Two 11 Year Olds Charged With Sexual Exploitation After Disturbing Images Found On Cell PhoneCHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged two 11-year-olds with sexual exploitation of a minor after images of two younger children forced to engage in sex acts were found on a cell phone.

Police have been investigating this disturbing incident since April after a mother found pictures on her 11-year-old daughter’s cell phone depicting her 5-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old boy engaged in sexual activity.

Police say they recovered over 21 pictures off the cell phone clearly showing the children’s genitals as well as pictures of the two children being forced to perform sex acts on each other.

Dr. Dan Biber, a psychologist,  said the 11-year-olds may have been influenced by sexual images that are prevalent in today’s society (*insert dismissive wanking motions here*), or they may have been victims themselves.

Sorry for wanking on a portion of Dr. Biber’s comment but I just couldn’t help myself. I know that some AP study conducted a few years back shows that the age of sexual offenders have been getting lower over the last 20 years, but I have to side with the people who say this not because of a trend or epidemic, but rather stricter laws, better reporting and more awareness.

Sexual imagery has been prevalent in “today’s society” even back when I was 11-years-old. From Brooke Shields’ Jordache jeans commercials on television, to MTV videos, to titties being shown in PG movies like LOOKER and FORTRESS — both of which HBO liked to play in the afternoons for us kiddies.

Regardless, even if I were to buy that an over-saturation of sex in the media were the cause of a rise in juvenile sexual experimentation of the healthy kind, there’s no way I’d believe it caused a pair of 11-year-olds to force two small children into performing sex acts on camera.

“but I have to side with the people who say this not because of a trend or epidemic, but rather stricter laws, better reporting and more awareness.”

Don’t forget technology.  Access to this kind of media is also fueling the flames.  This wouldn’t have happened when I was 11 because the tech just didn’t exist.

  • Gee

I was thinking the same thing. With all the technology these days it just seems to be more obvious. When we were 11 years old we didn’t have phones to record such behavior. I’m not saying this isn’t disturbing but I think some of this went on back in the day it just wasn’t talked about.

  • Anonymous

Those videos that kids watch of their role models don’t help. They’d have been considered porn when I was growing up. The only people who wore thongs were strippers and hookers. And aside from cable, there’s the Internet, as mentioned. They definitely do have more access to such images and there are far, far more images available. My poor brother had to make do with Playboy and the Sears catalog. I won’t even TELL you what CDs and websites I’ve found my sons viewing as teens. LOL

When I was a teen, there wasn’t even any way to watch such things unless you had an actual porn file reel and a projector.

  • MISSanthropic

So can 11 year olds make conscious decisions about sexuality or not? If they’re getting charged for this, then is it safe to assume they can willingly run away with their 20 year old boyfriend? I’m not saying either are right or wrong, but where is the line?

  • Anonymous

I have to agree with Morbid. Last night the kids and I watched The Incredible Shrinking Woman and I was a little dismayed at some of it.
Well, at first I thought “Holy shit, I didn’t remember the dad sat around reading a book called “Marraige Without Sex” or that the kids got out of bed to sneak to the parents door to listen for when they “did it” or that the dad stomped off in a drunken, sex starved huff after he tossed a sexy Barbie sized piece of nightgown at his 6 inch tall wife”. Then I thought “What the hell was she supposed to do with it when she’s 6 inches? Climb it like a tree?” but that is beside the point.
Sex has always been there. Don’t blame crap like this on television. If you DO think sex in the media is a problem, monitor what your kids watches.
You can bitch about what they put on MTV all day but if your 11 year old is watching Teen Mom, that’s your own damn fault.

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Morbid

But the 11-year-olds were not the ones engaging in sexual activity. They were the ones forcing two younger children into sexual activity. No matter what the age, that isn’t acceptable, isn’t normal and definitely isn’t something they picked up off of tv.

  • Anonymous

In the past and without technology were 11 years olds telling younger children to have sex with each other so that the older children could watch? Very rarely if at all is my thought.

My guess is that ideations of the 11 year olds must have been created by at least one of the two children (i.e., the one who was sexualized). The sexualization could be from porn movies owned by parents or, one or both of the 11 year olds molestation by an older individual.

In reading this article and thinking about the charges these kids might have to face, all I could think was that these child porn laws must be very carefully crafted. I think the current laws were created out of immediate fear and little rational thought.

  • MISSanthropic

Yeah, I see what you’re saying. I just got done reading an article in the forums about the topic I am frustrated about and brought it to this story, which is obviously a bit different. It’s still a sticky situation legally, I think, especially if this was something the 11 year olds learned.

I definitely have never been one to blame the media for children’s behavior. I’ve been watching horror movies since I was 2, and I think I’m ok so far.

If I had had a videocamera/cellphone when I was 11, the worst, most embarrassing thing you’d probably find of me would’ve been my Prince impersonation.  It was bad.  Really bad.  But in today’s world, it probably would’ve gotten 2 million hits on YouTube LOL.

  • Anonymous

I’m not sure it matters.  They made conscious decisions about forcing others to perform sexually, so I think I see what MISS is asking.  Kind of.

I remember back when I used to make my Barbies have sex. But basically they were just kissing and it felt so scandalous. Yep, last week was so fun….

I live in Charlotte and this is obviously all over the local news.I am shocked at how so many people are blaiming the parents allowing their children to have cell phones or internet of why this stuff happens. My daughters are 15 and 10 and Im guilty of letting them both have their own cells and laptops. They as of yet have not abused those priveledges and as parents my husband and I DO monitor everything they do on both.Im more concerned with WHY 11 year olds are evening doing this more so than how they had the technoligy to record it.I try to keep myself very “approachable” to my children and they both talk to me about things they hear about or see .My 10 year old knows what sex is and finds it gross. Her idea of “sexy” is her Justin Beiber poster. It shocks me that 11 year olds are getting “kicks” off this.WHat the hell have they been exposed to?

The problem is as it’s always been:  Parents don’t talk to their kids about sex.

A kid could be bombarded with sexual imagery without incident if they only knew the significance of it.

People like Dr. Dan Biber just drive me bat shit crazy.  It’s not the internet, tv, video games, the media and yada, yada, yada fault.

It’s something so simple and basic.  It’s knowing RIGHT FROM WRONG.

It’s WRONG to force 2 children to perform sexual acts on each other.
    It’s WRONG to rape someone.
    It’s WRONG  to rape animals.
It’s WRONG to: (fill in the blank).

While I’m at it, people should know the difference between AGE APPROPRIATE SEXUALITY and SEXUAL DEVIANCE.

What these 2 kids did was not age appropriate.  It was/is deviant.  Someone forgot to “pound” it into these little deviant’s heads the difference between right and wrong.

when I was 9 or 10 I found my Dads book called a hard act to follow. I read it cover to cover. It was hardcore.  I think that’s about when I started watching my 14 year old babysitter take a shower.  She busted me and that was that. No one ever made an issue of it, and I didnt get caught doing anything again.

kids have internet, laptops, ipods, and cell phones with cameras. Its easy to view porn even with parental blocks. No charging preteens as sex offenders when the kids in-question didn’t come forward to parents, still don’t let them off easy these girls should have to do some kind of sex awareness program. Oh its so nice her mother turned her in instead of just giving her a ton of shit, tough love my ass the mom lucky the cops didn’t charge her with child porn. If it was my kid phone be in microwave and the girl would be grounded for a long time.

Sorry for wanking on a portion of Dr. Biber’s comment but I just couldn’t help myself. ”

Nah, I wank on it, too.

It’s like…yes, of course, we are all creatures who operate through our senses so of course we’re all affected in all kinds of ways by the many many many images we encounter in society. At a basic level, that’s obvious, and it’s the sort of thing I myself have been wont to remark casually upon on various threads over the years.

But Biber’s point, as a “professional observation,” rather than just a casual one, really contributes nothing and is probably just totally calculated to suggest the girls are Not Responsible for their Actions (although it would be good to look into whether they were sexually abused themselves).

–I HATE it when people try to make a firm statement about causality–whether it’s “he watched porn,” “she watched Toddlers and Tiaras,” “he was himself molested as a small boy,” or “she listened to GWAR.” At the end of the day, we are all responsible for what we do. And, besides, people are “affected” different ways by things. Me, I watch Toddlers and Tiaras from time to time just because I think it’s digusting and I like to gawk at the trainwreck. Some loser shithead maybe watches it because the show turns her or him on. Either way, everyone is responsible for his/her own actions in how they respond to the images they see.

–Also HATE the “in today’s” society bullcrap.

She was/is a lesbian (so is Lisa) and they’re still making music (even though they’re not together as a couple anymore).  My love hasn’t waned for Wendy & Lisa (the musicians/their music), though that album before the last one was far too depressing for me (because it was the first one after their breakup and you could tell it affected their normally bouncy, happy music).

Oh yeah, I forgot…all of us on Lisa’s friends page are tasked with promoting their new album, so…go check out “Snapshots”, everyone!  Heh.

That’s o.k., I have something even more embarrassing than that to burn.  And I am NOT tellin’ what it is, but it has to do with me singing/recording something a la Rebecca Black (but it was at one of those kiosks at the amusement parks where you choose a pop song to record…same idea as Black’s venture with that vanity recording studio).

I had a Barbie when I was little, too.  But she was the girlfriend of my Superman action figure/doll thing (it was a Superman that “flew”…you could attach a string to him and he could “fly”)…it was like a Mezco-type of doll, like a G.I. Joe.  But I insisted on getting him a girlfriend since they didn’t have a Lois Lane doll to match, so I had my mother get me a Barbie.  They palled around in an off-brand Jeep vehicle that fit them both and they would have sex in the back, LOL.  I was around 5 or 6.

First off I’d like to hear exactly WHERE & WHEN did these kids think it was ok. In movies & everything they might show dry humping BUT THEY DON’T SHOW blowjobs on tv, not even from behind the heads bobbing so if these kids learned that, where did they get it???

Oversexualized is one thing but to know specific acts that TV/MUSIC/MOVIES don’t show it’s basically someone actually showing this to them. WHO is the question.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE’EM TO THE COPS TOO so they understand the seriousness of it all, therapy so this doesn’t warp their sexual development (they could then associate sex with evilness & as punishment after all the crap they went through) & ground their ass. Also make them apologize to the parents of the victims.

This is serious shit. These kids sexual development could be forming to only enjoy sex if little children are presents.

You’re right! My oldest girl is 13 and *gasp* on Facbook. I am having a hard time with it so I am on her page nearly as much as she is. The thing is she is ‘page happy’. She will ‘like’ everything that shows up on the right side of the damn screen.
She posted on the Teen Mom page something about how stupid the girls were and they shouldn’t have gone that far and they werent ready, bla bla. But in a bratty snotty better-than-you way.
All I could say was that I was proud of her for voicing her opinion, proud of her for views on the subject but that perhaps she could have stated them in a more approriate manner. Because of course she got absolutely trashed by the fans and came off like an absolute bitch.
I was pregnant at 14 so that is something we have discussed frequently. I didn’t have a mom to speak of and I struggle with making sure she has just the right amount of freedom to make the choices and mistakes teens are supposed to make verses “OH MY GOD PLEASE DONT BE LIKE ME”.

Something that really freaks me out is that our cable provider has no shame. Push ‘guide’ on the remote and between the first 50 channels and the Discovery channels are the porn channels. Not an issue normally except the titles are there! “Hot slut is hungry for You!” “I Was a Teen MILF” “Dirty Girl Gets Spanked”… Shit like that. I can talk to my girls about sex and good touch/bad touch and we say vagina and breasts and penis but I have NO CLUE what to do when we are scrolling past that section of the onscreen guide.
