More Trial Delays In Case Of Rowan Ford

December 13, 2010 at 8:38 am by

Stella, MO – We got an email the other day asking why there were a lack of updates from us regarding Rowan Ford, the 9-year-old girl who was raped and murdered by Christopher Collings and her step-father, David Spears. The reason for that is because there really isn’t anything to report aside from more of the same, meaning there has been yet another delay. Collings was supposed to see his day in court on January 13, but continued challenges to possible prosecution evidence and other trial procedures caused a judge postpone the trial until April 7. His defense attorneys are arguing that Collings’ confession is not admissible in court.  It’s going to be an interesting trial as Collings and Spears both admit to killing Ford. Collings said he abducted Ford from her home, a trailer owned by Spears where she lived with him and her mother, and brought her to his trailer in Wheaton where he raped her and then strangled her before dumping her in a sinkhole. Spears said he arrived at Collings’ home to find Collings’ raping his stepdaughter and decided to participate rather than stop the assault and that he was the one who strangled Ford before dumping her body in the sinkhole. Spears is still scheduled for a jury trial in August. Hard to believe it has been three years since we posted the story and that after reading the details again while putting up this article, it still gets to me like no other story we’ve ever posted.

It is cases like this that make me a strong proponent for vigilante justice. There is no need for a trial – no reason to waste resources on these scumbags – they just need shot and done with.

This story weigh’s heavy on my heart thinking of little Rowan’s last moments. Looking up at this scary man as he was doing whatever he wanted to do to his helpless victim, And then seeing step Dad walk in and the gut wrenching feeling that must have came over her as she realized he was not there to help. This is a truly sad story.

Morbid, Is the death penalty being sought by the D.A.?? I certainly hope that it is because slime like this do not deserve to live on our tax dollar.

The only reason I need to comment here is because you both expressed my thoughts exactly. (Though I never have been one much for vigilanteism, this situation makes the traditional route to “justice” seem that much more odious.)

Simlpy clicking “like” won’t do it. Kill them, let it be painful, let those who loved her find some peace…

Zahra Baker’s case has had me thinking of Rowan, lately. The depth of betrayal, the vulnerability of the victim, the heinousness of the assault all feels really similar. Thanks for the update.

I wish there were, on this date, more forward movement on this case, but I guess I understand why this one is going to take so long. I can only hope that the time will mean a greater likelihood for convictions and “appropriate” sentences. I came to D’D after the case originally was posted, but I’m with Morbid…this is one that either won’t let go of you…or maybe you just can’t bear to let go of it.
