Abandoned Child Leads Police To Mother’s Body

July 26, 2010 at 11:40 am by

Cleveland, OH – Not much on this one, but according to police, witnesses called 911 late Sunday night after seeing someone abandon a 4-year-old boy at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and East 28th. Officers arrived on scene and transported the child to family services. After talking with the kid awhile, police were led to his home, which, by the way, was nearly 8 miles away from the location where he had been found. There they discovered the body of a 42-year-old black woman – she had been stabbed repeatedly and stashed underneath a tarp in the garage. Neighbors said they heard screams coming from the garage earlier in the evening, but I have to assume that no one bothered to call 911 at the time. Police have named a person of interest in the case – the woman’s husband, 38-year-old Maurice Lyons. He is said to be driving a silver Chevy Cobalt with Pennsylvania license plates and may be on his way to Chicago. The victim had recently filed a report that Lyons had threatened her.

“Neighbors said they heard screams coming from the garage earlier in the evening, but I have to assume that no one bothered to call 911 at the time.”

It sounds terrible; but it is difficult to blame them if this was business as usual in that house-hold…….

I don't know, the screams of someone being stabbed repeatedly surely would strike a different tone than an argument scream. No pass for the neighbors from me, although I think had they called they could'nt have saved the woman, maybe just caught the fucktard right off.

I had a downstairs neighbor like that. One night, the screams got more terrifying, and there was a sickening thunk, then silence, so my then-boyfriend called 911. When the cops showed up, he ran out of their apartment through the back door, and then the “victim” went crazy, screaming obscenities, banging on the ceiling (our apartment floor), and calling me all sorts of nasty names because she was sure I called the police on her boyfriend. My boyfriend then called 911 again to deal with her. We were scared that he just killed her (she had two very young children), and she repaid our concern with stupidity and misguided rage. While I feel sorry for the little boy, if his mother reacted like our former neighbor when she fought with her lover and police were called, I can understand why the neighbors would be hesitant to call for help.

When I was 13yrs old my mother and her boyfriend were arguing over a missing flag. He had been at the bar all night and had it in his head that my friends and I had stole it. My mom got so upset she started throwing all his stuff out onto the deck. Her boyfriend then walks into the house right pass my sister and I. He grabs a knife walks out the door and stabs my mom right out on the deck. My mom screamed so loud..It was late at night but every one of our neighbors not only heard it but came outside. a few people came and assisted my mom, most just stood outside and watched. I will never forget that night as long as I live! He boyfriend only stabbed her once and then jumped into our van and took off. but my mom didn't stop screaming until the ambulance showed up. My mom lived although the doctors said had the knife went in one inch further she would have been dead before she even made it to the hospital.I still to this day hate knifes! I wish I didn't even need them in my home to be honest. I feel for that poor little boy!!

    Lyons has been arrested….

Lyons was picked up shortly after noon at Tower City. 19 Action News has learned Lyons was wanted in two cases prior to Monday's arrest. Both involved threats or violence against the murder victim, Tonya Hunter-Lyons.

soplisako I know this is a late reply to this thread, but I’m so sorry that you and your mom had to go through this!!! I have neighbors who scream at each other and then the young man slams several doors, storms out and drives away. I admit, I sometimes peek and listen, worrying that the fight might get physical. One night the guys brother came over and they had a drunken fist fight in the hallway outside our door! One fled, yelling curses over his shoulder. I don’t think either one were seriously injured but I was a nervous wreck! Should I have called the police? Not sure. ( I live in a low income neighborhood at the moment, cops won’t come just for noise)
