Robert Gulla Charged With Stabbing Allison Myrick To Death

SHIRLEY, Mass — Robert Gulla and Allison Myrick, both 19-years-old, began dating in SeptemberSeptember reviewsSeptember reviews but Myrick broke off the relationship in December. Myrick received an emergency restraining order against Gulla shortly afterward that would last for 24 hours. Myrick filed for another restraining order against Gulla last Tuesday that would remain in effect until Feb. 2. Myrick had to get help from Fitchburg State College campus police at least twice because of Gulla’s harassment. On Saturday, Myrick went to the home of Gulla’s mother where he lived in the basement. Gulla’s mother told police she heard them arguing and left. When she returned several hours later, she would find Myrick stabbed to death and her son suffering from knife and gunshot wounds. Prosecutors said Gulla stabbed Myrick with a knife and then used it on himself, and shot himself in the head with a rifle-style air gun.

Of course he wasn’t able to do as good a job on himself as he did a 19-year-old girl, and was admitted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in stable condition. He was charged with first-degree murder. On report states that the Dec 10th emergency restraining order stemmed from an incident in which Gulla was arrested and charged with vandalism and three counts of assault and battery.

Myrick’s parents said in a statement that their daughter was in an abusive relationship. “Please take this as an example that this can happen to anyone, they wrote. “If you are in a situation that is in any way abusive, no matter how small it may seem at first, please ask for help.

Looks like this girl and her family tried everything legal. They obtained restraining orders and even the college she attended tried to help. “I think we did everything, as a college, we could do to assist her,’’ Fitchburg State College president Robert V. Antonucci said. “Whenever she asked for anything, we helped. She made contact with our police department, and they referred her to the appropriate authorities.’’

I’m not real sure what steps a young girl can take to protect herself against some jack-off who turns out to be quite unstable. Especially to the point where you are getting restraining orders filed against them. But let this be a lesson to some of you out there. If you find yourself with some lame idiot ex-boyfriend like Gulla, never under any circumstance, go to their home alone and accompany them down to the basement they live in.

is he really a jack off or was she a control freak
  • irishrose2487
Are you trying to imply that if she was a "control freak," his actions wouldn't still make him a jack off?.... Damn, I hope you worded this wrong or without thinking, otherwise I hope no "controlling" girls unwittingly choose to date you..

i used to go to elementary, middle, and high school with gulla at different intervals. from what i've been reading in the local newspapers around here, the violence that was transpiring between them had been going on at least since october of 2009. i believe that the vandalism charges were because he trashed a police holding cell (in ayer, i could be wrong) after he was briefly taken into custody after assaulting her.

at any rate, i was shocked, but not surprised when i found out about this. robby was always really strange, and quiet. i don't think he made a lot of friends, and when i had classes with him later on in high school, he didn't speak at all and rarely participated in the class. even when we were kids, he was a lot more unusual than my other classmates, and it seemed like he'd do outrageous things so that everyone would acknowledge him. in retrospect i really regret ignoring him.

These are the latest updates I could find on Allisons murder Domestic-violence experts sound off as Shirley slay case heads to grand jury
Feb. 6--AYER -- As Robert Gulla sits in Bridgewater State Hospital after allegedly murdering his 19-year-old girlfriend in his Shirley home two weeks ago, a UMass Lowell teen dating violence expert says society should not be asking why Allison Myrick continued to see her former boyfriend despite allegations of ongoing abuse.

The real question, UMass Lowell Professsor Sharon Wasco suggests, is why did 19-year-old Gulla repeatedly assault Allison Myrick in various incidents leading up to Jan. 23 when she went to see him in his home, despite a restraining order, and ended up dead.

"When you ask why Allison kept going back to him, it deflects the real question: Why do some boys abuse?" Wasco said.

Wasco, an assistant professor of psychology, noted that we live in a society where men are rewarded for being aggressive however, that doesn't mean all men are abusive.

"The majority of men don't abuse, so what makes some do it?" she asked.

There can be mental-health issues, substance abuse, depression or learned behavior when a man grows up in an abusive household, she said. Gulla's case is still a mystery.

During their tumultuous, but brief romance, court records show allegations of domestic abuse began shortly after they started dating in September. Myrick tried to end it, even taking out a restraining order against Gulla just four days before he allegedly stabbed her to death.

"The time when an abuse victim is most at risk is when they try to

    leave," Wasco said.

"When he can't control her anymore with a slap or verbal threats and the victim fights back (by leaving), his behavior escalates. It's about power and control," she said.

Authorities allege that about 7:20 p.m. on that Saturday, Myrick was with Gulla in his basement in his parent's Shirley home. Gulla's mother, Kimberly, told police Myrick was at her house and she heard the couple arguing. The mother left for few hours and when she returned she discovered the bodies.

Myrick was pronounced dead at the scene, while Gulla was flown by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he was treated for a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head with a pellet gun and stab wounds to his wrist.

Police say Gulla stabbed Myrick, then shot and stabbed himself.

Out of the hospital and being held without bail at Bridgewater State Hospital, prosecutor Lisa McGovern explained during a pretrial conference hearing in Ayer District Court Friday that Gulla's murder case and other domestic-abuse cases will be brought before a grand jury for indictment before March 12, which is a probable cause hearing date set in district court.

Gulla is charged with first-degree murder and violation of a restraining order. He has other pending domestic-assault and battery charges involving Myrick.

    FSC holds memorial for student,,,,
Feb. 5--FITCHBURG -- Students, faculty and college officials mourned Allison Myrick in a memorial service inside the Hammond Center Main Lounge Thursday, two weeks after the 19-year-old freshman was killed.

Abbie Brown,18, referred to Myrick as her best friend and told the crowd of about 50 people that she and Myrick found common ground in their love of Converse sneakers and the game of lacrosse when they met at the beginning of this school year.

"Allison will always be looking down on me, and be there when I need somebody to help," said Brown.

Brown shared her memories of Myrick from a podium sent up in front of the center's wall of windows on the first floor. A poster-sized photograph of Myrick was set up nearby, with a candle next to it.

Thursday's memorial marked the end of the mourning period for the Fitchburg State College Community, according to Hank Parkinson, director of Student Development, though Parkinson said Myrick's roommates continue to struggle with the loss of their friend who was allegedly stabbed and killed on Jan. 23 by her ex-boyfriend, Robert Gulla, 19. Gulla faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the slaying.

"We'll officially move on as a community," Parkinson said.

A book of remembrance that's been on display in the Hammond Center for one week will be taken down Friday, Parkinson said, now that it's been filled with tributes to Myrick and sympathies for her family by the college community.

    Myrick's

family did not attend the memorial service, though her mother, Susan Myrick, submitted a statement about her daughter, which was distributed on a small program bearing Myrick's picture Thursday.

"Allison had just begun her second semester at Fitchburg State College, where she was studying journalism and graphic design. She was a smart, sweet, talented, funny, irreverent, courageous, outspoken, compassionate and gorgeous young woman. Allison will be missed, but not forgotten. She will live on through our memories," Susan Myrick wrote.

College President Robert V. Antonucci talked about meeting Myrick's parents last week, saying it was one of the most difficult things he has had to do. Antonucci also said Myrick's death is a reminder that domestic violence must be eradicated.

"Let's remember that domestic violence, dating violence, interpersonal relationship violence, have no place in our society," Antonucci said.

He added that the college must work to prevent another domestic violence-related death.

"If we do that, Allison's memory will forever be with us," Antonucci said.

Gregg Lisciotti, chairman of the college Board of Trustees, also touched on the nature of Myrick's death.

"To take her away so violently makes the tragedy even harder to bear," Lisciotti said.

A pianist and cantor played a religious hymn, before Parkinson, the Student Development director, closed with a poem entitled "Miss Me But Let Me Go" by Edgar A. Guest.

Students reacted to the memorial services, and Myrick's death, as the crowd slowly shuffled out Thursday.

Sarah Durfee, president of the Class of 2011 and a resident advisor, said the tragedy has been a jarring experience for the freshman girls she lives with.

"They've had questions, but they're doing okay," said Durfee, who plans to organize some domestic violence awareness activities this semester.

John O'Brien, a student who was dating Myrick, also attended the memorial service Thursday.

"It was very touching, and very well put-together, but they call it a memorial service for a reason: it was sad, too," O'Brien said.

yea its some fucked up shit. Still cant belive it
  • Johnny F.
You didn't mention that Gulla is an autistic retard bitch. I'm glad Gulla is still alive, because he has a torrent of pain that's coming for his worthless ass.
  • BlazintheBongs
I actually know the kid who stabbed her. I would of never seen this coming I just found out about it today and I am completley dumbfounded. The last time I hung out with him was last year when we went to a les claypool concert in Boston, but I havent talked with him since.....
  • digitaltempest
This is tragic, and I see so many young girls putting up with this kind of thing. I want to believe that this girl went to his house unwillingly. I just can't see someone who's doing everything they can legally to keep someone away from them just up and going to his/her house... unless this person had the intentions of going over there and remedying the situation illegally.
  • Truth
Trying everything legal only goes so far when you invariably land yourself in the killer's hands by going to his or his mother's house.
  • granny-g
    Don't people watch horror movies.
NEVER go to the basement with the Killer!

May this beautiful young lady rest in peace.........I pray that other young folks
will learn that abuse is NOT normal.
  • angela
Are we sure she went their willingly? Were they arguing or was he beating her ass? I'm not sure if I trust what the mother of this guy is saying...
