Father Threatens Woman At Birthday Party When Kids Don’t Get Cake

Memphis, TN – Police arrested a man and charged him with aggravated assault after he allegedly used a gun to threaten the host of a child’s birthday party because his children didn’t get any cake or ice cream.

Joseph Hayes, 48, became upset and yelled at the woman because “Y’all didn’t save my kids no damn ice cream and cake.” Not content with mere words, Hayes solidified his status as a jackass by traveling back to his apartment and returning to threaten her with what appeared to be a handgun.

According to the woman’s report, Hayes came back to the party and approached the woman. He lifted up his shirt, showing what appeared to be a handgun tucked in his waistband and uttered this completely justified and reasonable statement: “I ain’t scared to go to jail, just take care of my kids.”

Of course Hayes was arrested at his apartment a short time after the woman called 911 to state she had been threatened and was in fear for her life. Hayes told police that the object he carried was not an actual gun, just something that looked like one. Police have yet to recover the object in question and Hayes is being held on $30,000 bail.

Let me say I completely understand Mr. Hayes’ feeling on the situation. I too would much rather go to jail than not have my kids (if I had kids, anyway) bouncing off the goddamn walls for the next six hours.

Ice cream cake IS pretty good (especially the little brown crunchies in the middle)…still may have been easier to just get one at Shop Rite. Guess this muthafucka never heard of Betty Crocker.

I live in Memphis and am thinking I may just start carrying around extra cake and ice cream in the car-this guy will not be locked up for long and you just never know when he may go bat shit crazy again. Feel the need to be prepared.

I wonder if the reason they didn’t get cake or ice cream is because they came to the party uninvited. Sounds like they may have been doing the kids party outside at the apartment complex and kids may have just showed up. I have had that happen before, even with popsicles. Neighbor kids that don’t associate with my children showing up for handouts when they have a treat. It always irritates me. Or, as someone said in the comments of the original article, they showed up extremely late to the party after that part was done.

My daughter had her 2y.o. b-day party on Sat. My mother in law couldn’t come cause her foot was the size of a watermelon (& she has cankles when they’re NOT swollen).

The cake was chocolate with white frosting which the birthday girl didn’t touch. We had about 1/2 of the cake left over & I didn’t offer ANYONE some to take home. Now, why was I being so stingy with the cake?HER FATHER. He ate the entire left over half before 9pm THAT SAME DAY. If I would’ve given ANY left over to someone, he would’ve very politely asked for it back.Cake is serious.

With this kind of incident, it threatens the people in the party.
Hopefully it will not be happen again. Safety must be
