Tweaker Charged After Placing Baby In Freezer

Chandler, AZ - Chance Kracke told police he was high on meth when he stuck his 7-month-old son in the freezer last Thursday. He has a perfectly logical explanation for doing so though – the kitchen floor was too dirty. On August 16, Chance was in the kitchen preparing to make himself a snack, but found he couldn’t do so with his infant in his arms. What to do? He couldn’t lay the baby on the floor, it was filthy. Walking out of the kitchen and placing the child in his crib would have been far too much work, so Chance put the infant on the bottom shelf of the freezer, shut the door and prepared his food. He remembered where the child was a couple minutes later after hearing the sound of an angry and cold infant emanating from the freezer. He then took the baby out of the freezer and placed him on the floor. Police say the child ended up with a laceration on his forehead, possibly caused when the freezer door was shut on his face. The child also had bruises on several other areas of his body that were explained away with the old bed and couch stories.

Another child belonging to Chance and his wife was found next door at grandma’s apartment. That child, just 19-months-old, had suffered from a burn at one time or another and was also bruised. Chance and his wife, Leann, said the child was burned after playing with a lighter, but neither had an explanation for the bruises. A quick search of the Kracke’s apartment yielded roaches, hundreds of ‘em, scurrying through the kitchen and pantry; a rusty razor blade within reach of the children; two glass pipes with a white residue in the master bedroom closet; broken glass from an entertainment center; several open containers of chewing tobacco spit within reach of the children; and, of course, the obligatory piles of feces and puddles of urine – origin unknown.

Leann and Chance both admitted to being tweakers, having picked up the habit a couple of months ago. Both were arrested and charged with child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chance was also slapped with a charge of animal cruelty – seems he kicked his dog into an entertainment center a short time after putting the baby in the freezer.

I just don't understand how they became crack heads a couple of months age…I have sympathy for teens that start w/pot and move to hard stuff….when you're in your 20's and should know what this shit does to you…well my sympathy is out the window at that point

I have only read here the terrible things he has done. The mother, Leann, said the child was burned after playing with a lighter. That's bad. He in my view is far worse than this mother. And most women will continue to allow screwed up men in there lives. Both of these people need to really pay for what they have done.

That's just it – there are MILLIONS of drug using and alcoholic parents in this country, and the vast majority of them manage to raise their kids without them ever winding up in a freezer, or the oven, or the microwave, etc.

A high idiot is still an idiot when he's sober as a judge. Drugs don't cause this behavior… if anything, drug use merely exploits already existing moron tendencies.

Actually…. I know there are many addicts who are parents and 'manage' to raise their kids, but meth addicts seem to be the most violent and paranoid from what i've seen in the news over and over again. Does character before the drugs play a part? I'm sure it does. But the meth seems to bring out the violent tendencies more than any other drug based on the news stories I keep reading. Why the hell would anyone try it knowing how addictive it is? I wonder where the kids are now… truly hope in loving arms.

There are millions of drug and alcoholic parents in this country I agree with that but there's noway you can raise a child good high on drugs.Statistic shows children born to regular or recreational drug users are more than likely going to end up and drugs later on in life. If you want children you should make sure you on a stable platform before you even think about having them. DRUGS USER=NO CHILDREN

A Chandler mother received lifetime probation for admitting she abused her two young children, including a toddler who was placed into a freezer.

On Tuesday, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Michael Kemp sentenced Leann Naomi Kracke 26, to lifetime probation on one felony count of child abuse. She was also place on three years of probation on another count of child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.

PHOENIX – A Maricopa County judge has sentenced a Chandler father to 10 years in prison for child abuse after he put his son in a freezer.

Judge Robert Gottsfield also sentenced 24-year-old Chance Kracke Tuesday to lifetime probation after Kracke pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse.

Chandler police say Kracke told them last August he was high on methamphetamine when he put the boy on the bottom shelf of his freezer and closed the door because the kitchen floor was too dirty.
