BARTOW, Fla. — Timothy Hammerstone, 22, is facing 16 counts of possessing child pornography after he convinced a 10-year-old boy to send him nude pictures in exchange for Xbox Live points. He explained he needed the pics because he was gay and that his mother would not let him look at pornography. the boy agreed and Hammerstone bought him a separate, secret Live account the boy would use to send pornographic images of himself. Deputies searched Hammerstone’s home where he lived with his sister and and found 16 images of child porn on his Xbox. They confiscated the console as well as some computer equipment. His sister feels her brother, who was employed  at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as a AMC Theater concession clerk, is facing an unfair fate. “He needs help,” Sarah Hammerstone said on Facebook. “Other people can go out there and rape and keep doing it and get a slap on the wrist, and [Timothy] is going [to] serve life in prison.” oO. His brother went on to add that the 10-year-old lied about his age. “The kid said he was over 18, and James just found out last night he was 10,” James Hammerstone said.

Parents, if you got a kid online, make sure you are monitoring their activities. If they are using a console, set any available parenting controls. Of course there’s no way to completely protect your kids from predators aside from locking them in a cage, but it will make it a lot harder for people like Timothy to operate.

I don't think I've ever seen a 10 year old that could be mistaken for an 18 Year old. Bullshit! Lock him and throw away the key

  • Boughtthefarm

His sister is stupid. Not all gay men are child molesters.

  • Sugarglider1

Considering the majority of molested kids are little girls molested by men, you are correct.

  • aka jas

    Yes Gee! Exactly!

The xbox is a computer, you have to get vigilant about what goes on in that “world” as a parent. You don't just write that one as “safe” because its geared around gaming.

There is a hand-full of people that need counselling here. Sister of pedo, parents of victim, AND the victim. What is going through a 10 year old boys mind when he sends nude photos for xbox points? In processing that possibility/option, they only option should have been running straight to his parents.

The pedo is broken counselling is no cure.

  • Deety

I think she's saying he THOUGHT the kid was 18, so he's not a child molester.

Like Gee, I've never seen a ten year old who could pass for 18. Like you, I think his sister is a moron.

  • Deety

    Random Xbox story:

I have a couple of Xbox friends who were a lesbian couple. They were in their 30s-40s, had been together a few years, and were set to have a commitment ceremony in a month or two. Until one day one of them said she had fallen in love with another of our Xbox friends- an 18 year old boy from another state. She left her girlfriend, moved back in to her parent's basement, and proceeded to carry on an online relationship with the guy, who she had known online for over a year, and who had turned 18 just weeks before the whole story came out.

People get seriously sucked into that 'world', and (much like the internet) you can easily form connections that can begin to substitute for real life interactions. So, by all means, watch your children's online life, but don't think adults are immune to it, either.

  • UniqueMommy1984

I couldn't agree with you more on that.

  • aka jas

    Speechless. :.)

  • Jury

Ohh boo hoo!!!! Timothy. I bet you never even gave the kid his X-box points.

  • ProudWife05

We have a PS3, we also watch who our kids are online with. We check messages, we will every now and again without any reason take the headset and listen to what is going on in the room that they are playing in. They are not aloud on-line with our say so. They are not aloud to use the PS3 to surf the web. They aren't even aloud on my computer unless I am righ there and can see what thet are doing. And now that school is back in, there are no video games during the week only on the weekend. Yes, I run a very strict house when it comes to my kids. I let them be kids, but there are also rules that need to followed. Mama don't play that shit!

Disney/Florida – What more needs to be said other than yes his sis is an idiot?

  • DeVine

I have a ten year old son who is on live. This is freaky! I talk to my son all the time about stranger danger, even if he cannot see them. I am constantly checking his friends list and his activity. I do everything I can to prevent things like this happening to my children.

  • IntelligentVirtue

lmao!! Am I wrong for wondering if he paid up too?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jamie-Arnett/650941889 Jamie Arnett

so very glad that we dont have xbox live or anything like that..or cell phones, etc.

  • Jury

And to the family, stop making excuses and accept the fact your brother likes little dicks.

  • KyFyre

IF this freak did think the child was 18, why the secret account he bought for the kid? Why the lie about his reasons for “needing” those pics? He's a grown man and could have bought some somewhere. I so call bullshit on his sisters lame excuses for him.

  • KAOS

What he needs is a full grown dick wedged in his rectum, dry, day after day after day after day, I bet the image would then be forever burned into his mind and he wouldn't need pictures. Have fun in prison you fucking piece of shit, hope all your dreams come true

  • Sugarglider1

“Cell phones, etc”? Meaning what, exactly? Is that your computer you are typing on? :-P

  • Deety

Stranger danger isn't really the issue. By the time things get to this point, the kid feels they're interacting with a trusted friend, NOT a stranger. Better to teach him to NEVER, EVER SEND NEKKID PICTURES TO ANYONE, EVER.

  • Dirk

It does seem that kiddie porn is punished a LOT more harshly than rape. Is it because the evidence is more concrete?

  • Deety

Don't you worry that your kids will start out behind their more tech-savvy peers? As heavily as our generation relies on computer skills, their generation will need to be even more capable with them than we do.

It seems more useful (in the long run) to teach your children to use these tools safely than to try to shield them from technology entirely.

  • Deety

Good work! I've made a lot of young teen friends via Xbox, and it always shocks me that their parents have no idea that they're usually playing with much older people. Granted, they play with us old fogeys because we're not annoying and immature (we're actually good influences), but I KNOW that if a fifteen year old girl's parents knew she spent so much time online with 20- and 30-somethings, they wouldn't be okay with it. And since they don't even know about it, they've had no chance to judge whether we're just a bunch of old nerds, or predators.

  • ProudWife05

Oh, how true. My husband is in his late 30's and is a big time gamer. I bitch about it because he works hard and doesn't go to the bars & clubs. You would not believe the young kids on PSN. I'm talking like 5yo! And their parents have no clue that they are playing with a man in his 30's. Than to boot, these kilss are playing like call of duty or battlefield! I mean really, why is a kid that young playing those types of games online with a bunch of adults and parents checking in???? Like I said, I don't play that shit. I have a daughter who is 14 and my step-son is almost 14, I know they are teens, but teens do stupid stuff. I know, I was a stupid teen! LOL

  • aka jas

I often forget / neglect to look at the place. I tend to push some write-ups to the unknown destination of “where everything happen that is bad”. I know, I know. ;.)
I take it you wont be vacationing there anytime soon.

  • aka jas

I thought this would be the “normal” good parent thing to do! I do it too! Good job momma!

  • JGo555

are you f*cking kidding me!? He shouldn't have to face jail time? Are you stupid or special olimpics retarded!? Never mind those athletes kids have better sense than you'll both ever have since HOW CAN A MALE THAT'ST 10yrs OLD PASS FOR AN 18yr OLD EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!? Now I agree that he needs help but it's more about rechanelling his impulses because this dude is broken & can not be fixed cause as soon as he saw the 18yr old body's pics he should've shut it off, deleted them & call the mom of this kid. Sure he would've gotten in trouble BUT he wouldn't have been in this deep hole full of the bullsh*t he dug himself.

BTW, where's mommy if he's now a soon to be convicted paedophile? You both should've been more affraid of being found out by your mom than by the cops about this.

Oh who took the naked pics of the 10yr old? That's someone else that should be going to jail.

  • ProudWife05

Well Thank You. I try my best, I haven't lost a kid yet. LOL

Thing that really gets me with parents is when they let their kids on-line, computer, game system, whatever, and don't know who their child is talking to, playing with, etc. Than when something happens, they are like “Omg! How could this have happened?” I mean, come on people, pay attention to what your kids are doing! Check their MS, FB, find out who they are on-line with the best you can.
    Here's something a little scarey:

My son was on the PS3 going through his friends list. Well, I'm watching and reading who's on there. Well, one name stuck out to me, the screen name was iculookin22. I went to bed that night and out of no where I woke up (in the middle of the night remind you) and woke up my husband. I told OMG! I got it! I know that name. He was all like wtf are you talking about. So, I tod him the name. Here the guys screen name was from How to catch a preditor(sp?)! I got up out of bed and blocked the guy from my sons friends list. I couldn't believe it. IDK if it was the same guy, but I wasn't taken any chances.

  • aka jas

Ewwe yuck! That made my stomach tighten.

The Virtual World is bigger than the actual world. Parents and good humans have to beware! ;.) Seriously.

  • cplpunishment

I actually travel for my Company and have been to Fl. over 100 times in 15
years. The dynamic of then people is perplexingly amazing. I would not
move to Miami for a million dollar company, It was offered in 98.

    k

  • Gee

I come from the good ole days when Your parents just told you: Don't answer the door if it is a stranger, Don't talk to strangers. Jesus now it all about the internet and keeping your kids safe. Even worse… Live video games. Seems like we have inadvertently created a freakin haven for the Pedo fuckers.

  • Blahblah

The 10yr old took the pics probably with the xbox vision cam

  • Boughtthefarm

I love what he said about he liked porn but his mom wouldn't let him look at it? What mother could stop a 22 year old man from looking at porn if that is what he wanted to do?? Most gay men I know go to bars to meet men. Obviously you won't find a 10 year old in a bar.

  • aka jas

I am not a fan of war in my living room in the morning at all.

  • ProudWife05

Yeah, me either. Thats why it's set up in the other room.

  • Lilloric

maw haha………..oh my i was laughing so hard i almost peed myself. he couldn't tell it was a 10 year old? that is so stupid of a statement i won't even give a snappy comment. lmao

  • Athena

If a person is molesting kids, he's a pedophile (in the vast majority of cases). To be gay AND a pedophile is like being gay AND straight… they're kind of mutually exclusive (bisexuality being a separate issue – hopefully people get what I'm getting at).

When the people you're attracted to are pre-pubescent, gender generally ceases to matter. Men who piddle little boys are not gay, they're pedophiles. Women who piddle little girls are not lesbian, they're pedophiles. Men that piddle little girls are not straight, they're pedophiles. See what I mean?

  • Athena

Precisely. The whole “stranger-danger” thing is teaching kids to be wary of the wrong thing.

Kids are victimized by people they KNOW, so teaching them to beware of strangers is a wasted effort. These predators may be strangers to YOU, but your kids know them all too well.

Teach kids to beware of specific behaviors, and teach them WHY (explaining why a rule exists help them develop their own judgment). Teachiing them to beware of an entire faction of society is useless because it's too broad – there are too many exceptions. After all, cops can be strangers, teachers can be strangers, etc. It's far more beneficial to teach them not to go anywhere with anyone without your permission, not to get naked at anyone's request, etc. Far fewer confusing exceptions for a kid to process.

  • Athena

While I agree with you about teaching kids to use a tool safely, Xboxs and cell phones aren't exactly tools. After all, you won't miss out on a job opportunity because you don't know how to use an Xbox or because you didn't have a cell phone until you could pay for one yourself.

Hopefully the kid has gotten computer safety lessons if they have a computer at home. But there's no argument for children to have gaming consoles or cell phones, really… certainly not, “everyone else has one.”

Besides, how to use a computer is standard curriculum in public school these days. Even if the kid doesn't have a computer at home, they'll be just fine (although homework will be a bitch).

  • Athena

No, it's because we want so desperately to protect children, it sometimes makes us irrational. It's not unusual for an individual charged with possession of child porn (possession rather than manufacturing – the person in question did not personally victimize anyone) to be sentenced more harshly than an individual responsible for an act of violence (rape, aggravated assault, etc.) Is it because the porn possessor is more likely to reoffend? No, they're not necessarily. And we know it's not because they victimized anyone… they simply snagged some pics from some file-sharing location on the interwebs. There's no logical reason for it whatsoever. The reasoning is purely emotional.

  • DastardlyDog

Musta been a big 10 year old! I've seen kids mature faster than normal, but I still smell a rat. This guy is a pedophile, pure and simple. Put him away now before he really harms someone. And the sister is just stupid. You can't fix stupid.

  • Parrot Toes (kathybird)

I had read an article a few months back that stated this. I wish I could quote and link to it but I can't. I had it bookmarked but I lost everything on my computer due to a major crash. It basically said that a grown man who goes after little boys is not doing so because he is gay, he does it because prepubescent boys are very similar to little girls in many ways that it is almost like they are gender neutral. Prepubescent boys are like versions of themselves in a way. If you read about a lot of child molesters personalities, many times they are child like themselves. It's as if they are stuck at a certain age in their heads. Also, the article stated that to have sexual relations with a little boy isn't the same as with a little girl because you can't “deflower” a boy because boys don't have a hymen. To normal people, that may seem unreasonable, but to a child molester it's not. Historically, prepubescent boys have been victim to sex crimes more than prepubescent girls. It probably still is that way. Also, boys tend to keep the secrets more than girls because of the shame that is involved is more than for a girl. I would imagine that it's getting easier for boys to talk about it these days though.

  • Parrot Toes (kathybird)

I have said this somewhere on DD before, I think on the original Kyron Horman story. We always stress so much on Stranger Danger but often neglect to teach our children about Friendly Danger.

Exactly Athena, a pedo is a pedo first and foremost. Even if they do have a gender preference, a pedo is a pedo.

Wow for being the “Grammer Nazi” you really should learn how to spell the word “grammar.”

  • Count Rackula

I think I mentioned this on another thread on a story similar to this, but when I was much younger my friend at the time had met someone from our city in a chat room. She told me at one point that she was going to meet him, and I told her that that was a terrible idea. She told me that it was going to be at the mall, it was a public place, so no big deal, right? I told her she shouldn’t go anyway, but she did (without me), and he lured her into his car and raped her right there in the parking lot. I wasn’t sure how to feel about it, since I had warned her. I was hurting for her, but I was angry at her too. Her parents are the ones who dropped her off at the mall. I don’t think they knew what she was really up to, but still. They just weren’t paying attention.
