BESSEMER CITY, NC – It took a little while, but after four prior DUI convictions, 28-year-old Howard Pasour finally murdered someone driving drunk. Police say Pasour was allegedly passing several vehicles on Dallas-Cherryville Highway Sunday night when he eventually collided head-on with a vehicle carrying three teens. Laura Elizabeth Fortenberry, 17, was in the front passenger seat and was killed. The driver, 19-year-old Victoria Elizabeth Iffergan and passenger Evan Griffith, 17, were taken to the hospital. As usual, Pasour suffered only minor injuries. Witnesses described seeing him trying to hide evidence of his drinking under his seats and in the nearby woods immediately after the crash. He has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, habitual DWI and aggravated felony death by motor vehicle. His father spoke to reporters stating he’d feel better about things had it been his son that died and not someone else’s daughter. I loathe habitual drunk drivers and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the public will be safe from this moron for a very, very long time.

That was tough listening to her mom talk about losing her!

  • The_Shadow_Knows

Someone who habitually drives drunk is exactly like someone who randomly fires a gun in a crowded room. It displays depraved indifference to human life and should be punished the exact same way if someone dies, as unfortunately happened here.

As things stand, this piece of garbage will get a comparative slap on the wrist instead of the death sentence he deserves.

  • cplpunishment

I am utterly apalled and speechless.

  • KyFyre

I'm sorry but I think when it comes to DUI/DWI offenders should fall into a “3 Strikes You're Out” category. Meaning, on 3rd arrest and conviction they need to be sentenced to YEARS in prison. I'm so sick of people like this drunken murdering scumbag getting caught drunk driving time and time again and nothing being done until AFTER they kill someone. I hate to even try to guess at how many more innocent lives will be lost and families destroyed before the law finally takes a hint that these drunken monsters don't care who they can and will hurt as and will keep re-offending just so they can get drunk.

If you want to get drunk, stay your ass at home off the roads. If you're drunk and absolutely have to go somewhere, call a freaking taxi.

  • lexismom

OMG !!!! He deserves to die . What a beautiful girl . Selfish ass mofo , I am curious to see what kind of sentence is handed out .

  • cplpunishment

Yes Morbid please keep us informed when you have a update to this story. This is very close to home for me and I have just put a 16 year old daughter on the road. Gah this girl is so beautiful and young.

  • jessaj

I HATE drunk drivers! It's one of the most selfish things a person can do. That beautiful girl lost her life, her parents and family lost someone they loved, yet that piece of donkey shit walks away? I hope he gets raped daily. Repeatedly. By very “large” men. With no lube.

  • aka jas

Devastating. Another selfish drunk taking something never belonged to him. A life. Sad. Very very sad.

  • J Van S

The Drunk Driver's Father speaking out the way he did, you feel for him too. I think about the Wives, Children and Families of some of the Criminals we see on this site as being victims as well, too a far lesser extent.

How would you feel, ya'know? If your child did something horrible to some innocent soul?

  • soplisako80

This guy makes me sick!! I am in tears for the girls family!! I couldn't imagine losing a child in such a senseless way!! He is a monster and I hope he gets what he deserves though I doubt he will. Also after getting caught so many times how was he still driving? My brother in law got caught driving drunk twice and they restricted his license and put a breathalyzer in his car. I know there are ways around that thing, but in my brother in laws case it worked perfectly.. None of us were going to blow in that thing so he could go drive drunk.. So from that point on he had to call his wife every time he couldn't start his car.

  • The_Shadow_Knows

Unfortunately, alcohol is considered a mitigating factor when in my opinion it should be an aggravating one. This guy chose to drink to excess and should suffer the same penalty as if he ran over this girl on purpose.

But it will never happen. Too many lawmakers are drunks themselves.

  • FunkDoC

This is such a tragic story, but it's all too common. I'm not saying this to be attacked by everyone here, but maybe I deserve it. I have absolutely nothing on my criminal record at all, but on 07/13/10 I got a DUI. I was pretty drunk too and had no business being behind the wheel of a car. I can't even say it was the first time I drank before driving, but I can say it was my last time. I am a 33 year old father of 3 little girls and my completely irresponsible behavior jeopardized innocent lives all around me. It was a reckless, dangerous, serious mistake that I made several times before being caught. I'm glad I was caught though. It may sound odd to say that, but the punishments I'm currently going through will certainly remain fresh in my mind and I am 100% confident that will never make that horrible decision again. If this happened to one of my own daughters, or if I had been responsible for injuring someone else by my behavior I would never be able to forgive myself or ask for forgiveness. I'm just glad that it all came to a stop before I ever hurt anything or anyone.

As far as your comment “The Shadow Knows”, rest assured that he'll be in a LOT more trouble for doing this while intoxicated as opposed to being sober…and with this being his FIFTH DUI ensures he's going to be looking at a long prison sentence and will never be able to legally drive again…

  • The_Shadow_Knows

    I hope you're right.

Because that girl is in her grave and this piece of garbage put her there. He should pay for that.

  • cplpunishment

FunkDoc…It is very brave of you to come here and share your experience with DUI. It would be best if you would quit drinking all together. When you drink you are not setting a good example for your daughters. You really don't want them growing up remembering their Dad that way so it would be best to be the best dad you can be and just stop all together. Trust me you will lead a more fullfilling and healthier life.

  • Deety

I'd like to see people permanently lose their license after the second DUI, with the penalty for driving without a license being years in prison. Because you can't stop alcoholics like this guy from drinking, but maybe you can stop them from driving. And your weekend boozers would be less likely to risk permanently losing the ability to drive, so they would learn their lesson after one DUI.

  • Tundratot

We had a recent case here where the woman, an habitual alcoholic driver, had lost her license, and was awaiting trial. She was under the guardianship of her sister, which was supposed to keep her in line. She got drunk. took her sister's car, and killed someone DWI. Loosing licenses and cars won't necessarily stop these idiots. They have to be locked up.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

His ability to drive depends very much on how the state handles DUIs. There was a case a year ago where a man had SIX DUIs, but he was still licensed, ran a stop sign at high speed, and rammed his motorcycle into a man and his little girl, killing the girl and causing the man to lose a leg. He did get 24 years in prison, but his sentence was curtailed when another inmate shivved him in the processing area and killed him. You can read about it here: http://www.dreamindemon.com/2009/06/03/edward-s

  • Mrodriguez416

    i agree… :(

  • Guest420

They should have a special treatment for people like these, Strap them down on a chair, put a IV in them keep them drunk all the time if they like it so much. At least they can't kill others that way.

  • Guest

FunkDoC: I agree with others that you are brave for sharing your story here. Thank you for being honest. If you're able to be honest and open to criticism then you're part of the solution.

I wish that stories of people mowed down by drunk drivers were the stuff of the past. Unfortunately, people do get f'd up and drive. This SHOULD remind us that we are in charge of a two-ton automobile whenever we are behind the wheel.

Please, folks. Don't drive drunk, don't drive buzzed, don't drive on new meds or anything that alters your perception, don't drive and talk on your phone. I don't care if I sound like a defensive driving teacher–pay attention to the road.

I live in a huge city; I'd swear people drive like they're in a video game.

drunk drivers need to be  actually removed from existance,3 strikes and you either on the pedo island or swinging from a rope
