Family Of Four Found Dead From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
November 25, 2009 by Morbid
Odessa, Texas - A family of four were found dead in their trailer by police conducting a welfare check. 30-year-old Juan Jesus Martinez, 22-year-old Judy Quezeda Martinez, 4-year-old Juan Jesus Martinez, Jr. and 2-year-old Miguel Martinez had all died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The mother and two kids were found in the living room, Mr. Martinez was found in a bedroom next to a generator that had run out of gas but was still in the “on” position. Investigators have determined that the generator was being used to provide electricity to the trailer. At some point, Martinez woke up and tried to get to the generator to turn it off, but was overcome and died. No disrespect meant towards the Martinez’s, but come one. Running a gas generator IN the trailer?
True story. Me and my 2nd wife owned a home with a gas fireplace. The house was equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. One night, the damn thing goes off. So we get up freaked out, grab the children to make sure they are ok and open the windows. We check the fireplace (that we had not used) and everything was fine. So I took the detector down and replaced the batteries. Everything seemed fine at that point. But as I crawled back in bed, I just could not go back to sleep. The thought of closing my eyes and dying from a leaky fireplace was just too lame and too terrifying. So I sat up all night to be safe and used my sleeping wife’s face for spitball target practice.
