Haunted House Worker Accidentally Hanged HerselfFENTON, Mo. — A teenager is lucky to be alive today and became more urban legend debunking material after she accidentally hanged herself with a noose while working inside a Halloween attraction.

The 17-year-old girl somehow got herself entangled in the prop while working at Creepyworld Thursday night. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a co-worker making rounds found the girl unconscious.

She has since been moved out of the intensive-care unit and her condition is improving.

Creepyworld is a haunted attraction designed to look like a small, haunted town. They claim to be St Louis’ largest haunted attraction with seven haunted houses in one location, with over 100 employees.

This girl is not the first teenager to hang themselves at a haunted attraction. Back in 1990, Brian Jewell accidentally hanged himself while scaring people at a haunted hayride.  Many patrons who were driven by the dead teen were unaware that it was a stunt that had gone wrong.

Another teen suffered a similar fate at a haunted hayride in 2001. Caleb Rebh wanted to up the scares so instead of simply jumping from a tree to scare riders, he used a rope that was suspending a skeleton from the limb of a tree. Unfortunately, he underestimated the strength of the tree limb.

After putting the double-knotted noose around is neck, he let go of the rope and the tree whipped back, pulling the rope taut.  Witnesses first thought he was joking as he frantically tried to remove the rope. By time they realized he wasn’t, it was too late — he choked to death with his feet on the ground.

      Honestly doesn’t surprise me that this happen there. Creepyworld and the other haunted houses ran by the same company aren’t very bright. At least it seem that way when I was working the haunted house scene. 

      Just glad this girl came out of it alright.

      The only possible way I could die on Halloween night is from going into a diabetic coma after eating the 10-lb. bag of candy I promised I would save for the trick or treaters.

      No no, I get that.  I meant (without “accidentally” putting her head through the noose like your kid who did it a couple years back who you quoted in the article) 

      Was it an attraction she just got caught in? Was she supposed to be “hanging” with safety in place, that wasn’t in place, or had failed?  Was just looking for clarification on how it happened. 

      Not trying to argue you with you, just inquisitive minded, my Holiness.

      Your feet are on the ground if someone is strangling you too, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t get their hands off your neck.  Same with a rope, if it’s tight and you can’t get it loose, sleepy-time.

      Its still hard for me to get a visual of that.  I can see not being able to get person’s hand off your neck if they are trying to strangle you but I don’t see how you can’t loosen the rope from around your neck.  I get the auto erotic too because that is intentional.

      I know, its very creepy. It would make me sick to know I’d just watched someone die like that, even thinking he was just acting.  I read a few other news write ups about this and seems he was working it for free because he really loved Halloween and getting to scare people.  So very sad.

      Maybe I’m just not getting it, but how the hell does a person accidentally put a noose around her neck and accidentally hang herself?

      She’s a very lucky girl, to still be alive.  Then again, if she was trying to off herself, she failed and she might not be feeling so lucky.  Another thing I’m trying to figure out is how someone does it and dies with his feet on the ground…. I suppose it really does take all kinds to make a world.

      Go here and see the death from Final Fantasy (I forget which one it was…) It’s possible to get strangled with your feet on the ground, as is (“proven”) in this movie.

      On a serious note, I am wondering why there wasn’t a fray or “break away” safety feature on the rope that actually killed her, or if it was some other type of thing that didn’t function right. Maybe it didn’t happen the way I am imaging it…Still really sad.

      The manner of death in most hangings is brain ischemia. Compression of the neck specifically the carotid arteries causes a lack of blood to the brain, which can result in unconsciousness in as little as ten to fifteen seconds. People rarely “choke” to death although it does happen. It is actually very very easy to die this way, even by accident. My guess is the girl had the rope around her neck and slipped off of whatever she was standing on, panic set in or she was too weak to pull herself up by the rope she was hanging on, loss of consciousness was close to immediate  She is lucky to be alive but she will probably suffer permanent brain damage.
