Caleb Steiner To Police: “I have a problem with little girls”

Provo, UT – A woman called police Sunday evening to report that there was a grown man in her 13-year-old daughter’s bed – she could hear him moaning. When police arrived, they found 29-year-old Caleb Steiner still in the teen’s bed – the two were underneath the blankets and the girl’s chest was partially exposed. When asked what the hell he thought he was doing there, Steiner reportedly told officers he “has a problem with little girls.” “They think I am younger than I am,” he said. “And I use that to get the young girls to come to me.” Steiner told police he and the girl had been “messing around” from time to time during their 18-month relationship, but he had no intentions with her that day because her parents were home. Speaking of parents, had I found this dicksneeze under the covers with my kid, he would have been the one on the phone with 911, begging for rescue. Though Steiner claims he had no idea why the girl’s breast was exposed, she told officers they were cuddling and he had touched her. According to police, the teen was emotional and evasive during questioning, and claimed the two were in love – was there a law against that? This isn’t Steiner’s first brush with the law or an underage girl. He was charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor in October of ’09. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, claiming insanity. He was deemed competent to stand trial in September and was set to have his preliminary hearing on that case today. Matter of fact, he bailed out of jail on that case just 11 days before being found in the kid’s bed. Now he’s back behind bars, charged with sexual abuse of a child. Bail was set at $15,000.

It’s a significant 1-2 years, nonetheless. As animals, we are programmed to be attracted to any other human that has the ability to procreate. The concept of “age of consent” is a social concept rather than a biological one. So, while this man’s preferences are socially unacceptable, and he is a proven repeat offender, he is capable (presumably) of rehabilitation, whereas a legitimate pedophile is not. An important distinction, in my opinion.

You’re right in some respects – it’s not hard to tell the difference between a 13 year old and a 30 year old (and those who are fooled often WANT to be), but the distinction between a 13 year old and an 18 year old can be much trickier. I actually stumbled upon my ability to pass as 18 at 13. My best friend and I were hanging out at a local playground when a young man pulled over and approached the fence. He introduced himself and asked if I was 18. My friend blurted out that I was. He responded, “I thought so, but you can never be too careful these days, you know? So I had to ask. I hope you’re not offended.” I just let it go, curious why he was asking. He ended up asking me to his birthday party, and handed me a card with his phone number on it. My clever friend who got me into this to begin with got me back out of it by gritting her teeth and telling the young man that I was her babysitter, and had to babysit that evening. He said he hoped I could make it regardless, but if not, to call him sometime.

I had no intention of calling, but I was a little thrilled by the fact that I just passed for 18. Of course, at 13, I was 5’10″ with a D cup and the ability to wear makeup. I look at pictures of me back then and it was no wonder people thought I was dramatically older than I was, especially compared to my best friend who, at the same age was barely over 5′ and had yet to lose her baby fat cheeks.

At the end of the day, I only used this new-found superpower for buying cigarettes, lol. But had I been more mischievous, I could have easily put a lot of men in legal peril.

I do understand what you’re saying…but I just think that if a guy feels compelled to ask, then he shouldn’t be looking at all. I developed early too, and of course guys take big notice of that, but what bothers me is that when I look back at pictures from 15 years old…I’m not nearly as mature looking as I thought. Teenage girls are inherently sexualized. Teenage girls have been sought after since they came into existance – it’s not at all limited to American or modern society. Men that feel their desires are acceptable tend to feel this way because the attraction is natural. And, sure, you and I aren’t trollin’ high school graduations for a date. But it’s apples and oranges. It’s well-documented that the breeding motivations for males and females are substantially different. We tend to look for providers. Significantly younger men tend not to be providers. Males, on the other hand, tend to look for fertility, which is precisely why so many feel compelled to walk that line. We have artificially made girls of that age range off limits (in most states, anyway) – and for some very good reasons – but because this development is fairly recent (within the last 100 years) and is very fluid from one state to another (some states set the AOC as low as 14 in some circumstances), some guys consider it to be bullshit.

Certainly doesn’t help that young women often throw themselves at older men. I had a few friends in high school that absolutely refused to date anyone under the age of 25.

Now, none of this excuses anything, but it does help to explain the behavior. Through legislation, we’re attempting to bend the laws of nature. Unfortunately, this only works so well.

I never said tweens (especially in this day and age) are innocent. It’s up to the parents to teach their kids how to behave like civilized human beings and to intervene when these tweens want to buy slutty clothes, make role models out of so-called stars and act like 25 yo. Until parents start taking responsibility for their kids’ up-bringings and teaching their kids to have self-respect then the adults (male OR female) in this scenario are to be held accountable for taking the bait and promoting this sort of behavior.

I do agree with you on the idea that teenagers have been sexualized for a very very long time. Definately true. But I’m bothered by the fact that as a society we can’t make up our mind how we feel about it. We let 13 year olds act far older then they are, but don’t give them the tools to deal with life as an adult. No sex ed in schools for example. I work with women giving birth and have met more than one teen mom who didn’t even realize it was possible to get pregnant so young, the first time, etc etc. Also I think it’s important to realize that girls used to grow up faster because life expectancy was not nearly ad good as today. Men chose young brides not only because they were more attractive, but also because they usually had better health. Women were treated much like livestock. Women have come a long way and I think that we should keep on pushing to be treated better. Women don’t need to be sexual objects at 14 anymore. I do understand why men have the urges they do, but I think that we should expect them to be held to a higher standard. As I said, I think the nature of things has been changing.

It always burns me so much when I engage in these types of conversation with people who admit that young teens are incapable in so many respects, then those same people argue in favor of charging kids the very same age as adults. We can’t have it both ways… either children or children, or they’re not. If they’re children as it pertains to sex, voting, drinking, etc., they’re children as it pertains to crime, too.

Please, don’t get me wrong… I’m not arguing against age of consent laws, or in defense of men who seek out young girls. The victim in this case would have been approximately 11.5 years old when the relationship was initiated. She may well have been prepubescent at that time.
It would be interesting to know the age of his victim from the 2009 incident.

Unfortunately ( or fortunately?) I could not find Dom’s original post but having read some of her other posts on here I had to respond. I knew of a sweet little girl , who at age 7, was molested by her own grandfather. Her grandmother’s response? She phoned the little girl’s mother and screamed at her, saying it was the little girls fault for “sitting on men’s laps” and the mother’s fault for not teaching the little girl “not to sit on men’s lap”. This little girl – and her whole family was affected their whole lives but the actions of this disgusting monster and his disgusting monster wife! They were VICTIMS. DB remember that word – VICTIM. Look it up in the dictionary if you have to! When a perverted adult has sex with , or acts sexually with a CHILD it is a CRIME and it is WRONG and it is NEVER the fault of the child!! A thirteen year old is a CHILD and anyone who suggests otherwise is part of the problem in this society. Until people like you realize that having sex with a child is not only a crime, but a tragedy that mars the victims for life, our society will continue on with this travesty!

Some of these comments astound me. First off calling a 13 year old a “cunt” or “sluts” come on. They are children that lack parental guidance. They are following what they see on T.V. and presume it to be cool. The fact that anyone would try and defend actions like these is gross and you need to look at yourself in the mirror. There is a great distinction between a 13 yr old and an 18 yr old. Don’t blame it on the fact that you can’t tell, blame it on the fact that you suck at getting women your own age and you have to “dip” into a group that would consider you desirable. Laws in most states keep the ages considered acceptable within the ages of high school students. A 29 year old is nowhere near that and his inability to follow these guidelines should hopefully earn him a spot in prison. If these guidelines are unacceptable to him or anyone else there is plenty of room in countries like Guatemala where it is ok.
