Flashbacks throughout the series show how Harry, who died several years before, instructed Dexter on the art of appearing normal, and he follows Harry's instructions as a sacred "Code of Harry". In accordance with this code, most of Dexter's victims must be killers themselves; people who have killed multiple times with no remorse. Dexter must also have proof that the criminals are definitely guilty before he takes action. In the episode "Return to Sender", Dexter is shown to have used the alias "Patrick Bateman" to procure powerful sedatives to use on victims. This is the same name used by Bret Easton Ellis for the serial killer in his 1991 novel American Psycho (as well as the 2000 film of the same name), who, like Dexter, is a seemingly normal person by day but a ruthless serial killer by night.

Rising Sun - Prosecutors have now charged a 17-year-old boy with the murder of his 10-year-old brother.

They say Andrew Conley walked into the police station that night and confessed that he and his little brother were wrestling, at one point he had Connor in a headlock and the boy's head started bleeding.

According to investigators, Andrew told them at that point he put on a pair of plastic gloves and strangled his little brother for 20 minutes. He then placed a plastic bag over his head and secured it with electrical tape. He then dragged the body through the house to his car and placed him in his trunk.

He then drove to his girlfriend's house and gave her a sweetheart ring while his deceased brother was in the trunk of his car. His girlfriend described him as "more happy than she had seen him in a while."

He then drove the body to the Rising Sun City Park and dumped the body in a wooded area and covered him with vegetation, within a few hundred yards of the Elementary School that Conner attended.

During the hours of Sunday, Andrew let his parents believe that Conner was staying at his Grandma's house in Rising Sun, which was not uncommon.

"During Andrew's interview, in answer to the question, 'Why did you kill him?,' Andrew stated, 'Like, I had to. It's like when people have something, like they are hungry, and there's a hamburger sitting there and they knew they had to have it," said Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard. "Andrew also stated Conner's last words were 'Andrew, stop!' I remind you that these are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty."

An autopsy indicated the cause of death was manual strangulation and that the death was homicide.

Police say Andrew Conley was recently taken from school for self-destructive behavior, he was cutting himself.

A memorial has been placed where Conner's body was found Sunday night.
