Father Accused Of Injecting Young Son With Heroin

CHIMAYO, N.M. — Police have arrested a man after they say he injected his young son with heroin on several occasions.

This all started after the sister of 9-year-old Luke Velasquez’s told her mother that the marks on the boy’s neck came from their father injecting him with heroin. The mother took the boy to the hospital where he tested positive for THC and opiates.

Initially the boy told police that a 15-year-old friend is the one who injected him with heroin, but would later admit that it was his father, Jose Valasquez, who had injected him with the drug at least 10 times. He also told them that his dad let him drink and smoke marijuana.

The sister confirmed her father’s actions and added that her father had offered drugs and alcohol to her as well, but aside from taking drink on one occasion, declined his offers explaining to him that she didn’t need drugs because she had God. Ugh. I once had someone say the same crap to me when I offered her some Boone’s Farm. “What the hell do you know about God,” I asked before I tightened the straps. “You’re fourteen.”

Family and friends of Valasquez say this is all a load of crap. They claim Valasquez is a good dad and these are merely accusations coming from a woman who lost custody of her two children to Jose and is just trying to get them back with lies.

“I know (he) and his ex-girlfriend have had many, many issues through the years. There is some bad blood there. (These are) probably just accusations,” Jose’s cousin said.

But the fact remains that THC and opiates were found in this boy’s blood and the boy and his sister have ratted their father out. Velasquez is looking at felony counts of child abuse and contributing to a delinquency of a minor — and a possible four year prison stint.

The mother is fighting for full custody of Luke and his sister.

Yea I call BS, I would say the mom was involved and is setting the dad up for custody of the children, However the kids have corroborated the story which leads me to believe that he did share his stash.

I really don’t know what to believe here but what Dad would inject his child with heroin? Hard for me to believe it is true.

So, why had the mother lost custody to begin with? There HAS to be a reason the courts originally thought the children would be better off with their father instead of their mother as even though there are more fathers raising their children now, it’s still extremely rare for a court to deny custody to a fit mother.

Something feels off about this story, and at this point maybe both kids would be better off away from BOTH parents. At least until the courts can dig deeper for the truth about the both of them.

I’ve seen children whose mothers were never around them for years, but once “mommy” began showing an interest (usually because of money being involved) would say or do anything to go back to their mothers. Why? Because no matter what, a child wants their mothers love.

The boy is 9. The sister is 10-12 (parents had a 13 year relationship). The piece of garbage dad got custody of the children and that says much about the mother.

Hate to say it, but CPS might be the better alternative. The boy has already started lying for the father. I think this says much about his future if he continues to have contact with his parents.

I kind of agree…wouldn’t a kid die if he was “injected” with heroin? A lot of adults do, if they have not used it in some other form. Now putting it in the breakfast cereal, or making the kid eat it sounds more feasible. Something is off.

Wow… the mother must have been something really bad if they gave the kids to this guy. Wouldn’t they have checked him out in some way before they just handed the kids over? I wonder if the mother set this up b/c of the custody thing. Then again, maybe the father was trying to kill the kid to have one less child to worry about in the custody thing.

I don’t know. My head is spinning trying to imagine the kind of life these kids must’ve had with the two prizewinning parents they were stuck with. JFC, it’s a miracle that they’ve actually survived it. I hope the mother is investigated thoroughly and those kids are put into a loving home with patient caring people. That poor little guy is going to have to deal with some withdrawal I would imagine, and maybe even rehab. I hope they both get some kind of psych help in dealing with this nightmare.

I’m just really glad the little guy is still alive.

why does everyone think that there has to be something wrong with the mother for the father to have gotten custody? Abusive child molesting fathers get custody every day in this country. In fact, most men who try to get custody win. This actually sounds like a joint custody situation anyway, since the mom was able to take the boy to the hospital.

That is a false statement. Men do not win custody if they fight for it. They have to prove TWO things. One: That the mother had a bad environment for the child(ren) to live in. TWO: That their own environment is better than the mother’s. Both of those HAVE to be proven true for the father to win custody. The mother almost always win custody. Even when there is non related man in the mother’s house. I know of several instances where the father tried unsuccessfully to gain sole custody of their children. Even when there was accusations of possible abuse in the household of the mother.
The father contacted an attorney, and the attorney said that he would have to spend thousands to hire him and a PI to prove that the mother’s boyfriend was doing inappropriate stuff to the child.
