Crazy Nekkid Hyjinx With Bayron Lopez

San Clemente, CAPolice got the first call at about 4:30 Wednesday morning – Bayron Lopez’s neighbors were complaining about the volume of his music. When the cops showed up, Lopez jumped out the window of his third-story apartment and disappeared into the dark. The next call came in at about 6:00 that morning – Julie Donnelly reported that a strange man had approached her and her dog, Kokanee, in an “aggressive and threatening manner” on the street. Kokanee, a 5-year-old miniature schnauzer, stepped in front of her human in an attempt to protect her. At that point, Lopez wrapped his hands around Kokanee’s little neck and started to choke her. He hit the dog several times. He then forcefully and repeatedly slammed the dog’s head into the pavement. Lopez left the scene as Kokanee died in Julie’s arms. Just a short time later, there were several calls to the police department about a nekkid man running through the Rancho San Clemente Tennis Club while pouring hot coffee on his head. (Seriously, I would pay good money to see some surveillance video of that shit)! He was arrested there at the club – which, it turns out, is where he is employed. And that, my friends, was the end of Bayron Lopez’s eventful morning. The 28-year-old was initially hospitalized due to his bizarre behavior – police think drugs may have played a role in said wacko behavior. Uhh…ya think? Judging by dude’s mugshot, he was still flyin’ pretty high. So far, the only charge they have on him is cruelty to animals.

This turd burglar isn't mental. He was high on dope. Anyway, a happy ending to this sad story.

Free puppy for family whose dog was killed in attack

SAN CLEMENTE – It was a bizarre and violent incident that left Steve and Julie Donnelley distraught and stunned last week. Their mini schnauzer was allegedly beaten to death by a man who police say was apparently under the influence of drugs.

But if there was a signal to move forward, it came from their 14-month-old son John the following night, Julie Donnelley said, and an outpouring of support has helped ease the family's pain.

"The first night, my son was looking for her and saying, "Dog, dog," she said. "It just broke our heart."

Donnelley was walking 5-year-old Kokanee early Wednesday morning when she said she was approached by Bayron Reyes Lopez, a 26-year-old maintenance worker. Authorities said Lopez grabbed the mini-schnauzer and started beating it to death, slamming it onto the sidewalk while Donnelley watched and screamed for help. Lopez was taken into custody later that day, allegedly while walking naked in the tennis club where he worked. Investigators believe Lopez was under the influence of drugs.

Hours after the alleged attack occurred, Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department, said he was receiving calls and donations from employees of the Sheriff's Department, all wanting to find the Donnelleys a new pet.

"People were calling and giving money," he said. "It was the right thing to do."

Then came a call Friday morning from Julie Pells, the owner of The Sand Bar Pet Shop in Mission Viejo, who read about the Donnelleys' story and immediately thought about the two female schnauzer puppies for sale in her shop. After calling The Orange County Register, she was put in contact with the Sheriff's Department.

Later the same day, Julie Donnelley received a picture from Amormino of the two salt-and-pepper puppies on her cellular phone while she and her husband were driving to San Diego.

The picture came with a question: Would they be interested in a new puppy?

Pells said she wanted to donate the puppy to the Donnelleys. With donations collected from sheriff's employees, the puppy's expenses – including shots, spaying and accessories – would be covered. For the family, it was a decision of whether or not it was too soon.

The couple talked about perhaps waiting a bit longer before adopting a new pet, but they knew their son John missed having the dog around, Julie Donnelley said. His first two words were "ball" and "dog," and he immediately noticed when Kokanee was missing Wednesday night.

The couple turned their car around and headed to the Mission Viejo shop to meet the newest member of their family.

"Everyone kind of has their own time," Julie Donnelley said Monday morning in a phone interview. "It seemed like all the cards fell in the right place. It doesn't replace Kokanee, but it allows us to start a new chapter."

She and her husband are still saddened by Kokanee's death, Donnelley said. They adopted Kokanee when she was just 8 weeks old, an energetic puppy that Donnelley believes saved her life. Had Kokanee not stepped between her and Lopez, she fears that she would have been the one attacked.

Meanwhile, Lopez remains in custody at Theo Lacy Jail. He was scheduled for an arraignment hearing Monday morning, but it was postponed because of medical reasons, Amormino said. Witnesses reported that Lopez poured hot coffee over his head before he was taken into custody. He is currently being held in the jail's medical ward.

"I still miss Kokanee," Julie Donnelley said. "I'm still very sad. I miss my dog and it's difficult to sleep at night."

But the family's new pet is helping to relieve the hurt, she said.

There was an immediate connection between the family and the new puppy, she said, and 14-month-old John has developed an immediate bond with her.

"She's particularly interested in playing with him," she said. "It's amazing. It's his dog."

The two dogs have noticeably different personalities, she said. Kokanee was a bit more energetic, while the new puppy is more relaxed and focused on John, she said. The two are constantly playing together, but when John grabs a toy, the new puppy just gives it up.

Now they are hoping to move forward and transition the new puppy into their lives, she said. They've set up a crate in their bedroom where the dog will sleep. They are starting to train her on a leash.

"I wasn't physically hurt, but I was emotionally hurt," she said. "It will cycle through, but I'm working through it."

Now is time for the family to start a new chapter with their new dog, Kootenay, she said.

I don't think it was just drugs, I think he has serious mental issues.
  • I can never read these but do appreciate the knowledge of knowing how low people can sink.
  • See, this is why I say, if you're going to own a dog under 40lbs, just get a fucking cat. They require less work, but are about as useful.

I feel terribly sorry for this woman. I can't imagine having to look on as your stubby little dog dies after trying to protect you. But it does reenforce my appreciation for my personal 120lb Cujo.

Try that with one of my babies and the police would do good to have ANY of him left to scrape off the pavement!!

Hopefully he’ll have a cellmate just waiting to slam his head into the pavement as soon as he comes down from his high.
