Dennis Dodson Homeless Man Accused Of Raping Elderly Woman Who Tried To Help HimOrland Park, IL — An 83-year-old woman was allegedly attacked Friday evening after the homeless man she attempted to help turned on her.

According to police, the woman bumped into 34-year-old Dennis Dodson in a field behind a Home Depot while taking a shortcut home from the bank last Thursday. Police say she gave the man $5 and some food, returning later with a little more cash and a promise to help find him a place to stay. Later that evening, she called the Salvation Army and her church to arrange housing for Dodson. They, in turn, suggested the woman call police to do a well-being check on the man.

She returned to the field the next morning to find Dodson lying on the ground and surrounded by beer cans. When the woman told Dodson she had spoken with police and firemen about local homeless shelters, he attacked.

Police say an agitated Dodson grabbed the woman by the shoulders and began kissing her, trying to force his tongue in her mouth. He then allegedly threw her to the ground and raped her, pressing his hand to her mouth to muffle her screams. When he was finished with her, he hopped on his bicycle and fled the area.

The woman crawled home and called police. She was transported to the hospital with bruises, scrapes to her back and internal injuries sustained in the attack.

Dodson was picked up later that evening and booked on charges of aggravated sexual assault. He was ordered held on $1.5 million bond.

trusting kind woman, guess she wont be helping dirty homeless men anymore… what was she doing alone in a field behind home depot anyway? I hope her church or local police or firemen can show her safer ways to help people…

  • Wicked Smilee

…no good deed goes unpunished.  I was once attacked by a homeless guy I gave a ride to, in order for him to reunite with his long lost family.  70 or so miles down the freeway, with one more offramp to go, he grabbed my keys out the ignition, and my purse, while he served me a knuckle sammich.  I swerved the lifeless car onto the shoulder (without power, you have no brakes), and he fled.   I sat there feelin stupid, not even being able to drive away.  No money, no phone, stuck…

The cops found my empty purse, about a year later, and called me.  Fuck the homeless.

some people are homeless because they are weirdos. Look at that guy who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart, he was a homeless guy that her parents tried to help out. You have to protect yourself first.

  • Anonymous

I believe that some people are homeless actually by choice.  They don’t want the responsibility or expense of maintaining a home.  Screw that! I mean, why spend all the drug money on rent? How stupid is that?

I used to work with the homeless on the streets of downtown Miami, FL, and believe me, you meet people from both ends of the spectrum.  Some are just down on their luck and grateful as hell for the soup and sandwiches we gave them, shoes, socks, clothes, blankets, and we also offered contacts for those interested in day labor.  Then again, I’ve seen guys come up to where we were parked and try to start trouble and make threats and so forth.

The funny thing was, those guys that made trouble? They were not around by the next week, usually.  We were afraid to ask what happened to them, just kinda hoped the cops got to them first.

This woman was in her 80′s.  There is no reason he should have to harm her.  He could have taken everything she had and left.  But no, he had to RAPE her.  Disgusting creep.

Maybe he realized how old she was (83) and thought the old gal was paying him for a little whoopi. Which she probably hadn’t had in years.
(I’m just kidding on that one.)

He won’t be homeless no more for a awhile.
Three hots and a cot at the county jail.
Wow, what a surprise….just in time for the winter season. Coi

Personally I would have just stolen a car or something rather than hurt a defenseless older lady who was kind to me.
The jail time would probably be comparable.

Yeah, I keep a wall up when it comes to the homeless. . . .I’ve spared change here and there, but I don’t even do that anymore.

Just based on that way that guy looks, I’d be leery of approaching him if he was working a fucking counter at a business somewhere. Drunk in a field? Fucking forget it.

It’s nice that there are a (very, very, very, very, VERY) few people out there that are still capable of actual, basic human kindness, but you can’t afford to be that stupid about it in this day and age.

Want to help the homeless? Donate to a shelter or a soup kitchen or do volunteer work where you’ll be surrounded by other people when you deal with them. Don’t be the naive 83-year-old woman who repeatedly approaches the guy who looks like a fucking monster  thinking she’ll come out of it with nothing but a sunshiny feeling.

As has already been stated, NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED.

Well she did accomplish her goal. She got him a nice place to stay with three “HOT” means and a nice “ROCK” to lay his head. What an idiot. I hope he stays there for a very long time. It’s sad it doesn’t always pay to be nice!

  • http://justiceforcaylee.synthasite.com/ shyloh

Living in Chicago for many years you learn to ignore the “homeless” Some people make a living at begging.

Doing anything more than giving the homeless a couple dollars is stupid. These are desperate people and some will gladly kill you to get whatever you have. One homeless lady in my town killed this old lady who had been helping her for years…the old lady let her into her home…they later found the old lady with her head bashed in from a stone she had in her garden in the back yard…the homeless lady then sold the woman’s stuff for crack…

Sometimes I think people are so open minded their fucking brain falls out. Don’t trust these people.

I hate to say this but I think the goody goods who want to save the world are as much a problem as the criminals. They end up going to other countries and getting held hostage or they get their head bashed in by drug addicted bums.

(I think I should create a religion or political party based purely on indifference and non-involvement)

  • Pyncky

Worthless piece of shit. I hope the lady is okay.

I’ve read some really irritating articles on how much some panhandlers make. Some can make around $40 an hour if they do it well. Even after getting a damn engineering degree I don’t make nearly that much AND am in horrific debt!

“I sat there feelin stupid, not even being able to drive away.” LOL. I am laughing with you – not at you.I believe that in the end people get what they give – so you should at some point in your life have received a blessing for your attempted good deed, and that Bastard should have, and most likely has received an ass whooping for his bad conduct.

If I have the money to spare I will give it. Sometimes it might be to someone who doesn’t deserve it, but as clichéd as it sounds, even if one person out of ten really needed it I’m glad that they got it. I’m lucky that a few bucks aren’t going to break me, so I don’t sweat it. Hopefully, I’m building good karma.

  • Valerie

I wouldn’t even give them money. There used to be a couple homeless panhandlers outside the Walmart that was destroyed by the tornado. I would grab a couple of those cheap sandwiches and a couple bottles of water if I could spare anything. I would rather give them food and water than risk them spending the money on drugs/alcohol (I know that not all homeless people are like that).

  • Anonymous

I can’t imagine what this poor woman is feeling. I’m sure she feels embarrassed, vulnerable, the list could go on and on. Why should this shitstain be ‘punished’ with a roof over his head and regular meals? Give me about an hour in that field with him and he’ll be punished enough. Now, I’m gonna need some fishing line, a rusty butter knife, my trusty .357 magnum, a tub of crisco, a pair of tweezers, and the biggest dildo you can find.

  • guillotinegirl

Problem solved. He’s no longer homeless; it just worked out differently than the old lady had planned.

  • LeaveMeBe

This just makes me sick. I hope she is able to recover fully physically but I doubt she will ever be OK emotionally. Look at how he is grinning in that damn mugshot. I can’t think of anything heinous enough to wish on him right now.

I work in an area of Austin that is populated with the homeless and prostitutes (no, I’m not a hooker) and I have been known to give out a hamburger, some change or a cigarette and it was usually to the same guy. He knows my truck, and one night when I had to work until midnight I was on my way home and got caught at a stoplight. Another homeless guy with mental health issues was heckling me at my truck while waving a sign at me and Richie saw it and came running to my defense. He grabbed the other guy and shook him and told him that I was one of the “nice ladies” and to leave me alone. The heckler looked at me an apologized. Now they both look out for me, especially late at night. I don’t really trust them, but it’s nice to know there are a couple who seem to care about me and will defend me. Sometimes, being kind does pay off.

Spare change is what you have when you work for it on a “spare” job.

    Nice comment.

I love that mindset. I prefer to donate (small amounts because I’m poor) to charities instead, at least I know someone is verifying the identities of those in need. But as long as the good karma is going round we’re good to go

  • http://truecrimereport.com iLLusionS

No good deed goes unpunished. You have people that look over, and away from the homeless all the time. And here is someone who reaches out…and THIS is how he repays her…..I wish Instant Karma was at work here and that he died choking on his own vomit or something.

she was walking. as far as i know that is still legal.

  • Lemont Cranston

Shyloh, hi to someone local, not sure how close you are to Harlem and the 55 but when the “homeless” guy there calls it quits for the night, he walks away counting his stack and walks straight to his apartment off of 47th. He makes a good living for himself.

My local grocery makes it really easy to donate to the local food bank. The have prepackaged bags and all you have to do is pick the price bag you want to donate and they ring it up and take care of the rest. They also do bags for school supplies, holidays, and the local animal shelter.

  • Anonymous

My sister used to do the same thing with a homeless man near her job. She would always bring him an extra bagel or egg mcmuffin. It’s a nice way to help someone.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EFHX7YJV7E75CMXRU3INLQ7ABY Todd

lol I live right there.  He’s either at the Harlem exit on 55 going north, or harlem and archer.  A few summers ago you used to see ‘homeless’ fight over the corners at Harlem and Archer.  It’s a sham, I’ll never give a penny to those dope heads.  Some day I plan to show my son just how needy these guys are and bring em a loaf of bread to see their response.

If I have food, I will give them food. I do NOT give the homeless money because if they got there but want to get out, they can. THe rest just choose to stay like that.

I also believe in helping the children more than the homeless. I donate once a month or 2 to the grocery stores to buy food for the people that need food (can’t come up with the name right now), I buy at the beginning of the school year school supplies for the kids & donate them Or money & once a year we donate to the Stollery Children’s Hospital (because my kids could end up there , God forbid, knock on wood). If any kid comes to my door selling something, I won’t buy it but I’ll give’em a buck or two.

Seems to me like this jackass decided to have one last hurrah before going to jail:

“Got drunk, “fuck”ed a girl & now he’s in the slammer. Happy cause he’ll have a place to stay, food to eat & all the homemade alcohol he can learn how to make.”

  • Reen B

Mine does that too. They also have little $1, $3, $5 tags they can scan to add a donation (for disaster relief like the fires we have here now, etc.) to your tab. Easy peasy and you know they’re getting help. I don’t care that they don’t know who it’s from. LOL

  • Lucy Van Pelt

My coworker once noticed a homeless man asleep on a bench near a McDonalds.  She bought him a biscuit and some coffee and left it on the sidewalk where he was sleeping.  She got in her car just in time to see the coffee cup smashed on her window, the biscuit came next, and he cursed her as she drove away.

  • Anonymous

A LOT  of people are homeless because they are weirdos. Or drunks, drug addicts, mentally ill, etc. That’s why getting involved with them is not a good idea for the average person.

Better to volunteer at a shelter or soup kitchen, donate goods, etc., than getting in their face like that.

  • Anonymous

I’ve been cursed out for offering to buy food for a homeless guy who wanted money.

Of course, that was when I was young and naive and gave a crap.

I hand out food. You can tell if they’re really needy when you give them food, or if they’re just looking for booze-drug money.

  • Valerie

Honestly, I think that even the ones that would spend the money on drugs/booze are thankful for the food. It frees up the money they get for more drugs/booze. Seriously, I do wonder about the two men up at my Walmart. I hope they got to safety before the tornado hit. I never knew their names.

  • http://musclegrown.jigsy.com Darrell FIne

LOTS of drunks. Lots and lots of drunk homeless people. You’ll see em’ at the day labor places. Work one day, you pass by em in the streets and they’re drunk as fuck for the next three days…. back to the day labor it is. BUT ONLY when said homeless person has run out of booze.

  • Anonymous

Yuck, sorry you live in such a shithole neighborhood.

  • Anonymous

    I’d do him.

She was probably wearing something provocative or sexy, which makes me wonder if he’s the only one to blame for this possibly provoked attack?????

  • Anonymous

The key thing is to always have the scary ones on your side. No one will mess with you when your backup is a couple of crazy homeless dudes or some hardcore thugs.

  • Anonymous

First just let me say. A lot of homeless people are also veterans, who cannot find jobs, confused about their benefits, probably lots of hardcore mental issues from the war, family problems. etc.
But pieces of shit like this guy, just piss me the fuck off.
    I fucking hate homeless people.
I hate getting sneered at if I don’t give them my one and only dollar left, because I actually work and earned this dollar, maybe I am going through a hard time too, maybe I like to smoke a little rock once in a while (not true) maybe I like to get a little fucked up, but I don’t sit on the corner and beg, I don’t rape 84 year old women, I don’t have a dog that I force to keep with me because I am homeless and give it the shots that it needs. I don’t ask people for cigarettes.
I remember when I was stationed at fort bragg there was this guy who would sit outside of the walmart off post, holding a sign that he is homeless and panhandling,he would sit there for about 8 hours, then around 7 o’clock at night he would walk over to the gas station where his car was parked, use his HUGE wad of money to buy a case of beer and cigarettes, and this motherfucker would do this everyday.
I fucking hate trying to enjoy myself in savannah GA, trying to take in the beautiful scenery while some homeless guy is masturbating on a bench next to me.  or trying to have a good time with my husband while hobos are fighting over the last 40oz of Old’ E.
Shit I could go on for hours.
But trash like this guy, the shit is only getting worse.

Hobo with a shotgun is an awesome movie by the way.

  • LeaveMeBe

    EXACTLY! :)

  • wishfulsinful

I used to work at a bank a few miles southeast from there and there was always a homeless dude begging at the intersection nearby. From time to time I’d see him in the bank making deposits; this guy had actually accumulated over $200,000.00 in his savings. I never gave him another dime. Also, in the Loop years ago, I encountered a Latino mother/son duo who approached me and my friend as we were marching up the El with a sob story about how they got pickpocketed as they were on their way back from the Mexican Consulate and needed some train fare . Being a Latina, I felt bad for em since they reminded me of my mom and brothers so of course I helped them out with a few bucks, as did my friend. A few days later, wouldnt you know it, same duo approached me again me with the same bullshit story. ASSHOLES. All I could do was shake my head at them and call em ‘sinverguenzas’ (shameless). And not to mention all the homeless who get pissed off when you try to buy them food instead of giving them $$$. Fuck that. When I want to help the needy/less fortunate than me(there aren’t that many less, I’ll tell you), I’ll gladly volunteer at a soup kitchen/food pantry or donate clothing to the Salvation Army.

  • http://twitter.com/TonnieGM Tonnie

Just because a person doesn’t have a home doesn’t mean he’s a drug addict or alcoholic.  I can’t believe that stereotype is still alive and well.  Maybe the economy didn’t affect you, but it did affect thousands of people who never imagined they’d be without a roof over their heads.

Nobody, as a child, says “I want to be homeless when I grow up” — it doesn’t happen that way.  These are people we’re talking about, living and breathing people with hopes and dreams just like anyone else.  Everyone’s got a story about a homeless person who threw their donated food back at them… it’s a cliche that a lot of people like to use.  Being an asshole isn’t exclusive to any one class of people, though, even the most shallow minds surely realize that!

But just as there are alcoholics and drug addicts who own a home, there are also those that are homeless.  To say that every person without a home is a bum is just ludicrous when considering the number of jobs that were eliminated last year alone.  Keep looking down on them if it makes you feel better about yourself.  Dimming the lights of another doesn’t make yours shine any brighter.
