Father Gets 10 Years For Closing Infant In Freezer While High On MethPhoenix, Arizona -- Last year, Jaded posted about Chance Kracke, the tweaker who placed his infant inside a freezer while high on meth. The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to the two counts of child abuse and now Judge Robert Gottsfield sentenced him to ten years in prison and probation for the rest of his life.

Kracke told police he was doped up on meth when he thought it would be a good idea to put his son in the freezer and closed the door because the floor was too dirty for him to sit on. He then told them he removed the baby (anywhere from three to 20 minutes later) when the infant started to cry.

Luckily the boy only suffered lacerations to his head, which doctors say could have been cause by the freezer door or a shelf.Father Gets 10 Years For Closing Infant In Freezer While High On Meth

The boy’s mother, 26-year-old Leann Kracke, did not call police because she says her husband threatened to harm her if she did. It was the boy’s grandmother who called 911 after seeing her grandson’s injuries.

When police arrived at the couple’s apartment they noted that it was filthy with tra’sh, dismantled electronics, sharp objects, alcohol within reach of the children, cockroaches running around and the strong smell of feces and urine.

Leann pleaded guilty last month to two counts of child abuse and possessing drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to lifetime probation.

In court it was revealed that the couple, who also have a 14-month-old daughter, had been smoking meth every day for a month and a half up until the August incident.

Oohhh first comment! I’m usually to chicken to try a first comment! I have to say most of the posters on here have me impressed on your eloquence and usually prefer to follow up your comments ( no really, no sarcasm, I seriously mean it!)

This guy scared me when the story first came out. I mean what reason can a “SANE” person have for placing an infant in a freezer!? I’ve raised my brood of five and watched as they have started having families of their own and not a one of them has ever considered placing a child in a fridge or freezer or any kitchen appliance. They pretty have it straight in their minds ” okay, this is a crib, this is a bassinet, this is a car seat” etc. This man should never be around children EVER again! (sigh we can only wish)

Is the mom being charged? Wonder why the baby and any other children are now? Meth Mommy and Meth Daddy make me shudder.

I was thinking the punishment a little harsh until I saw he put his son in for almost 20 mins. After reading that I think 10 years is enough time to think about what could have happened.

Actually I think the sentence is a little harsh. Probably the possibility for parole in two years based on his attending rehab for drug classes and successfully completing that program and parent responsibility classes… with lifetime parole.

Would the guy have done this while not on meth? Probably not.
Should the wife be granted custody of the child without completing similar programs? Probably not.

“the couple..had been smoking meth every day for a month and a half..”

That’s not really surprising, since that’s what addicts do. To their credit, at least they’re consistent.

i think so too, it is a bit harsh, especially when you see pedophiles and people who are intentionally harming babies get way less…If he truly is sane when he is clean maybe a good year and some rehab this could very well be the wake up call this family needed to get clean….. a decade though… wow! the kid will almost be a teenager the next time they have interaction… this might be a bit much, here in a SC we have a man who pleaded to manslaughter after he choked a mother of four to death in front of her youngest and only got five and was out in two in half… so maybe we could have really helped this family in a different way.

Looks like this POS spends more time and attention on his mustache then his kid.

    Tweakers = dead weight

I am wondering if they’ll give the babies back to the mother, seeing as she only got probation. Hope she is required to do drug rehab and clean herself up before that.

I’m wondering if there’s more to it… The kid had injuries from this that grandma noticed much later. I’m pretty sure I could put an infant into a freezer for 20 mins without causing lasting injury. I’m thinking dad was smacking the kid around, too, but only the freezer incident was interesting enough to make the news.

His mugshot looks like a stock photo of what a menacing tweaker looks like.

of course they gave the kid back…don’t they always??? So it can happen again and eventually we will be supporting their asses in prison… no way in hell I would be scared enuff of ANY man to allow something like that to happen. Neither one of them deserve children.
