Los Angeles, CA - After being convicted of killing 12-year-old Robin Samsoe in 1979, Rodney James Alcala was twice sentenced to death. Both convictions were eventually overturned. The first conviction in 1980 was overturned because the court ruled that his past crimes — a 1972 conviction of raping and beating an 8-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, plus the molesting of another child — were improperly allowed. Then in 2001, the second conviction was overturned on grounds that Alcala’s lawyers should have been allowed to introduce a psychologist’s testimony casting doubt on a witness’ claim of amnesia and that his attorney did not present alibi witnesses. Now Alcala is back for a third shot at the needle. This time authorities have added four other murders to his repertoire. Alcala’s DNA has been identified in the murders of Jill Barcomb, 18; Georgia Wixted, 27; Charlotte Lamb, 32; and Jill Parenteau, 21. These women were murdered, sexually assaulted, beaten and strangled between 1977 and 1979.

These women were all sexually assaulted and strangled. The killings took place during the reigns of other serial killers – the Hillside Strangler and the Freeway Killer. At one point, at least one of these murders was thought to belong to the Hillside Strangler. Now, DNA proves that to be mistaken. Police in New York suspect Alcala of killing at least two women there. One body was found in 1977 within feet of a spot where a woman posed for Alcala, an amateur photographer. It appears the only reason Alcala stopped killing was because he got caught when he killed Robin Samsoe.

Samsoe disappeared from a beach in June 1979. She was playing with a friend when a man, later identified as Alcala, approached them and asked to take their picture.  Later, Samsoe left on her friend’s bicycle for ballet class. She was never seen alive again. Samsoe’s mutilated body was found 12 days later in the Angeles National Forest by a forestry worker. It was so badly decomposed that it was impossible to determine cause of death or if she had been sexually assaulted. Another forestry worker had seen a man near a car like Alcala’s pushing a blonde girl toward a stream bed on the day Samsoe disappeared. She did not report this until after the girl’s body was found and she did not testify at the second trial because she claimed to have amnesia!  Thanks, bitch!

The only positive thing in this mess is that Alcala has remained behind bars since his original conviction. In an obvious ploy to drag this out and torture the families as long as possible, Alcala petitioned the court to represent himself in this matter. Some surviving family members believe he is just playing head games, enjoying himself. As it is likely he will never see the outside of prison, he’s just biding his time and entertaining himself.

Prosecutors from Orange and Angeles Counties will try the case. Opening statements in Alcala’s third trial began on January 11, 2010. An eerie fact in all of this …. In 1979, while on parole for raping and beating an 8-year-old girl, Rodney Alcala appeared on “The Dating Game”!!  Little did these ladies know they were flirting with a serial killer. Creepy!!!

My first comment! OMG, I would love to see that footage of the dating game! That would be better than any scary movie, can anybody make that happen?

  • Truth

You're happy about being the first commentor? There's nothing happy about this situation.

This whole story is a repetitive conundrum of bullshit that perpetuates itself in courts daily and never seems to cease.

Let's have a system of balance via some sort of archaic Roman Empire ideology. Lets get the dog's we rescue from dog fighting kennels and sick them on people like this. Within the audience we intermix other inmates and put this out as a call to the entire world that inhuman and cowardice towards other souls on this planet will not be tolerated any longer.

We have come this far and to not impose barbarism on barbaric, wait, make that inhuman actions such as these? It's never going to end.

Let's make a small chunk of Utopia a slight reality. Who cares if we break a few eggs while trying to make this omelet. Or better yet, who cares if we break assholes like this while attempting to eradicate/put a dent in crimes such as these?

“You're happy about being the first commentor? There's nothing happy about this situation.”

No, they were merely stating this was the first time they've commented on D'D.

    OH! Uh, kuddos?

Normally, it's “welcome to the site” or something similar. I like your dog fighting suggestion.

This reminds me of Charles Ng's stall tactics, once he was extradited from Canada to face his raft of murder/torture-related charges in the Lake/Ng murders and mayhem. Courts are way too tolerant of these stalling tactics—swift justice is not only a defendant's right, but an obligation of the justice system for all concerned, including the victims.

What's the difference? This is California, not Texas. I think California executes one person a decade. I am sure nothing will change for this guy in prison, too bad, because he does deserve the absolute worst behind bars.

I'm pleased your first post was to my story, Anna :) I'd LOVE to get my hands on footage of that game show!!!! Creepy stuff!!!

  • popeyeray

Adding four other murders to his already impressive resume will no doubt terminate his life. His jockeying for position with the likes of the Hillside Strangler and the Freeway Killer is pretentious since they were world class competitors in their fields. He is simply an amateur, he's a movie of the week, a t-shirt, at best!

  • Namelarry

OMG! This guy is a real animal. He killed my cousin in NYC in 1971. Even if he gets off on this…he is headed to NYC for two known murders here…I hope he dies a miserable death!

  • Larry

Anna, You should think before you write…He would kill you in a heart beat you freak! He killed over 50 women! This is not funny!

  • defenestratethis

Sounds to me like she just wanted to see footage of that particular 'Dating Game' show, not actually date this bastard.

What is up with everyone jumping on this person for her comment? She gets fucked for stating she is a first time commenter and now for stating she would like to see the Dating Game footage (which I would like to see as well). She can't win for losing, :)

  • ceisdsgil

That's because California is fuckin' broke! ROFLMAO

  • Kate

Larry…. did she say the situation was funny? I must have missed that.

Dude! Settle down! I don't want to have him over to watch it with me, i just want to see the way a person acts on “The dating game” while between killings and on parole. Is he seemingly normal? Creepy? Was he *shudder* charming enough to have a girl go out with him? Did he get a date? If he did, did she survive? There are just a ton of questions here!

Thank you, Morbid. I have been reading on this site for more than 6 months, and this was the first time I felt I really had to comment. Normally I find someone who said pretty much what I was thinking, so I don't want to look redundant. But how surreal would that be to watch that video? I wonder what all the fuss is about? I believe we are all a bit morbid for even reading this site.

Thank you, Scarlett. I enjoy your stories, and your twisted humor. This makes me think about all the contestants on all the shows. Wonder how many other freaks have been on them, charming the pretty ladies while fantasizing about killing them?

  • Miss Doyle

His appearence reminds me of Ted Bundy.

I was thinking that too. He is Bundyesque. He probably looked pretty good 20 years ago. Pyscho killer freak!!

“Cops put together a composite sketch of a suspect from witnesses, which two patrol cops saw and concluded that Alcala, a local known to them, was their man.

But he wasn’t arrested until July 24, 1979, after an Orange County detective saw Alcala on TV – as a contestant on the old “Dating Game” show.

The killer had been selected to be Bachelor No. 1, and he won the date. The woman refused to go out with him.”

    “What is your best time?”
    “Night time.”
    “Why?”
“It's the best time to grab vulnerable young women and children and rape, beat, and murder them, silly!”

Lord, that man was creepy even then. I wonder what happened to “sensational” Cheryl Bradshaw?

  • EveryVillainIsLemons

As it turns out, Cheryl Bradshaw didn't go out with him after the show because he creeped her out. This article talks about it and more about the cases against him and how much of a douchebag he really is: http://www.ocweekly.com/2010-01-21/news/rodney-
