FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – People eating their lunch at Hooters and Fat Tuesday on Fort Lauderdale’s beach were witnesses to the horrific end of a domestic dispute as a man opened fire on his sister before turning the gun on himself. Police say that Juan Alicea Orozco, 23, and his sister, 25-year-old Jesnishia Alicea Orozco, were visiting their mother at the Beach Place cigar stand where she works at the main entrance of the beachfront shopping and entertainment complex. The siblings were arguing about money and living arrangements stemming from Orozco’s landlord having begun proceedings to have him evicted from a rental property. Their mother told police that after she turned away from the pair she heard multiple shots. When she looked back she saw both of her children laying on the ground in a pool of blood. “”He just leaned over … and shot two more shots into the girl,” said witness Lori Podewell, a tourist from Illinois. Both were taken to Broward General Medical Center where Juan would die shortly after arriving. His sister would die later that evening.

How sad. I would love to know more of the situation here though. Why would he kill his sister and not both her and his mom? At least he knew how to kill himself right I suppose. Poor mom. :(

  • SpitefulScorpio

Wow…. I’m 15 minutes away and never heard about this. How horrific for the mother and sister. So sad.

It’s being reported that he and his sister were arguing about money and living arrangements. His landlord was evicting him. He was also involved in 2 child support disputes (one in 2008 & one in 2009).

I feel so bad for the Mom. Wow

  • guillotinegirl

Seeing something like this would be the only thing worthwhile about eating at Hooters.

I liked this comment because of how true it is.

LOL! I wouldn’t know, and will never know, but: allegedly the wings are good.

  • aka jas

Holy shit, poor mom. Talk about heavy heart and guilt.

  • Gee

Wow… Mom loses both children in one horrific event in front of her. Too much to comprehend

  • PinkiGreen

Hmm. I don’t feel too sorry for the mom. She raised them after all.

  • soplisako80

Wow could even imagine the pain I would feel if I witnessed one of my children killing the other. I do feel sorry for the mom to lose your children right in front of you is about the worst of the worst!

  • Kwumey

Mom won life’s lotto ticket that day

  • Crimsonsorrow3

Damn. The son had serious problems apparently. Maybe drugs?

  • Crimsonsorrow3

Not to mention, I would hate to be at that funeral. People are probably goin to talk so much shit about the mom : (

Many lives would be saved if they would reverse the order of the kills in these murder/suicides.

  • Gee

I can’t figure out how you can make such assumption! There is not enough in the story that tells you mom didn’t raise this kids right. Maybe the son was mentally ill. That doesn’t have to be moms fault.

  • Parrot Toes (kathybird)

Yeah, that is pretty cold and assumptive. Do you know something that you’d like to share?…..

Only if I could extra ranch for my buffalo chicken sandwich. And a full glass of tea.

    A falsehood.

Oh, good, so I’m not missing anything. I can always look at my own tits, anyway. Or yours. When I’m outside your window. Like I am right now.

Does the breast pump do it for you, baby? You naught girl, you. ;)

Oh, and since I’ve got you there… mind telling me how my Halloween display looks? I don’t normally stop at two pumpkins, but with it being a balcony, I thought any more would be overkill.

  • Anonymous

Baby, I’m not gonna lie, you got some great pumpkins on ya. Very shapely!

We only have 2 pumpkins so far, and they’re both really weird. One is a white pumpkin, and other is light pink! They are speshul pumpkins. But this weekend we’re going to a local haunted hayride type place where you take away all the pumpkins you can carry in your arms for $15. Monsieur Sugarglider shall be loaded up like a cot-damn burro! We’re having a big party Halloween weekend, so we neeeeeed them. Although if I stop to think about hungry people I feel guilty for using food as decoration. . .hence, like, I don’t think about it.

  • estebanito

People….this is what you get when you raise entitled self-important selfish children and give them everything they want!

  • Athena

Light pink? I saw one at the local farmers’ market today that was very rustic looking… almost bought it. I’d have to pick it up if it was light pink. Nope, this is my first year in 4 that I’ve been in an apartment, so we got two huge ones, but I’m on the fence. We’ve got acres of orange lights from our old house, so you can see our balcony from SeaTac airport, I think. We’re not doing a big party on account of the new babe, but we are going to go super old-school for Halloween night, throwing a modest party with candied apples, popcorn balls and b-horror from at least 20 years ago. :P

American holidays are NEVER the time to think about hungry people. Never. None of them.

  • Anonymous

It’s a gorgeous light pink, and it has nubbly light brown bumps on it. Uh, they look like peanuts that are still in their shells. Damn, that sounds hideous, I know, but apprently it’s supposed to look that way, and it IS a cool-lookin’ pumpkin.

Your Halloween plans sound great, actually. All Halloween plans are good. It’s just a fun holiday, no matter what you do with it.

Tell that to my husband. I’m about to pop a kid out & we’re building approx. 3 motorized halloween props with sounds, lights & gore all around plus what we have from last year. We started the last 4days of Sept. I’ve become the Martha Stewart of gore around the town (small town in the middle of a big Canadian province) & people stop at our yard to take pics with our front yard display.

I’ve been warned, next year we’re going all out & making a maze from the front to the back… including a toxic swamp (we have a backyard pond that’s like 8ft. long & 4 1/2feet deep).

I wish I lived in an apt.

This dude seemed to me like he wasn’t fighting with his sister enough to kill her but the fight made him snap & she was the first to take out.

Thank God, he didn’t go on a shooting rampage before offing himself.

  • Parrot Toes (kathybird)

This is just another assumptive, unfounded comment. Can you back that up with proof?

p.s. the thing with buying a lot of Halloween stuff is that you feel totally obligated to use it again year after year. . .and to ADD to it (hence your maze and toxic swamp!). It’s a neverending spiral of Halloweeness once you get going (same thing with Christmas decorations for some, I guess). On the other hand, your kid will be very cool and popular!

  • Anonymous

We usually make our stuff (find examples from the net or horror movies) & this year we’re retiring the 8ft tall Grim Reaper we made. Ironically our house doesn’t do Xmas. It all started in the 2nd grade when my husband went to the bathroom to cry cause Halloween was over.

I however, was one of those scaried-of-everything kids that could not watch for the life of me Chuckie, much less IT.

  • Canuck Gramz

I feel for this mom – and the poor customers who had to witness this horror – how on earth do you get on with life when something like this happens? I agree – I wish murder suicides reversed the order. I will never understand what makes a person snap like this.

You could do what I do – day after Halloween the pumpkins get turned into pumpkin puree after I bake them in the oven. Thence into pies, cookies, and banana pumpkin bread. Yum!

Yeah – I don’t understand why he had to kill his sister too. What a selfish, whiny asshat!

“The siblings were arguing about money and living arrangements stemming from Orozco’s landlord having begun proceedings to have him evicted from a rental property.” … “When she looked back she saw both of her children laying on the ground in a pool of blood. “”He just leaned over … and shot two more shots into the girl,” said witness Lori Podewell”

I say whiny because if he was arguing about living arrangements – and he was the one being evicted – I fully expect part of the conversation was him wanting her to let him stay with her and she wasn’t having it. However, if we get more details on the conversation, and he wasn’t whiny, but with mental issues, I’ll take back the whiny part. Based on the quote, I won’t give up either selfish or asshat however.

I know! But it only works if you don’t carve them. I’d be nervous about bacterial ickiness if they’d been sitting around carved even for 12 hours. What’s your M.O. for this, LeopardLady??

I carve them on the afternoon of Halloween, and then bake them by the next afternoon. Haven’t had any trouble with bacteria – the baking takes care of that I think. Done this a number of years now, not had any trouble whatsoever with bacteria. :) Got two huge pumpkins this year – going to have to start the baking in the morning, heh! I’ll have to cut them in parts to get them in the oven. :)

I bake them at 375F 1.5-2 hours until fork tender. Then scoop out the pulp from the shells and puree while still quite warm. The puree then goes immediately into containers and then into the freezer. If there are bacteria, somewhere along the line they get killed just fine.
