Tulsa, OK – A quick question, if I may…have any of you ever heard of or been to an eating establishment called Chicken Hut? If so, how’s the food? It is pure heaven in a greasy bucket? I ask this because I’ve never heard of the place and am quite surprised at it’s obvious popularity. At about 3:00 Sunday morning, an estimated 100-150 people were at the eatery just hanging around or waiting for their orders to be filled. Out of those 100+ hungry people, only one person bothered to call 911 as a man lay bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds – the victim’s sister. Valentino ‘Tony’ Verner, 27, was gunned down by an unknown assailant as he stood in front of the Hut. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they had to fight their way through the crowd to provide medical assistance to the dying man. None of the bystanders had even attempted to help Tony. As a matter of fact, people were actually shoving the EMT’s out of the way and stepping over Tony’s body to get to the take-out window. I love me some deep fried fowl and processed potatoes as much as anyone, but damn, that is harsh.
Paramedics were at the scene for only seven minutes before they had to leave – for Tony’s safety and theirs. “There were many irate bystanders yelling at the (EMSA) crew, Tulsa police and Tulsa firefighters,” EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells said. Tony, a father of two, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The only information authorities were able to glean from all those witnesses was that the gunman was wearing a blue or gray hoodie and was possibly driving a bubble-style Chevy Impala. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
