Amy Winehouse Found Dead

July 23, 2011 at 1:57 pm by

Amy Winehouse Amy Winehouse Found DeadLondon – News reports are confirming that 27-year-old singer Amy Winheouse was found dead in her London home this afternoon.

Police said they found her body at her flat in Camden Square, north London, after being called by ambulance services.  Metropolitan police are treating the death as unexplained.

Winehouse has a pretty long history detailing her battles with drugs and alcohol, remaining cannon fodder for the tabloids for a pretty good run until Lindsay Lohan showed up. But her devoted fans had hoped for a comeback when Winehouse started her Back to Black tour after spending a week in rehab. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take.

She was booed off the stage after showing up in Belgrade, stumbling around on stage, mumbling and forgetting the lyrics to her own songs.

Shortly after that disastrous performance, Winehouse cancelled her remaining tour dates while her management released a statement that read: ”Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen.”

I’ll update this as more details become available.

I know it’s bound to sound kinda mean and heartless, but I’m gonna say it:  Good riddance to another drug addicted public spectacle.  We need less of these folks in the spotlight showing our youth of the world how to screw up their lives and not be held accountable.
And, honestly, I do hope she is free of her ‘demons’ at this point.

While I can agree with what you’re saying, the thing that strikes me is sad is the fact that she was damn talented. Seriously, go listen to “Back to Black” and “Frank”. That is some damn fine Neo-soul.

There is not a family in the world that goes untouched by drug or alcohol abuse. I’m sure even you have an addict or two in your own family. Would you want the same said about them should their inner demons get the best of them? I don’t see this as a good riddance. I see this as a sad end to the sad life of a very talented lady. She had so much going on for her but she apparently lacked someone in her life willing to see to it she took care of herself and got her problems in check.

  • Anonymous

She was actually a beautiful woman when she first hit big. What we see there, is the effects of the drugs and alcohol. Her handlers should never have let her go out like that, they should have taken 1 look at her and whisked her back to rehab. Maybe if they had she would still be here now.

Is this anymore of a surprise than the death of the whistle blower on the News of the World phone hacks?

And I agree, the only thing I could enjoy from Amy Winehouse – those incredible knockers.

After watching the movie, Machete, I was wondering whether I was watching an action flick, or Lindsay Lohan’s biography.

Looking on FB theres Plenty of People drinking up to her, Oy VEY!, and to Kyfyre, Anyone in my Family that has drug or alcohol abuse is getting the tar beaten out of them, tolerance leads to a sad end everytime, My brother woudln’t tell our mom where  y niece lived in town who was under the influence of a drug dealer, ’cause i was gonna go over there and break one of his legs off and shove it up his ass, let his 25yr old daughter be fed drugs, and kept prisoner in an Apt till she was 95 pounds, looser musicians with bad habits dont deserve all the HYPE and attention they get, which is artificially stoked, really her latest songs sucked HARD.

and yes my handle band, are some real fuck-ups, the songs kept me going when things get tough XD

Well, it’s one thing when the drug addicted public spectacle is a piece of shit and untalented, i.e., completely and utterly worthless.  But Amy Winehouse wasn’t worthless, like the bulk of the completely and utterly worthless drug addicted web spectacles here on DD.  She had *real* talent, just like most of the other Club 27ers before her.  If jazz isn’t your style, okay, fine, but even if that’s true, you can’t deny her talents in her field.

  • Anonymous

Fighting addiction is a motherfucker. She was beautiful, had a beautiful voice and I am glad I still have her songs. RIP Amy. I hope you find peace at last.

  • Anonymous

Like I wrote to my FB people, it’s not at all surprising, but it’s still sad.  She had great talent and I liked her vocals (and Rehab is pretty catchy).  Drug addiction is idiotic…but I guess some humans don’t know where their thresholds are.

NOt surprising, you could tell by her concert in Serbia she didnt have much time left.

  • Anonymous

Believe it or not, I don’t merely think it’s sad because of her talent and I could care less about her fame. Yes, she had her problems but she was only 27, she had her whole life ahead of her and could have done some great things – maybe even helped save some lives herself by showing others they could get clean. If she was the kind of addicts we read about here, I probably wouldn’t feel the same. You know, the ones who abuse or kill their kids or other people. But she wasn’t one of them, to my knowledge the only person she ever hurt with her drug/alcohol abuse was herself. Until now and I’m sure her parents are feeling the sting of that loss.

I won’t lie, I have people I care about deeply who struggled with their own addictions. I would have loved to have beat the hell out of them, made them see reason. But, they were adults and had I went that route, I wouldn’t and couldn’t have helped them if I was sitting in jail for assault. For some, they finally decided to accept the love and support they were being offered.. others, well, they weren’t so fortunate.  So yeah, to me this whole thing is sad.

By the way, I actually like Alice in Chains too. My music tastes are all over the board.

True. But even “back in the day” stars had these issues. And before it was the celebrities, it was the aristocracy and/or the royalty. Hell, I just watched a documentary on a female Chinese Mummy that was several thousand years old who was an opium addict, and died as a result of her horrendously rich diet. What I’m saying is that this behavior is nothing new, at all. It seems to be the normal way that some people react to being rich/famous/powerful. I don’t think that makes it any less sad, though.

  • AliceinChainsman =]

that i completely agree with, its just the media like to use these folks to Obfuscate and Inveigle the lack of ethics thats popular..

  • Anonymous

Apparently she was held accountable if your referring to a cause and effect to behavior. If your insinuating (and are most likely correct) that being a drug addict caused her death, then can’t we assume that her dying kinda sorta is the punishment for such behavior?

This poor girl should be a lesson for society. While I feel for her and her family, her life was like a virus. First of all – she got fame, and that fame gave her the ability to kill herself. But the other part of the analogy of a virus is that she was, to varying degrees, a role model. I am pretty sure that even kids who mocked her druggie lifestyle dream of her success and money. And many others are not capable enough of complex thought to realize how terrible her druggie lifestyle was.  So – the virus killed this one girl, and infected Lord knows how many more.

As long as society allows people like this to financially prosper and not be held to standards, we will have more train wrecks like this girl.

By the way, I hear people say that she was amazingly talented. I have no idea. There are lots of amazingly talented people who never get a chance. But the ones who get a chance and destroy it? I will NOT buy or even listen to their product. I see it as trying to help the person. If I don’t buy their CD, that is less money they have to kill themselves with.

As some one who has several heroine addicts and crackheads in her family I am sad that she wasn’t able to win the battle against drugs.  Thank God she was thoughtful enough to not bear children so she didn’t cause any damage to anyone but herself. At least she doesn’t have to suffer anymore.

    RIP Ms. Winehouse

  • Anonymous

I see your point on being held accountable – at the end, regarding her drug use.
I still maintain that she had a gift, and she didn’t value that enough to use it to better the world.  She used it to assuage her discomfort.  Not a great example if you ask me.
There is a disgusting, sickening dance of sorts between the media and those in the public eye with drug and alcohol or other addictions.  This interaction is on display for the world.  One concern I hold is that some young people will be led astray due to their admiration of the money, power and fame held by these addicts.  But maybe that itself is an example of survival of the fittest …?  Who knows!

Absolutely – John, I feel we’ve been ripped off- what more could we have had in the way of ‘fruits of their talents’  from Amy, Kurt, Janis, Jimi, and more ….. if they had not taken themselves away so soon?
This brings me to wonder if it isn’t too selfish of me to think this way.  Was the pressure of life so much, so painful, these talented people just couldn’t be happy here anymore?  I suppose we’ll never know if these folks actually realized how much their work is and has been appreciated.  Sad.

  • Anonymous

While I’m sad for her death in general, I’m glad she didn’t suffer as most of the victims have on D&D. That said, she knew that drugs could/would kill her. Not going there on her looks.

To be honest. I never heard her sing til today and she has a great voice! That doesnt excuse her bad judgements. The thing that gets me about these popular deaths is the fans that lose all hope when their hero dies. Lets say she had killed herself? There are people that would follow suit and kill themselves.(Kurt Cobain) I’m sure there are some kids that use drugs because of idolizing her and some that’d o.d. for her sake! When your a leader. You have a responsibility to do the right thing for the sake of others.

Wow. I thought they were remaking the “The Rose” there for a minute and Amy was playing Bette’s part. And then I realized that it was real. Uuuughh.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/BTYN5SIVHWNRENFLKYBXYNVYVE Avie

I was raised around older family members, too, and I know what you’re talking about.  People from that generation had a lot of hardship.  My grandmother is a concentration camp survivor (WWII) and my grandfather is a combat veteran (Korea.)  In addition, my mother often took me to retirement homes when I was a child–people liked to hear me sing–and I’d listen to the elderly people there tell me about their lives.  They had such interesting things to say!  Many had been through wars, starvation, disease, deaths of children and siblings.  Their stories mesmerized me.

But I never understood how people with so much to live for–youth, beauty, talent, fame, wealth–could be so stupid as to throw it all away for drugs and/or alcohol.  I can understand why someone who has absolutely nothing would do so, but it isn’t the case with these people.  They lose sight of what matters and I pity them.

Perhaps I am a horrible person at heart, but I’m not sad she’s dead.  I’m not happy, either.  I see no point in mourning or celebrating the inevitable result of anyone’s self-destructive habits.  When I first saw the headline on yahoo yesterday, I thought someone had hacked into yahoo and posted a phony story.  It just seemed too convenient, you know?  It is darkly amusing how people are saying things like, “Ooohh…it’s soooo sad!  She was sooooo talented!” and acting shocked that she came to this end.  That’s like being shocked when a struck match produces fire.

Not trying to be sweet here – I don’t mind what anyone says about anyone else if it is true and may help pothers avoid peril. This is a sad situation indeed.  One I’m tired of watching over and over – for this I say “Good riddance”
Ky, those in her closest circle had to comply or fly – that’s they way it works.  She says what goes.  No one could tell her what to do, she chose it.  I wish someone could have just ‘seen to it she took care of herself’ but addicts rarely allow for that.  She was amazing when she was well.

  • Anonymous

Ky, there is just something that we lack now in today’s world – some of our Grandparents had it, even some of our parents had it …. and because of society and technology, this generation doesn’t have any SHAME.
People used to behave themselves due to the risks of SHAME.  No one is ashamed anymore – so many people do whatever, and land in a re-hab, hospital suicide ward, jail, it is NOTHING.  People come right out to a family who accepts and cajole’s them like they were an innocent little baby.  No one is embarrassed for acting like an ass anymore.  Sickeningly, in some circles, it seems almost expected for certain people to do so.Yes, we have the same problems our predecessors had, but we don’t FEEL the same about the problems.  We don’t even come close to solving problems as those before us did….getting shit together and acting right …
I think a little shame and shunning could go a damned long way in today’s world….
