Roseville, MI – Back in December of ’09, Carol Lynn Schnuphase began telling people that her 12-year-old son, Christopher, had leukemia. By all appearances, the kid certainly looked ill – he appeared lethargic, sickly and hairless. And in an effort to help cover the cost of the child’s costly treatment, Schnuphase dragged her unemployed ass around town, soliciting donations from local businesses, church groups and other community organizations. She put on her brave face and paraded her sickly son around to different fundraisers held in his honor. People took one look at the sick little boy and opened their hearts and their wallets, donating nearly $8,000 in cash and gifts. Heh…bitch was lyin’. Christopher wasn’t sick – his momma was just a greedy troll. Not only did she have others convinced her child was ill, she had him believing he was going to die. Police say she intentionally fed the kid foods she knew he was allergic to. She crushed up tablets and put ‘em in the his applesauce to keep him all lethargic and sick. She shaved his head and eyebrows weekly. Had to keep up appearances, ya know. The boy’s aunt, Elizabeth Carmack, said she didn’t think her nephew was sick and called police in June. A medical exam soon followed. Christopher was given a clean bill of health…no cancer, but he was suffering from opiate withdrawal. Schnuphase continued with her bullshit even after the boy was placed in a foster home. She told previous donors Christopher had died and that she needed money for his funeral and burial.

Acting on a tip that she may try to flee, authorities arrested Schnuphase after a visit with her son Thursday evening. When she was taken into custody, police say she had hair dye, extra clothing and her medication on her. She’s been arraigned on charges of second-degree child abuse and two counts of taking money under false pretenses, and bail was set at $100,000 – an amount her defense lawyer says is too high. “She doesn’t have any money,” he said. “All the money in her bank, she was saving up for bond.” Proceedings are also under way to sever her parental rights. Christopher is said to be doing just fine.

Relatives of Schnuphase’s ex-husband, Daryl Carmack, attended Schnuphase’s arraignment last Friday. Daryl was Schnuphase’s third husband. He apparently overdosed on muscle relaxers and died last year, shortly before Schnuphase devised the cancer scam, and now the family wants the prosecutor to investigate his death. “He’s not the first one that has passed away around her,” said Daryl’s sister, Marilyn Carmack. Thanks for the tip, Sister Iroz!

what the hell is wrong with people…. pulling sh*t like this??? And murder….b/c if it walks like a psycho, talks like a psycho…..yup, I think those muscle relaxers were maybe mixed with dad’s “apple sauce’.

Third husband, no wonder…..she’s quite the stunner! I kid…she looks like the f*&king cyclops from Goonies but with hair. *shiver*

  • Parrot Toes (kathybird)

Jeebus! I think this is the new trend of the 2010′s….faking shit for donations.

I wonder if there is a bit of Munchhausen By Proxy in this? Well, hopefully the parental tie is able to be severed. This kid deserves better than this. I’m sure she’s done enough damage to him.

    Un-friggen-real.

holy fuck how sick can you get?i hope they slowly poison her to death in prison or beat her daily, i’d settle for either/both.i hope the little man gets someone to take him in that loves him and treats him right.something tells me you will be updating this case because of the sure to be coming murder charges against the hubby.can’t wait to read that

That poor little boy. He is really going to need some heavy duty counseling after this one. What a thing to plant in the mind of a very innocent person. What the hell is wrong with getting a job to support yourself and your children these days? People don’t seem to get when one does criminal things one isn’t free. One ends up dead or in prison.

I don’t think this is munchausen. But the bitch ought to have every hair on her body hot waxed.

  • Lexismom

Threading for hair removal hurts way worse than hot waxing ….

  • Boughtthefarm

    Threading? What is that?

  • guillotinegirl

You have to be pretty damn heartless to lead your own child to believe he is dying when he’s not. What a bitch.

I feel so sad for this kid. When I was little and still with my mother she would tell men she was trying to rip off that I was sick, then take me to my grandparents for a week and tell the guy I died. Then of course he would help her with the “burial costs”. Let me tell you, that really messes you up as a kid. I was lucky and had a great family to help me…I hope this boy has someone to love him too.

Holy crap! This sounds just like a Law & Order: SVU episode where this woman was injecting her granddaughter with mercury and telling everyone she had leukemia to collect the charity money. When she was arrested, she tried to claim she had Munchhausen’s by Proxy, but that defense fell through when it new evidence showed her to be the con artist she really was. But that was fiction, this is real. Unfortunately:(

I don’t understand how a parent could do such a horrible thing to a child, but apparently, some are quite capable.

ive had the misfortune of having a neighbor who looked just like this cow and who used her 10 year old son to harass people by having him damage their things. She even set him up to make him think things that werent true to get him to dislike people so she could use him as her tool. Disgusting nutso bitches, it’s that plain and simple.

  • Elestialenergies

She shouldnt be let near any sick or vulnerable person.

That poor, poor boy. I just don’t understand how the person who is supposed to love you the most can turn on you like that. This is almost like selling your child sexually; she’s using an innocent, defenseless child to her advantage so that she can receive money…she is the lowest of the low in my eyes. And what if one day his body can’t take it, and the pills she keeps feeding him kill him? No, she didn’t think about that…all she cared about was all the money she was getting and how great things were going for HER

“All the money in her bank, she was saving up for bond.” …. she had to save it at that point, cause she knew she was a gonner!

The Macomb County mother who faked her son’s cancer to cash in on fund-raisers pleaded no contest Thursday to charges of taking money under false pretenses and second-degree child abuse.

Carol Schnuphase, 47, will be sentenced March 29.

Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Therese Tobin and defense attorney Dominic Greco have asked for different minimum sentence ranges, from 7-23 months and from 12-24 months.
    [...]

Members of Schnuphase’s family and her deceased husband’s family have attended every hearing in the case and were disappointed in the plea.

“I think she got off with nothing. It’s not right,” said Judy Carmack, mother of Daryl Carmack, Schnuphase’s third and deceased husband.

Schnuphase’s aunt, Lorraine Kelsch, said the plea was a shrewd move. Kelsch said Schnuphase called her in the middle of the night in June after social services had taken the boy from her home and told Kelsch the boy had died. “It was a good move on her part. She’s brilliant,” Kelsch said.

Greco said his client wants to repair her relationships, including the one with her son. The family court case regarding the 13-year-old is pending the sentencing agreement.

Greco said Schnuphase is in therapy and he will represent her as she tries to keep parental rights.

He said Schnuphase has long talked about paying people back some of the $10,000 in cash and gifts she is said to have received from her church, her community and local businesses.

Unfortunately, there is no law against having a terrible demeanor coupled with dishonesty and deception. However, where is the endangering a child charge for the opiate addiction and theft of public services, defrauding taxpayers fraud and embezzlement? If anyone should have had multiple charges stick, it’s her? She was obviously attempting to Pull an OJ and flee.
I hope she never sees this kid again and he gets all the help he needs to unfuck himself.
