Dothan, AL — Kelly Laster, 29, has been charged with attempted murder after police say she left her 3-year old son in a storm drain and went shopping.

According to police, sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Laster placed the toddler in a storm drain approximately 150 yards from the home where she lives with her parents. She and her 5-year-old daughter then walked off to go shopping at WalMart.

Police were notified when Laster’s father woke and found the three missing. Laster and her daughter were found in the store a short time later and the search for the missing toddler began.

The police, grandpa and the neighbors scoured the neighborhood with flashlights for the next 45 minutes. It was grandpa who found the kiddo in the drain.

“I found the little boy myself and pulled him out,” said Homer Laster. “I checked the drain, I woke him up and pulled him out.”

Except for a few scratches, the boy is reported to be in good condition.

Laster was booked on charges of attempted murder and was ordered held on $200,000 bond. If there is a motive behind the abandonment, police haven’t released it yet. Sleepwalking, perhaps?

Homer Laster said in a telephone interview that his daughter is a good person, and he hopes the charges against her are dismissed.

Thank ya, Sister Iroz!

Nothin’ like a shopping spree at Walmart after dropping the kid off at the sitters *cough cough*

“hopes the charges against her are dropped”… did he do this to his daughter that he sees nothing wrong WITH HER TRYING TO KILL HER CHILD, HIS GRANDSON!????

  • Anonymous

the noise inside of storm drains is so soothing for toddlers – it makes it such a wonderful place to put them. if you do not have a municipal-sized  wood chipper handy, that is…

Dismissed? Why? She left him to die

  • Well since finding DD a lot of times I am no longer surprised at what I read. Having said that, leaving your kid in the storm drain DOES surprise me!!! Why not just let him stay in the bed at home?? And the dad must be as dumb as Casey Anthony’s parents “dismiss the charges” ummm ok jerk the baby could have been killed.

  • wyrosjr

I am continually surprised. No matter what people do, they somehow keep one-upping it.

After reading this story , so many questions come to mind.I try to find logic in some of these stories and there isn’t any 1. What did the bitch need so bad, that she was out at 2;am shopping?2. why take the little ones with you.3.If dad thinks daughter is a good person, why did he panic when he woke up and all 3 were missing?4. Why did the bitch get the bright idea a storm drain was a good place to put anything living muchless a child.Generaly the only people who shop at walmart at that time of night/morning are druggies , prostitutes and assorted other weirdos.

does no one find it a little odd that she took her five year old shopping at 3am?  did I read that wrong?  She’s obviously nutso.

  • Hekate

her father thinks she’s a good person??? jeez i’d hate to see his criteria for a bad person…
i suppose one should be thankful she didnt put the little guy in the oven or microwave for safe keeping…
    stupid whore

Yup, no microwave and that makes it almost a feel good story.

Something tells me the son doent feel she’s a good mother! Why the hell would u leave ur child in the damned storm drain while u and ur OTHER child shop at 2 in the friggin morning? BTW, having worked the grave yard shift at Wal-Mart before, I can honestly tell u, that ‘parents’ who bring their children in that late r evil eyed and fucked with.

  • AliceinChainsman =]

    ahh evil eyed!!

  • AliceinChainsman =]

    ONLY the drain clowns…

  • AliceinChainsman =]

hell the smell alone can kill ya

  • She wasn’t trying to kill him, she was leaving him with the clown from “IT”.

Seriously, I’ve very glad that the baby is safe and with grandpa. The mother needs to use all parental rights.

  • Count Rackula

Yeah I think the fact that they even found him is a pretty good ending to the story.

loose not use, your being tricksy again 🙂

I keep wondering if she was going to claim the kiddo got snatched from Walmart, or if she was on her way to dispose of the little girl when the cops caught up with her?

  • Anonymous

Would someone please stop one of these monsters and let me have the baby?  I have a good home, lots of  love, and I can’t have any of my own.  But I promise I’ll treat them just as if I had born them myself.  Anyone???

    Lose. Not Loose.

  • AliceinChainsman =]

    im not choosey 😛

    I don’t get it.Why the storm drain?granted it’s creative but why?

  • That’s what happens when you’re breastfeeding and typing at the same time.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, didn’t IT come out of the drains?

  • Anonymous

🙁 The only thing open around here at 3 am is Walgreens and no one good is ever there to look at (ie- druggies, pimps, prostitutes, and other weirdos).  I’m guessing that she dumped her kid there because there was not a cute little sign to say otherwise. (gotta love the fish saying “yo”).

The IT clown is a good babysitter.

  • Anonymous

Here are people contemplating daycare with him…

  • Anonymous

Not only why- but HOW?  Do the grates come off- toddlers have those big ol heads…Maybe she WD-40’d the kid’s skull down first?

  • AliceinChainsman =]

in many places druggies and the poor, such as myself, steal the gratings for scrap metal..leaving a nice hole, they caught a couple of women around here doing that, taking manhole covers,, cars kept driving into the holes.. i loled

  • AliceinChainsman =]

    or ovens, or couch flying!

  • Anonymous

I think we were picturing those grates on the side of the road-where the curb meets gutter.I didn’t even think about the manholes.

  • AliceinChainsman =]

same thingy. the people remove the bars, and the IT clown sets up a daycare there….

  • AliceinChainsman =]

Well if anyone else here wants to help make  kiddo ill do my part 🙂

For Pete’s sake.  Storm drain!  What a freakazoid. Someone should storm her drain permanently. Who the hell goes shopping with their kids at 2am?

  • Anonymous

Not sure what difference it will make, but I want to hear her side of the story.

Until then all I can say is: “huh?”

  • Drugs. I read about a woman on crack who put her newborn in the washing machine and later swore she’d put her in her crib. The mom here probably was on something and believed she put the baby in the crib and not a storm drain. Would explain the middle of the night shopping with the 5 year old too.

  • Because it looks like a playpen when you’re on drugs.
