Emanuel Lawrence Is A Heavy Sleeper

SunriseSunrise reviewsSunrise reviews, FL – Emanuel Lawrence is a man with priorities – on the top of the list: Ganja, X-Box, and sleep. He’s got a couple of kids that fall somewhere in the middle of said list. Authorities allege that between NovemberNovember reviewsNovember reviews 17th and November 18, Emanuel engaged in a little recreational relaxation of the mary-jane kind before pulling an all-nighter in front of the X-Box. Emanuel told police that he crawled his unemployed ass into bed at about 6:00 a.m. on the 18th and had been asleep for about 45 minutes before his girlfriend woke him up and asked him to feed the kiddos. Emanuel’s girlfriend, Inez Gonzalez, has her priorities as well – she works during the day and goes to school at night. Pity she couldn’t count on her man to properly take care of business at home. Emanuel got up, fed the kids, and returned to bed with his infant, 7-month-old Jaidyn, and Jaidyn’s 3-year-old sister, Aaliyah. He placed Jaidyn between himself and Aaliyah and fell into a heavy, heavy slumber. When he awoke, 7.5 hours later, he discovered he had rolled over on the baby – she was dead.

What to do? What to do? Emanuel, quick thinking genius that he is, put Jaidyn in her crib and Aaliyah in the living room and dashed over to a friend’s house to call 911. An excerpt from that call:

Operator – 911, where’s your emergency?
Caller – I don’t know if this is an emergency or not.
Operator —I’m sorry?
Caller – My infant, she died in her crib when I got up and I don’t know how long she’s been out for.
Operator — Is something on top of her face or something?
Caller — No, but when I fed her this morning, I wrapped her up. She um, I guess she cried through the blanket and was breathing and I guess she suffocated herself. That’s my point of view of what happened.

He later admitted to the attempted cover up for fear of being arrested. Emanuel told investigators that when he awoke, his back was on top of and against Jaidyn’s back causing her little face to be squished down in the mattress. Though the medical examiner has ruled Jaidyn’s death an accident, Emanuel isn’t getting off the hook. For that brilliant show of irresponsibility, Emanuel Lawrence, 30, is charged with aggravated manslaughter – he is being held on $75,000 bond.

Are you that ignorant to believe race gives anyone a free pass.

Boughtthefarm may have been a bit hasty with his or her words, but Boughtthefarm is hardly being ignorant. It's not like it's a big secret that race gets people free passes all the time, as does class, as does gender, nor a secret that black people (especially black men) have higher rates of arrest and incarceration than do whites for similar crimes.

Meanwhile, I wish this idiot had put the baby in the baby's damn crib. His lying excuse--"I wrapped up the baby"--only further illustrates what an incompetent asshat of a parent he is. Babies should not have pillows, blankies, soft stuff, and definitely should not be wrapped the fuck up. Who doesn't know that? Do we need some mandatory parenting classes in this country or what?
  • Boughtthefarm
Wow, I don't see how that is anything but an accident. Sure he shouldn't have been on MJ [and he shouldn't have lied either] but if he was white and had taken an ambien and this happened, he wouldn't be facing manslaughter charges.
  • Jury
What about being charged with tampering with evidence at a crime scene?
  • ...but if he was white and had taken an ambien and this happened, he wouldn’t be facing manslaughter charges.

    Think again....

    David Cull Passed Out

I know we have covered more, just can't seem to find any. Color doesn't have anything at all to do with the charge....
  • I don't agree with the "aggravated" part. Either way, I'm sure no sentence can compare to what he's putting himself through.
  • Darsa
Well, I'm sure it was for medicinal purposes...

Emanuel Lawrence is a man with priorities – on the top of the list: Ganja, X-Box, and sleep.

A similar list is why I don't have kids yet...

The charge does seem to be too much. Involuntary manslaughter seems more appropriate.

Staying up all night when you have children to see after the next day, not a bright idea! I would feel more sympathy for Emanuel, had he not tried to hide it at first. I do feel for the Mom and sibling, though! You know Mom is hurting because she left the kiddos with him...... Such a tragedy!

    Thanks for the correction, Jaded.

UGH, how awful!! If you're going to co-sleep, do it responsibly! No drugs or drinking, no heavy blankets, BE RESPONSIBLE. I co-sleep with my babies when they're little, and I won't even sleep in the same bed with my husband for the first couple of months because he's such a deep sleeper. I end up waking up a dozen times during the night to check on the baby, instead of getting a decent night of rest.

    RIP, baby Jaidyn.

I agree, captainhowdy! I co-slept with my baby during the first six months or so. But my husband and I were responsible about it. As you said, no drinking, drugs, heavy blankets...and we're both fortunate enough to be extremely light sleepers. This guy had no business co-sleeping in his condition. Trying to cover it up and telling lies were a couple of no-no's, too.

I feel bad for the baby's mother and sister. Not quite so bad for the father. He shouldn't have been smoking marijuana or stayed up all night with his video game when he knew he'd have to take care of the kids.
  • kaosmayhem
If he was white he would have faced the same charges, are you kidding me. Why play the race card, at least play an economic card. Are you that ignorant to believe race gives anyone a free pass. He got fucked up and killed a baby, a fucking baby who really is innocent. Are you gonna say if that baby was white they could have saved her? That kind of comment makes me angry!
  • Perhaps "Parenting 101" be taught in high schools. Lord knows, "Home Ec" ain't doin' shit for these kids. Indeed - "Parenting 101", "Personal Finance" and "Culinary Basics" should all be REQUIRED course work at the high school level. I'm all for the arts, but what the fuck is "Ceramics" going to do for a kid if he can't balance his checkbook? Oh, the things I would do if I were the Education Czar. But I digress...

Co-sleeping is discouraged by the American Pediatrics Association and, as a pregnant lady, I've already decided that it's not a practice I'll be engaging in when I have my little unit. Not that people who do so are bad - I just know that I'm a heavy sleeper, as is mah baby daddy. So, no co-sleeping for us. Unfortunately, I'm guessing many of the hundreds of co-sleeping deaths that occur annually could be avoided if people were honest with themselves and forethinking.

I do know plenty of people who have given "family bed" with infants a shot, but if there was ever a scenario in which family bed was a terrible idea (dude has been up all night, is sacked out), it's this one.
