Father, Stepmother Charged With Murdering Boy Forced To Live In Dog Cage

Gary, Indiana – Thirteen-year-old Christian Choate was murdered in April of 2009, but it wasn’t until this week that anyone outside his immediate family knew about it. Now, Christian’s body has been discovered, and his father and stepmother have been charged with murder in connection with his death.
In 2005, Riley Choate got custody of his kids. I don’t know how or why, but apparently he stopped allowing visits with the childrens’ mother, Aimee Estrada. He then moved in with Kimberly Kubina. Almost immediately, Christian was accused of molesting a male relative – probably because Kubina and Choate are liars as well as sadists. Christian was tied to a bed and slapped, and soon became the targeted child, the “bad kid” who was abused while the other children were treated fairly well. I mean, if treating the other kids well means making them beat their brother and record it on video.
Over the next several years, Christian was bound to a bed frame, gagged, starved, locked in a dog cage, beaten with metal pipes, and who knows what else. Eventually the abuse escalated until Christian was called “the dog” and left in a dog crate full time. The crate was kept in the front bedroom of the family trailer – they’d just gag the kid with a sock and some duct tape and throw a blanket over it if Grandma came over. Christian’s older sister Christina, now 17, was put in charge of Christian’s “care” and taught to beat him if he disobeyed. By 2009, Christian’s wardrobe was a diaper and a gag and he could barely stand.
On April 4, 2009, Riley Choate couldn’t get Christian to eat, so he pulled Christian out of the cage, punched him in the head repeatedly, and threw him back into it. The next morning, Christina woke up and tried to get Christian to eat some cereal. He wouldn’t or couldn’t, so she slapped him and locked him up again. Sometime later, the girl realized that Christian was not breathing and called her stepmother and aunt for help. She and another girl attempted CPR, but failed – Christian had been delivered from his Hell for some time by then.
The elder Choate and Kubina had Christina wrap Christian’s body in a yellow blanket and two trash bags and secure it with duct tape. Choate and Kubina then put Christian’s body in a storage container, left the trailer, and buried him in the ground under a nearby storage shed, covering his body with lime and – get this – resting a Bible on his chest. A BIBLE. Because that’s appropriate when you’ve tortured and killed your child – send him to eternity with a book you’ve never read. Then they covered the whole mess of vomit-inducing dysfunction with a layer of concrete and went on home like nothing ever happened, telling the other kids he “ran away”.
To the older kids, who knew what had happened, Kubina said that Christian’s “running away” was a “family thing and we’re going to work through it. This goes to the grave.” And of course, being kids, none of the kids said anything, because hello, who wants to be next in the cage? Except the older sister, who managed to talk to her mother this year – two years after Christian’s death. Aimee Estrada asked about Christian, and the sister told her. Everything, including her own involvement. To which Estrada responded by calling the police.
Just last week, Riley Choate led authorities to Christian’s body, resting peacefully under a cement slab at the Colfax Mobile Home Park in Gary. The dog cage and some video equipment were found in a storage unit and Kubina’s home in Kentucky. It appears that some episodes of abuse were recorded, because it’s not sick enough to just murder your own child over a three year period – you gotta have video, apparently, to get the bonus Hell points. So plus fifty for video, and plus another hundred for involving your other kids in killing their brother, Riley Choate. So far I think we’re up to eternal damnation plus almost infinity, here.
Riley Choate is now charged with murder, battery, neglect of a dependent and criminal confinement and is being held on bond. For her part in this monstrosity, Kimberly Kubina is facing the same charges. Riley Choate pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of removal of a body from a death scene, failure to notify authorities of the discovery of a dead body and failure to report a dead body. I’m betting on a “Christina did all of this and we couldn’t stop her, 15 year old girls are soooo scary” defense. I’m so disgusted by this one, I can’t even.
