Kelly Hernandez Cooked The Baby’s Butt

January 15, 2010 at 9:02 am by

Rochester, NY – An 8-month-old child is suffering first, second, and third degree burns to his back and butt because Kelly Hernandez didn’t feel like bending over. Hernandez, an in-home daycare provider, has had her license suspended and is facing child abuse charges after she allegedly placed her young charge on top of the stove to change his diaper. Somehow, the electric burner was turned on while the child was sitting on it. Hernandez was reportedly distraught and crying while undergoing questioning, as she should have been. She admitted to police that she had made a stupid mistake, but said she was lazy that day and “didn’t want to bend over to change the baby so she put him on the stove top.” I’ve changed diapers in some off the wall places, but the kitchen stove never crossed my mind. The child’s parents say the burns are so bad, the baby may need plastic surgery. Hernandez, 44, has been charged with second-degree assault and reckless assault of a child by a day care provider and has been released on $1,500 bail.

She looks like a fat barbie that was put into a microwave for 30 seconds.

  • Christine

    that is hilarious.

  • Abroad

What kind of daycare does not have a proper changing table for the young charges? I get the impression she was saying the alternative was the floor?

  • msolsen05

I really dont know what to say. I have done the same with changing diapers in interesting places…but never on a f****** stovetop. Who does stupid shit like that? poor little guy. Hope he heals soon.

  • silvahalo

Stupid, lazy bitch. She'd be the one needing plastic surgery after I was done with her.

I hope this little one recovers completely.

  • Dneil

umm, I call bullshit on this being an accident. If for example, the stove was accidentally turned on… a person would know immediately that something was wrong. It would smell, clothing would smoke…diaper would melt. It is bullshit. She is lying. Think about it.

I have an 8 month old and I just asked dad if he would ever put Boo Boo on the stove to change her diaper…he just started laughing like “are you serious?” Who the hell puts a baby on the stove for any reason except to cook it? I mean, really?

  • meanbitch

OMG!! How lazy can you be??? Wow…that's really all I can say…other than I hope the baby recovers good…

  • defenestratethis

I agree completely. If its an electric stove, those burners take time to get hot, doesnt happen instantly. She turned 'em on beforehand and waited, I bet.

I dunno, my electric stove gets hot enough to burn skin pretty damn quick.

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

I don't get why a daycare provider would have to choose between changing a baby on a stove, or changing him on the floor. Like Abroad, I would assume any good daycare provider has a designated appropriate spot to change her diaper-wearing clients. If I had to choose between a stove or a floor to change a baby, I would definitely choose the floor. I don't know if I would even use a counter, unless there was enough clearance that the baby wouldn't risk bumping his head.

I have never changed a baby's diaper, but aren't you supposed to do that on a table? Who plops a baby down on a electic burner?

  • malq

I get that, but the question is 'what was the baby doing on the stove in the first place?'.
It appears there was no other place to do it. and the counters were cluttered or full of debris.
If that was the case, it is my experience that the stove is the first place to clutter.
Bullshit. she wanted to teach that baby a lesson.

That's quite a jump in logic, especially since this woman has run this daycare for 17 years without any incidents.Fromt eh comments being made by neighbors and parents of children that this woman has cared for, she is a good person. This is just an accident caused by a very, very stupid decision. Not saying she should not answer for her dumb decision (which she is), but there is no evidence anywhere that points to her sticking this baby on a stove purely to “punish” her.

  • http://www.dreamindemon.com Morbid

Just in case anyone decided not to read the court documents, this woman placed a nylon changing pad on top of the stove. they believe the pad slipped at some point and turned the burner(s) on. Cops retrieved that changing pad and also tested the stove. They found that after 15 seconds of being turned on, it was too hot to touch. They even put the same changing pad on the burners to see what would happen, and while the pad heated up enough to burn skin, it remained undamaged.

Obviously this is not the metal spiral type burners, but the flattop type stove. It was also a very dumb decision on her part. But to jump straight to the fact that she intentionally did this is a bit jumpy considering the evidence and her actions immediately following the burning (calling for help AND calling the parents).

  • malq

okay maybe I was jumping ahead a little, But a stove? It doesn't make sense if there was a counter. Anyone who has ever used a flatop stove knows all you have to do is lay a finger on the on button. You are right, they do get hot immediately. That being said, it is suspicious that she chose the stove. After 11 years of day care was that a slip? i dunno.

I would like to see a pic of the area it happened

Have you ever worked in a daycare? It is truely a stressful job! It was simply a bad mistake!

  • nutmuffin

Really? A bad mistake is putting a diaper on backwards.

Lamest excuse EVER! If it's so fucking stressful, why the fuck is she doing it in the first place?

  • Lizard

I would just wrap duct tape around the legs of the diaper so I wouldn't have to expose the baby to any of these horrendous risks by trying to change his or her diaper.

    :P

  • meanbitch

As a matter of fact I have, I know it's stressful..but that doesn't excuse anything..When I worked for the daycare, there were times I just wanted to go crazy..but I didn't that is why you give yourself time to cool down. You never should harm an infant, even if it's by mistake, you should always watch what you are doing and there should be no reason to put a baby on the stove top to change a diaper..none whatsoever! And sorry but you sticking up for this women is sicking to me…she was in the wrong..even if she was “to tired to bend over”, there are other ways to get around that then putting the child on a fucking stove.

  • Redddog

    OMG!!!

…… damn this babies wiggling a lot….. damn this baby sure screams loud….. do you smell bacon?
    ….. HOLD STILL BABY!!!…..

…………….thoughts that ran through this womans mind right before the “Oh SHIT!!” moment.

  • Redddog

    Horrible!! Just horrible!!

this site is known for some evil shit. But i cant help but feel bad for both the child and the traumatized woman. Just Horrible.

“Just in case anyone decided not to read the court documents, this woman placed a nylon changing pad on top of the stove. they believe the pad slipped at some point and turned the burner(s) on. Cops retrieved that changing pad and also tested the stove.”

Clearly an accident. A stupid one, like many if not MOST accidents. I'm sure she feels terrible about it, as well she should. But that doesn't mean it wasn't an accident. Our stove, the knobs turn practically just by being walked past…I've bumped them by accident several times, and not realized until much later that the stove was on when I smelled gas.

In short, this is a sad story, but not an enraging one. Truly doesn't seem it was intentional.
