Man Bites Off Cop’s Nipple

January 20, 2010 at 3:02 am by

Chicago, IL – At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening, 31 year old Fernando Cooper and an off-duty police officer got into an altercation outside Gibson’s Bar and Steakhouse. Despite the officer’s identification of himself as a police officer, Cooper kept going, causing cuts and bruises to the officer about the eye with several punches and “severely” biting the officer’s nipple. Um, were they nude? Isn’t Chicago a little nippy this time of year? Both men were treated for cuts and bruises. According to a doctor, the officer “lost a body part.” I’m assuming this means his nipple. The cause of the dispute was not immediately known. Now, get this – aside from misdemeanor resisting arrest and panhandling in a prohibited manner charges, Cooper has been charged with aggravated battery and attempting to disarm a peace officer. WTF? Are the officer’s nipples considered deadly weapons? Someone please explain.

Scarlett62, honey, I believe they thought he attempted to take off the officers arm, hence the disarming charge!! ;)

A police officer has the authority to enforce the law ALL the time. The term “off-duty” only means that the cop is not on a regular shift. The difference being only that when off duty, a cop must establish that he is a police officer. You know the cops working security? Off-duty. They still have the ability to enforce laws just like any cop.

Maybe the officer was lactating. :p

I would guess, and I'm no expert, but the aggravated battery charge and attempting to “disarm” came from the guy not only ripping a chunk of flesh off the officer's body but numbnuts probably went for the officer's gun.

You're not going to catch too many police officers NOT reaching for their gun while you try to gnash your teeth and swing your fists at them.

It the dude is off duty what is he doing arresting people. It is like it gives any dude with a GED and a badge the right to mess with people.

Most if not all Off duty officers still carry their back up weapon.

Okay, so I get that maybe even though the guy was off duty, he MIGHT have had a gun with him (although the article did not tell me this). I am still wondering why nipples were exposed anyway. Okay, okay, I guess in a scuffle a shirt could have been ripped off or something.

It was probably they were considered weapons because they were pointing at the offender in a threatening manner. Use of Deadly Nips.

I could be reading this wrong, but I thought the off-duty police officer was in an altercation with him? Was he fighting with him and started losing so he then identify's himself as a policeman? Expecting the man to stop beating his ass?

A couple of yrs ago, my husband, kids and myself were out for dinner…this guy makes a smartass comment about my kid to my husband (a bag fell out of our car and before my husband could bend down and pick it up) about how we are “litter bugs” or something to that effect…at first we ignored him but he made a couple of more comments…words were exchanged and my husband shoved him & next thing you know he's identifying himself as a police officer…now mind you he reeked of alcohal (we were going into and he was coming out of the restuarant), but after pushing somebody's buttons he all of a sudden identifys himself? Give me a break, some of these policeman deserve a beat down for their bullshit they try and pull
