Police Use Tazer On Out Of Control 10-Year-Old Boy

Pueblo, Colorado – Deputies had to Taze a 10-year-old boy after being called to his foster home where he was reportedly destroying property. The boy threatened deputies with a pipe and a stick, and threw a piece of wood at them. Once they had him cornered, he got his ass Tazed. The boy’s foster father supports the deputies’ action. “A two-foot piece of pipe can do a lot of damage, I don’t care who is swinging it. If they go and try and tackle him and try and take it away from him, even if he doesn’t hurt them, they’re probably going to hurt him a lot worse than the tazer did. I think what they did was right. I’m completely behind what they did,” said Daniel Bilby, foster father. The boy was not hurt and was booked into Pueblo Youth Center on suspicion of menacing with a deadly weapon.

      This case is only slightly more justified than the case involving the 10 year old girl, but still generally unjustified. According to the article I read, the boy was running away from the officers with the pipe. Either way, though, tasers are very dangerous for children, and, when they don’t trigger full-on cardiac arrest, they can certainly cause less obvious damage to the heart that can cause problems down the road.

      I just can’t support police using tasers against children except in extreme circumstances.

      This boy is in foster care. I’m sure that there are emotional or psychological problems that may have something to do with this little boy’s rage. I was in foster care as a child and I saw more than one kid act this way. Tazing kids can kill them. When we read of parents who killed their children after getting frustrated with crying and temper tantrums we are angry. Even when the parents kill them on accident. A cop can tazer a kid, potentially causing serious injury or death and we’re applauding? I am confused.
