Walmart Employee Sucker Punched By Shoplifters

August 30, 2010 at 7:00 am by

GOLDEN, Colo – Last Friday a Walmart employee had a pretty bad day after having the living daylights knocked out of him by a man who was part of a group of shoplifters. The attack happened after three individuals left through the garden center entrance pushing a cart full of stolen merchandise setting off the anti-theft alarm. When an employee followed them outside to see what was going on, a third suspect punched him in the head from behind…the guy never saw what hit him. Even worse is that the blow knocked him forward, causing him to land on the shopping cart with his face. He suffered serious facial injuries, including a blow to the head, a cut on his nose and black eyes. So far two of the men have been captured by police. Joe David Lucero, 34, and Jose Antonio Cruz, 19, are currently in jail on felony charges and both have violent records. Police would like to get the remaining two off the street. If you have any information on this, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking you call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612.

Let's see here…violent records, back on the street to commit more crimes, Bang, Bang,
    problem solved…….

I hope they get some serious jail time.

People like this just need to be removed from society permanently. There is no place for “people” who steal for personal gain (not from need – as the “cart full of merchandise” clearly shows) and who are perfectly willing to hurt or presumably even KILL anyone who gets in their way.

It's a mentality that CANNOT be fixed, and they should just not be allowed to roam freely among others who could become one of their victims in the blink of an eye.

Goodness.. I am so done with trashy people, you don't even understand. Just get a job and pay for the shit! That's all that guy was trying to do, WORK. Ughh.

I'm a little confused- to me, “shoplifting” is sticking something small in your pocket and not arousing suspicion getting it out of the store. Does brazenly trucking out a cart full of merchandise qualify as shoplifting? To me that's just plain stealing.

(Not that I'm saying shoplifting isn't, of course.)

Perhaps we should be giving the gangstas free time at the shooting range. Every time there's a gang-related shooting around here, it seems like some three year old asleep in her bed gets shot. If these guys had better aim, and actually managed to take out EACH OTHER instead of random bystanders, I wouldn't mind the shootings near as much.

Poor employee…but in all honesty, when I worked retail I sure as hell never tried to stop a shop-lifter and our company specifically advised against it.

Also, I consider myself an oppurtunist, from what I've hear about Wallyworld, they jip their employees so knowing myself I would have snuck a few items in the cart too *whistling*

Nothing says badass like donkey punching someone from the back. WalMart has GOT to start paying $10 by the hour more to those poor employees that get assaulted while working. The others can rot since whenever I need help they are all absent like the sun in the Himalayas.

Once a thug always a thug. I bet these assholes mostly did it for shits and giggles. I am a true believer that sooner or later karma will bite these ass smudges in the butt!!! Poor employee probably now will be gun shy of doing a good job because of violent thugs like these.

These guys all need serious jail time. The thing is, the employee wouldn't have physically stopped them from doing what they were doing. Completely unnecessary, people like this shouldn't be in society.

Back when I worked at The Mart there was an incident in which the Loss Prevention guy stopped a shoplifter. A struggle ensued, the guy ended up on the ground, a manager came over to help. The dude whipped out a box cutter and just started swinging, cut the shit out of both of them. One of the dudes came really close to losing his eye – there was a cut right underneath it – and both of them had to go to the emergency room. Shoplifters at Wal Mart are a special kind of asshole.

If you check certain sites (such as Totse when it was active), the ‘cart-out’ method is a viable way of shoplifting, considering most shops have a ‘do not chase’ policy after you get a certain distance away from the store. If you can do that, then you’re home free (unless they get tape), which is what makes it a viable method.

So yes, it is still considered shoplifting.

I was a retail manager and it was just second nature to me to chase shoplifters because we were told we could NOT lose any merchandise. I was about 5 months pregnant when I followed a shoplifter down the sidewalk who had lifted shoes and had stuffed them in his armpits (I kid you not). The shoplifter turned around and lifted his fist over my stomach like he was going to punch my swollen belly. I was just like screw that, I am not losing my baby over stupid merchandise. If these companies don’t want to hire real security then SCREW THEM.
