I Want My Chicken, Dammit!

I Want My Chicken, Dammit!

Tulsa, OK – A quick question, if I may…have any of you ever heard of or been to an eating establishment called Chicken Hut? If so, how’s the food? It is pure heaven in a greasy bucket? I ask this because I’ve never heard of the place and am quite surprised at it’s obvious popularity. At about 3:00 Sunday morning, an estimated 100-150 people were at the eatery just hanging around or waiting for their orders to be filled. Out of those 100+ hungry people, only one person bothered to call 911 as a man lay bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds – the victim’s sister. Valentino ‘Tony’ Verner, 27, was gunned down by an unknown assailant as he stood in front of the Hut. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they had to fight their way through the crowd to provide medical assistance to the dying man. None of the bystanders had even attempted to help Tony. As a matter of fact, people were actually shoving the EMT’s out of the way and stepping over Tony’s body to get to the take-out window. I love me some deep fried fowl and processed potatoes as much as anyone, but damn, that is harsh.

Paramedics were at the scene for only seven minutes before they had to leave – for Tony’s safety and theirs. “There were many irate bystanders yelling at the (EMSA) crew, Tulsa police and Tulsa firefighters,” EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells said. Tony, a father of two, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The only information authorities were able to glean from all those witnesses was that the gunman was wearing a blue or gray hoodie and was possibly driving a bubble-style Chevy Impala. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.

"Ethnic" joint catering to "da brothas and sistas" just getting out of the club.

    Why am I not surprised?
  • You just don't go into North T-town.

That is some sick shit though. Awful people!

Sounds like a great group of folks there at the chicken hut- next time one of those who were otherwise engaged while that man lay dying visits the HUT I hope they choke on a chicken bone and lay choking to death while folks step over their bodies. Talk about justice

Lets not get all worked up people, he was 27 years old with two kids no wife or job listed. And the fact that there wasn't a panic when he was shot means the shooter was specifically targeting him. It wasn't a drive-by or a crime of opportunity, someone did not like this man probably for good reason. He made his own bed and got shot in it, why should I have to wait around to get my wings because this guy can't stay out of trouble. I have things to do!

How do you know his employment or marital status?

I had a long explanation typed and spell checked but the posting system here crapped all over it, long story short, I read the article.

If chicken is more important than a humans life to you then something is horribly wrong with your brain and you should seek help immediately

i used to live in that part of tulsa, and it is really nothing out of the ordinary..it really is a hellhole and i am thankful that we moved. the best part is that they recently opened a damn grocery store for the first time in years, since the last one was shut down due to multiple robberies. it was robbed within 2 weeks of course.

Not only did they walk past a dying man, they stepped over him as he lay dying. They made it impossible for him to get the life saving help he desperately needed. They played a part in his death..all for some damned chicken. Such a handsome young man, a father of 2 children, had his life stolen from him in such a brutal and pathetic fashion.

What has broken in our society that it is alright to walk by someone in need of help? This is a brother, a father, a son; this isn't some weird Mad Max movie. What. The. Fuck!

I strongly suspect that in large part that breakdown you speak of can be laid directly at the doorstep of the "pros" as exemplified by the DEA agent giving a demonstration at a school who said, "I am the only one in this room professional enough that I know of to carry a Glock 40" who immediately thereafter -- while the last echos of his hubristic words faded -- had a negligent discharge and shot himself in the leg. And the newspapers and other media have aided them -- humans all, and as subject to human error as any other human -- in the repetitious drumbeat of "The pros will handle it. Stay out. You are not competent to do it. You don't have the skills and the training and know-how to deal with it. Let the professionals handle it". And since the professionals will handle it the hoi polloi don't need to get involved.

Over the past 20 years both the Democratic and the Republican Parties appear to have been engaged in a concerted effort to convince the American populace to sit down, pay no attention to the important business, and only concern themselves with their own wants, needs, and desires. This is the outcome.

eh, I think the biggest flaw in your argument is that, and I could be wayyy off, but I have a feeling these people don't really watch the news or pay attention to politics very much so I think that indoctrination would have escaped them.
  • AlwaysInFlyoverCountry
And they don't listen to the radio? They always change the station when the news comes on? They don't watch TV dramas?

It's all pervasive at this point. There was a Reader's Digest article several years ago about somebody associated with the Greg and Dharma TV show who witnessed a traffic accident and stopped to see if he could help the victim who had been flung from his vehicle. Seems the victim was armed, and the other bystanders insisted he leave the man alone because he might be involved in drugs. As it turned out, the victim was a plain-clothes police detective.

It comes from Hollyweird; it comes from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and Fox; it comes from everywhere. It's not merely the soi-disant political pundits and news junkies promulgating that attitude; it is everybody who seeks to glean a dollar from the public pocket, whether they are elected, appointed, or merely selling entertainment or advertising space.

And I don't know how to stop it.
