Pasadena, California – Some of you watching or reading the news yesterday were probably aware of an Amber Alert issued for 3-year-old Dylan Kurihara. He is the boy who was last seen leaving a wedding reception with his father, 23-year-old Joe Kurihara, in a silver Lexus RX 300 on Saturday night. When the mother had not heard from either of them for hours she started calling police stations trying to locate them. Turns out that Kurihara had been arrested for public intoxication hours after he left the wedding reception. The problem was that he was walking at the time of his arrest and did not have his son, nor were police aware the boy was supposed to be with him. Even worse, once police were notified, Kurihara had no recollection of ever having his son with him in the first place. Luckily, before I was able to type up the story regarding the search for the missing toddler, he had already been found. On Sunday night, searcher Rowdy Metzger located the boy sleeping in his car seat inside his father’s vehicle parked in a parking garage. Kurihara is currently being held at the Pasadena city jail on a charge of resisting arrest but may be facing abandonment charges.

What a fucking dumbass ! He is so lucky … This could have ended with another dead baby !

Maybe facing abandonment charges???? Sounds like someone needs a rehab and a big ass wake up call.

A lesson to be learned. Stop drinking. Or leave your children at home. Thank God the boy was ok. Sometimes we just don’t know our limits. Been there done that. (Being honest)

All’s well that ends well, …and all that

  • Gee

Why would the mother let her son leave with his drunk father from a wedding reception? Just saying

Alcoholic blackouts are so much better when you don’t wake up in a jail cell afterward.

Well maybe he’ll get his when he’s old and frail and his son “loses” him in an old folks home.

This story was on the news non-stop. His poor mom and grandmother were frantic it was so sad. I’m SO happy it ended well. The boy was found asleep in the car in a parking garage, strapped in his car seat. YAY!

The reports I heard last night they kept saying it was a Lexus SUV – I thought those would be high-end enough to have a GPS they could have used to track/find it before someone came upon it – that seemed odd to me.

Anyway, I hope Dad truly takes this as his wake up call and realizes how lucky he is that his son was not injured or killed. I’m sure the Courts will be nudging him as well.

BTW – I was only half-listening to the reports, but I think they said it was a parking attendant who saw the dad leaving the reception and said he was swerving and obviously impaired but heard I nothing about them taking any action to get the license plate # or contact authorities…nice…I swear if I took no action I sure as hell wouldn’t allow my dumb ass to be interviewed for the news later…

he’s lucky it wasn’t an 80 degree day parked in the middle of the street.

That was really lucky for both of them! That guy needs to grow up before he kills his baby. If I was the mother, he wouldn’t have a chance to though. He might want to stay his ass in jail. Might be safer for him.

Weddings are the newest in a long line of dangerous activities for children. Better get babysitters if you can’t keep off the sauce or are too busy to remember who is responsible for the kid.

    That’s what I want to know….

There speaks the voice of experience…

A babysitter that will stay the night, or keep the kids for the night, cause if you come home all hammered, stupid shit can still happen.

So glad this turned out ok, but how sad for the boy to be stuck in a carseat for an entire day.

I want to know how a 23 year old with a 3 year old kid is driving a silver Lexus RX 300??

  • pain4anangel

I think this is an awful situation…but I am kinda proud of the guy for being coherent enough to strap the kid into the carseat. I’m sure he doesn’t remember doing it, but had he been driving, at least the little boy wouldn’t have been all over the place. I am very glad they found him safe and sound. Daddy needs the 12 Steps.

I totally agree with you too Wildheart. A Lexus & 23 & a dad…day-yum. I’d like to know his secrets (besides the booze).

    Drug money maybe?

This story chopped in pieces is great. Kid was found strapped, sleeping in his car seat. Dad was drunk & walking home.

Together they are a nightmare… how tha hell do you not remember your kid… he must of started drinking BEFORE picking the kid up if he couldn’t remember he had him in the first place. BTW it shouldn’t be abandonment if he can’t remember, it should be child abuse b/c there’s many stories of children being locked in carseats & then strangling themselves to death trying to get out of them…

He’s pleading not guilty? Doe he think anyone’s going to believe this is somehow not his fault?
