Holbury, England – In may of last year, Rosanne England, 21, called police and reported that she had been raped by an intruder. She told them that a man came to her residence and asked to use her phone and bathroom because his car had broken down. After letting the man in, he put on a dog mask and attacked her. With a scratched face and torn clothing, she gave them a detailed description of her attacker that led to police finding someone who matched it. Derek Cummings, 59, a married father of two teenage girls, was spotted at a local bar and could not offer a solid alibi as during the time of the attack, he had been walking his dog in the woods alone. He was taken to jail and held there for 28 hours before being released on bail. For the next 24 days, forensic teams did there thing while Cummings was being vilified by the public. It wasn’t until it was found that England’s clothes had been cut before being torn that she finally came clean and admitted to making the entire story up. The court heard that England suffered from mental health problems and was receiving psychiatric help but was sentenced to 18-months in jail. “My family has been through hell,” Cummings said. “I do not want to see a 21-year-old woman jailed but she knew I had been arrested and I was totally innocent. I have mixed feelings about her.”
