MTV’s Shane Sparks Arrested for Child Molestation

Shane Sparks is a judge on the MTV show “America’s Best Dance Crew” and a choreographer on “So You Think You Can Dance” (a show I do not watch, no matter how many people might tell you otherwise). On Friday, he was arrested and charged with 8 counts of molestation, including a lewd act upon a child. The lewd acts include oral copulation and other acts “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of the defendant, who was at least 10 years older than [the victim].” The alleged molestation took place in 1994 and involved an underage girl. Sparks is being held on $590,000 bail. That’s two choreographers from “So You Think You Can Dance” that have been arrested this year on sexual offense charges. Earlier this year Alex Da Silva was charged with eight counts of sexual assault, including rape. TMZ reported that all of Da Silva’s victims were aspiring dancers who met Da Silva in a class he taught.

I call Bullshit What is it about these females they lay up with these guys all in hopes of hitting the “lottery”

Sorry, but that's dumbass thing to say about a child victim. Did you not see the word "underage"?

How about this: what is it with adult men using their authority and influence to sexually molest children? And what is it with people who blame the victims of such crimes? For pete's sake--if he did this, he was the adult and he was to blame. Period.
  • KTTV Fox was cited in the article stating that the victem was one of Sparks' students at the Millenium Dance Complex in LA.

Which is strange, as other reports from people are reporting inappropriate (but not illegal) activity between Sparks and their daughters.

I wasn't aware that Shane Sparks was a possible lottery ticket in 1994.

Well I waited 10yrs before telling and there was not a gravy train in sight. I thought I would be a shame or be shamed for telling on him. Who knows with this one, but if he did it. Then years or no years he needs to dance in the bay area of a unit or pod.

Note: TMZ says, "The alleged incidents began occurring in 1994 and continued for several years."

So, if it happened, it wasn't a one-time thing. If it happened, the minor probably felt singled out, special, and felt in wuv with Shane Sparks. Wouldn't surprise me either way if it were true or false. We'll have to see what happens.

Even if someone is looking for a gravy train, it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Those things are not mutually exclusive by any means, and this sort of thing--a version of the "casting couch" scenario--happens so often as to be practically a cliche. I see no reason to call shenanigans based on the fact that 15 years have passed. If someone just wanted a gravy train, they could have made allegations a long time ago.
  • Yep, I'm going to have to hop on the "false accusation" bandwagon. It's a little too conveniently timed for me to think otherwise. I mean, why wait 15 years if there's any physical evidence? Of course, there probably isn't any. The arrest and charges against the other choreographer probably gave someone an idea.

I agree with Jury. I'm calling bs.

And Trisha, it varies from state to state, but many states have varying degrees of limitations. For instance, in CA, if DNA proves that someone committed an assault 10 years ago, prosecutors have one year to bring up charges. However, if DNA was not collected, and it's not considered an "aggrevated rape", in that there was no weapon involved, the limit is six years. In Alabama, there is no statute of limitations at all, (for rape and assault).

I think the real question is whether or not he videotaped himself pissing on her...

1994, come on. There is something rotten in Denmark here. Someone's looking for the gravy train.
  • wow. I watched the first ABDC. I never would have thought that about him, he seems like a nice guy.

isn't there a statute of limitations on sexual assult? just wondering. he deserves some type of punishment if this is true.
