Man Charged With Scalding 2-Year-Old Nephew After Dislocating His Elbow

MADEIRA, Ohio – Police have arrested 28-year-old David Dalton and charged him with doling out some particularly nasty abuse upon his 2-year-old nephew. Police say that Zachary Prather was staying with Dalton and his wife while visiting his cousins. On Thursday night he would not go to bed as quickly as Dalton wanted, so Dalton grabbed his arm and pulled it until he heard a pop. The following morning, Dalton told his wife that the injury was from Zach sleeping on it wrong. They got into an argument and after she left, Dalton took out his anger on Zach. He filled a tub with scalding water and then made Zachary stand in it. Zachary received third degree burns on the top of his foot and ankle, and second degree burns on the bottom of his foot. Dalton tried to cover this up by peeling away the dead skin and pouring peroxide on it. He told his wife the injury was just a blister. Zach’s injuries would go untreated until he was finally taken to the hospital on Sunday. “At the hospital, he was screaming,” said Lt. Zumbiel. “It was horrible to hear him screaming at the hospital, and I can only imagine from Thursday to Sunday, not being treated or being treated improperly, especially with the burn.”

Doctors would note the boy also had multiple bruises and cuts on the lip and above his right eye. Zachary’s family is pretty pissed. “(You) break the baby’s arm on Thursday, and try to cook him on Friday, you know, it’s sickening,” The boy would end up with three pins in his elbow and will now undergo skin grafts to repair the damage done to his foot. Zach’s grandmother said. “And to think he may have done it to his own children is even worse.” Police agree and have removed his children, a seven month old and a three year old, and placed them with relatives. Dalton is in the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $100,000 bond, charged with two counts of felony child endangering. I about cried when they showed the boy’s feet. Dear G-d, what a monster. I am so glad they removed his children and I hope he never gets them back. I also hope the mother kicks his no good ass out for good.

My older half sister was made to take a bath in hot scalding water, when she was 5yrs old. She passed out in the water and her eyelids were “glued” shut. She was put in critical and had burns on almost her entire body. Ofcourse our step-mother said that she wasn’t suppose to get into the water…. Anywho, my sister is all grown up now, it’s a wonder we survived our childhood. Thank goodness painful memories fade some what over time. She remembers it was hot, trying to wash her hair, and just passing out. Since we can’t turn back the clock, I am grateful that my sister doesn’t physically feel the pain everyday. I come here because this site feels so much like home. Crazy, huh?

Missy, that is horrible. Is your step mom still a part of the family?? I always checked my son’s bath water but I really didn’t even have to because he knew how to test it with his feet and he’d promptly jump back out if the water was too hot. Someone has to force a kid get all the way in water that is too hot for them.

This is crazy. I once stabbed a car’s cigarette lighter into my arms a half a dozen times until it cooled and the doctor only gave me some ointment, a therapist’s business card and a weird look. And that was only for second-degree burns! I feel bad for this kid. Burns suck.

I know a friend who was burned down one whole side of her body and she would call me from the hospital and tell me horror stories on her treatment. Everyday they would put her into a tub and scrub her burns I can’t remember why but I do know she dreaded having it done. I hope this little guy heals fast.

The scrubbing or “debridement” of the wound is designed to remove dead or infected tissue to improve healing potential. Infection is the biggest threat posed to burn victim recovery. It’s always been my worst fear, being a burn victim – to undergo the horribly painful treatment only to die of infection three months later. @_@

This son of a bitch will feel the boys pain..when he burns in HELL. I hate this dude and don’t even know him. He has been allowed to breed and has spawn of his own…I wonder how much abuse they have had to endure? Where is his dumb wife and why is she leaving him in charge after arguing about the initial injury? (If that’s what the argument was about). Smooth move ex-lax…take off so the asshole can torture the kid some more. Is there something in the water that makes people so fucking stupid or are they born that way? Whatever the reason is, they have shit for brains.

they have to scrub the dead skin off so that in the healing process, it doesn’t get trapped underneath new layers and rot… At least that’s what someone told me when they thought I had to get scrubbed.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was still young when this happened to a friend and my memory has faded with age. I just remember crying for my friend. She was in so much pain! I think she was like 16 at the time and cried like a baby. I couldn’t imagine how bad it must be for a baby who more than likely doesn’t understand why they are hurting him again. They had my friend on morphine and she kept asking for more so much so they ended up drug testing her to she if see was some kind of addict.

No, my father divorced her about an entire year after that. My sister got out of the hospital and her bags were packed. He left her on the front porch of my grandmothers house without even saying goodbye to her. Great sperm donor. Her mother was a stripper called sunshine. We had an older sister that died because she was born with drug related problems. So she wasn’t around either. Here’s the thing though. Sunshine started to finally try and have a relationship with my sis when she was about 12yrs old. My sister was so excited to finally get to see her mom because she always wanted a parent. Well her mother had left an angry boyfriend and tried to start fresh. He dragged her out of a store and beat her head in with a tire iron. Threw her body in a ditch. He thought he was getting back at sunshine for leaving him, but all he did was devastate my sister.

Thats lil boy is now forever changed.. after undergoing so much physical pain at that age, the emotional trauma could likelyremain with him the rest of his life.if he doesnt receive counseling… Hopefully he wont internalize his trauma/anger and turn it on someone else when he gets older..
So where was the babys Mom during all this?How was she not notified about the initial
“injury”?
