side with the family on this one. It seems like they did all they knew to do to try to get her the help she so obviously needed but the cops, the courts, & social services decided there was nothing wrong with her despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I don’t know about Washington but if it is like my state, you are screwed if you need mental health services. The only way to get it is to be rich, have good insurance or get committed. The only provider that takes Medicaid is not accepting new patients and the county health department only provides “mental health” for addictions. So unless you are a crackhead you are fucked and I imagine nationwide the picture is no prettier. The healthcare system is so jacked up that things like this happen.I bet she had sought help and either her insurance would not cover it or she could not find a provider with openings.Tragic.

I just want to know what the courts and cops are supposed to do?  If an adult is acting like a loon, and refuses mental heath treatment there is nothing you can do about it.  She can make threats all she wants, she will just get brought back to jail and released…It’s harder than you think to get someone help especially if they don’t want it. I don’t blame the court or cops, they did their part.

  • http://www.myspace.com/davidschwab DavidRavenMoon

Did anyone notice that the cops say she rolled down her window and started shooting, but the photo of the car at kirotv.com shows the window rolled up and shot out? That was pointed out by someone who claims to be her sister. She also said she had the mind of a 10 year old. Wonder how she was able to drive and get a gun?

  • shannie

She passed a driving test and bought one.
She had kids too. The thing is with crazy people is they’re pretty smart about acting normal in a lot of everyday situations, they can be just normal enough to people who don’t deal with their nuttiness on a everyday basis (like family, close friends etc.)..

  • http://www.facebook.com/MountainsMakeMeNauseous Jean

I felt awful reading her updates and stuff. It just kind of made me want to turn back time and make her get help. I’m pissed that the people who were communicating with her this whole time totally ignored her going off the deep end. I mean, she was posting about Jesus raping God and her seeing it, she clearly had some severe mental issues that all her post-death well-wishers ignored entirely. This should not have ended this way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/MountainsMakeMeNauseous Jean

I saw that as her being in and out of trouble with the law more than family calling out of concern. Otherwise, she’d be sent to a psychiatric unit, not jail. It does seem she had brief periods of “normalcy” and then suddenly dove back off. She really needed help.

  • http://www.facebook.com/MountainsMakeMeNauseous Jean

You can, in many places, be forced into hospitalization by court order. You have to call the right people, though, and that’s not necessarily the police. In PA, at least, if someone sees a legitimate threat to yourself of someone else they can 302 you into the hospital for at least 72 hours. I don’t know if that’s how it is in Washington, but it should be an option in every state, if it isn’t.

I starting reading her Facebook, but I was scandalous over the illiteracy of her friends and family and I couldn’t continue. Can people with a stronger stomach just reply to this post with some quotes of hers?

I “liked” this comment just because I think your take is spot on, not because I like what’s happening with social services.

I haven’t looked at her FB page but I wonder if she had a traumatic brain injury or a stroke recently?

Well, you, me, Lena, Morbid and GG covered; police chase, shoot-out, nekkid, knives, naughty bits, bacon, and booze. I guess we should toss in throwing stars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and a hot guy and that should cover it. Oh, and a riding lawnmower.

And handcuffs. How could I forget handcuffs?

While I won’t debate that the mental health system and her family and friends both ultimately failed her in this time of crisis….
I will say, fuck balls! I have read some similar crazy shit on local acquaintances facebook pages… both of whom have been on again off again in the local psych-ward.
Wonder how long it will be before they go down in flames…
