Man Charged With Submerging Baby Upside Down Into Scalding Water

Rosemont, IL — Here’s a horrific case of child abuse that’ll knock your ass right out of the holiday spirit. A 33-year-old man is in jail on $200,000 bond after being charged with submerging his 17-month-old stepson’s face in scalding water, causing second-degree burns. After doing a bit of heroin and getting into an argument with his wife, police say Santiago R. Minjarez got aggravated at his stepson’s crying after the boy’s mother left the house. He admitted to holding the kid upside down by his legs, one of them still in a cast from a previous injury, and placing his head in the hot water running from a bathtub faucet. Realizing that this was not working, he then held the boy’s head under 2 or 3 inches of water in the bottom of the bathtub. Realizing he just burned the crap out of the kid, Minjarez tried getting help for the boy by taking him on the CTA Blue Line which did not get him to a hospital, but rather the O’Hare International Airport. At that point he finally called his wife who picked him and her son up and rushed to the hospital. The infant suffered second-degree burns on his face and eyelids which caused his eyes to swell shut. He is recovering, but may require skin grafts to his face. Minjarez was arrested Wednesday after showing up at the hospital. He had been escorted out by security on Tuesday because he was upsetting his wife. He was charged with aggravated battery of a child. Minjarez is no stranger to jail, having served time for burglary, arson and of course, domestic battery.

I wish women weren’t so FUCKING needy. A 17 month old step son? Even if they got married only a little while ago, it’s still barely a year after she had a kid by another man. I can only imagine the stress that single motherhood must bring, but that doesn’t justify running into the arms of and marrying the first piece of shit that wanders by.

Just in case this isn’t lesson enough, she should probably deal with some charges just to hammer home the fact that leaving your child with bad people is illegal… even if that bad person is your husband.

That poor little baby will probably be scarred for life because the mom was to selfish to put her child first. It is a shame that I have had to constantly say the same thing over and over again but I will do it again. Ladies with abusive boyfriends if they beat you they will beat your children. The only purpose that child serves to them is possibly a little child support money or a public assistance check every month. And sadly sometimes as a sexual surrogate when you are not around.

Maybe it would be good to start charging these mother’s with failure to protect so that they can be examples to other women before they make the same foolish mistake. Whether or not she takes this man back she has demonstrated that she makes poor choices and will probably meet the nest loser at the jail when she goes to visit her man.

Ive been lurking here a few weeks now looking through the archives and I cant believe how horrible people can be to kids. Even high I don’t undertand how a person could think hm scalding this childs head seems like a smashing idea! I have three little boys aged four two and seven and they drive me out of my mind most days but good god its worth it to see them growing and learning and watching my oldest boy try his hardest not to laugh at me when im yelling at him until I give up and laugh with him. Kids are the epitome of unconditional love and it kills me to read some of the horrible things there children live through and die from at the hands of people who don’t deserve to breath the same air as these kids. My sister asks me why I read this stuff when it makes me so mad and all I can say is at least there is someone to be angry and heartbroken for these children when they are failed by the people who should be devoting their lives to them and their happiness. Heartless pieces of waste.

I blame the mom for leaving her child with him. If I were fighting with my husband and decided to leave, I would not leave my kids with him. And they are his kids. I don’t leave my children with someone who is angry. I have too much fear in me to put my kids in a situation that may risk their health or life.
And what is up with all these people using scalding hot water on children. Is this a new fad or what. If you’re going to be cruel to a child, why not use cold water. At least you won’t cause permanent physical damage.
Or maybe people should stop using drugs if they have children, and treat their children with love and compassion like they should be doing. Learn patience, get counseling, fucking do something.
And don’t leave your children with drug addicts and abusive assholes. (even if they are your husband)
Or better yet, don’t leave your kids behind when you leave after an argument.

@Kimberly Hanselman: That’s a bit harsh and unwarranted to say about the mother. He did it, he’s being punished. I’m sorry in a lot of cases of abuse the abuser has multiple different attitudes and personality depending on who they are associating with. The mother wasn’t there and rushed to his aid as soon as she found out. If she knew about it, and didn’t give to fucks she wouldn’t of even took him for medical care. Abusers aren’t stupid, they know if they act a certain way they may lose relationships in life. That’s why they hide it and random shit like this happens. Fuck him, he’s a waste of life. i can’t even imagine knowing that happened to my son. He wouldn’t need handcuff’s he would need a fucking body bag.

I love when people commit crimes and then always mention drug/alcohol as a factor. Nothing warrants physical violence even if you were intoxicated. He knows right from wrong he knew what he was doing. therefore if 2012 happens I will add him to my already very long laminated list of people to style on.

i compare this with pedophiles just because i think if you have the desire or urge to do something like that, that you know is fucking wrong it’s NOT ever going to go away. There’s no excuse for niggerassrapingjewspic’s to be rehabilitated so they need to just “taken care of”

Why are there so many stupid mothers in this world? The kid was 17 months old and she was already married? I was a single mom from the start because my son’s father left me while I was still pregnant. I didn’t even go on a date til my son was nearly three. I was too busy being a mom to worry about dating. Yes, I do think this makes me better than her. I won’t date a guy with any kind of criminal record let alone a violent one. And then to leave him alone with the guy when he’s angry? Even if she couldn’t have predicted that he would do this did she really think that a 17 month old and an angry person were a good combination. She should be charged also. She knew of his violent criminal background and that he was using heroin in the home with her child. I hate this. That poor precious baby.

@Celia De`Averrett: Regarding your racial slure (niggerassrapingjewspic), the criminal is obviously not black nor does not have a Jewish name. He does appear to be latino, but given the history of child abusers ethnicity on this site alone (and there, as we know, are many more news type sights), Blacks, Jews, and Latinos are not the only ones who commit crimes. You might have included “white trash,” but that might have hit a little too close to home.

The toddler had a broken leg. Who do you think broke the kids leg? The boyfriend or the mother? In either case leaving the child in the mother’s custody is questionable.
