New Orleans, LA — A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged with raping his 85-year-old grandmother, who also happens to be a double amputee.
The suspect is not named because of his relationship to the victim, but he has a lengthy history of drug arrests. His father left him alone with his grandmother, and that’s when when he allegedly raped her repeatedly. She was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault exam, but the results of that exam have not been released.
Police booked the grandson on Wednesday, charging him with aggravated rape and exploitation of the infirm. He faces a life sentence for the rape charge and a maximum 10-year sentence or $10,000 fine for the exploitation charge. So far, the man has not admitted guilt, stating he did not sexually assault his grandmother.
His rap sheet dates back to the late ’80s and includes arrests for possession of marijuana and crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute both drugs. In 1997, he was sentenced to three years of weekend stints in parish prison for crack possession.Tags: amputee, Crime, grandmother, Louisiana, Rape
