Amber Alert Issued For Baby Left In Idling Car *Found Alive*

NORTH CHARLESTON, South Carolina A mother left her 1-month old baby in an idling car so that she could drop off mail at the post office. When she returned to her vehicle, her 1-month-old son Angel Miguel Perez was missing. His mother states she left him in the car and when she returned a short time alter, he was gone. A witness told police a black woman in her mid-20s, about 5-foot-1 and 175 pounds, wearing a blue and white striped shirt left with the child in a gray, four-door compact vehicle with a spoiler. It is crazy to think that women do this. I mean hell, I don’t leave change sitting on the passenger seat when I leave my car, much less a friggin’ baby. Update: Angel Miguel Perez was found safe at a home in Summerville about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. A 19-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with kidnapping.

I'm glad the baby was recovered safe & sound. I hope they throw the woman who kidnapped him in jail for a long time! As for the mother, I can't help but shake my head. I don't agree that a baby should be removed from custody for one mistake, especially when the mother learns from it. Although it was a very stupid mistake that shouldn't have been made in a first place.

I don't understand how anyone can leave a baby in a car for any amount of time. My dad has tried to convince me on numerous occasions that there's nothing wrong with leaving my son in the car for a few minutes. Dad says, "Oh, honey, don't wool him around. We're only going to be in that store for two minutes..." I tell my dad that I'd rather "wool him around" than give some lowlife carte blanche to kidnap him. Or be reported to CPS and lose him forever. It's just not worth it.

North Charleston is not that small and frequently makes the list of the most dangerous cities to live in. Also, if she was dropping off mail, even my little post office has the drive though types. I know if I need to go then it's going to be 10-15 minutes so I get the stroller and take the baby in.

Police think Walker followed mother and child and saw an opportunity at the Post Office to abduct the child. Police went to the Grove Apartment Complex where they found the infant in an apartment with Walker and several other people. Those people are not facing charges.

A bond hearing for Walker is at 2 pm

why are people so damned stupid? Just for a minute...with the car running...while I go take this all important letter... to the post office where there is never a line....
I'm glad he was found but I'm sad that he's gonna have to deal with stupid mom for the rest of his life.

All the car doors were locked except the driver's side? Glad the baby was found and hoping the mother is charged with neglect. How freaking stupid!

Did the mother have a sign on her back saying car running please steal?
I have no compassion for someone that leaves a baby in a car for any amount of time
And on top of that to leave the car running is as moronic as a person can get
What we have here is a female to stupid to be raising a child
Hope the best for the baby but I have my doubts about his future

I'd say this mother has a great deal to be thankful for on this year's Thanksgiving.

Well, I know how tempting it can be to leave a child in the car for "just a few minutes", but its simply not worth it. In exchange for the brief, hassle-free time she spent at the post office, she now has a nightmare. Sure hope they find the little one.

    Angel has an identifying mark...
1:00pm Update: Important information about baby… Child has a red mark on her forehead. It becomes more redder when the child cries or gets angry.
The mother of a one-month-old baby abducted from the Rivers Avenue post office in North Charleston arrived at a police news conference Tuesday.
She’s now identified at Lidia Juarez, 26.

I believe that mark is called an Angels kiss, it usually goes away by the age of two....

Ahhh, the PoPo are suspicious too!
Now police are looking for anyone who saw the woman and her child at the North Charleston WalMart or Ross department store Monday afternoon in the hours before the baby disappeared, trying to determine whether she may have been targeted while running her errands

Is North Charleston really small? I ask, because it says that the Post office didn't have surveillance cameras, that is really odd for a Federal building to not have even a still shot camera....
This should be easy enough to confirm (about the Doctor appt)
Pryor said the trip to the post office was at the end of a day of errands that included trips to the doctor's office and stops at two department stores. The baby was taken inside with the mother on all of the errands before the post office.

Police, with the help of the FBI, are now fact-checking the mother's story and trying to piece together a timeline of events to determine exactly how long she was in the post office.

All doors to the mother's car were locked, except the driver's side door, she told police.

I have my suspicions about this one. Who was the witness and how did they know that was Angel being whisked away?
  • I was 12 when I started babysitting my niece. Of course...that was 12 years ago, which really isn't much different than these times. I think it really depends on the maturity level and such of the child. I can't say I would be leaving my kids in the car...although to be perfectly honest, I've walked away from the car with my 6-year old in it to run to pay for gas, but I never took my eyes off the car, not once. A baby though? Really? My 2-year old starts screaming when I walk from the driver's side to get him out... I guess its just common sense to me.
  • Nope, not even the 12 year old. His friend was abducted and murdered from our tiny town two years ago, and she was 11. Even if that hadn't have happened, kids do stupid things all of the time. The last thing I want to do is leave a preteen unattended in a running vehicle.
  • Not even the 12 year old? Huh.

I don't think it's an issue once kids are a bit older and better able to defend themselves, but I agree with you about an infant.
  • I'll never understand why parents leave their children in the car, even for a moment. Anything can happen to delay you getting back to them in time, not to mention if the vehicle rolls and causes an accident.
My kids are 12,7,5,3,2 and I wouldn't consider leaving ANY of them in the car unattended.
I hope that there is a good outcome to this story.
  • I suppose I can understand the temptation to leave a child "just for a moment" just like folks leave their cars running "just for a moment". But, it's never responsible. Especially considering the abductor had enough time to approach the car, open it, unbuckle the baby and leave with her without the mother seeing.

I hope they find the baby, though. It would be a shame to loose your child forever due to suck a stupid but innocent mistake.
