Kick A Ginger Kid Day

BRITISH COLUMBIA — Looks like the FacebookFacebookFacebook group titled “National Kick a Ginger Day, are you going to do it?” is being blamed for another attack against a red-head kid. The group was created as a joke and heavily influenced by the hilarious South ParkSouth Park reviewsSouth Park reviews episode “Ginger Kids” (watch episode) from 2005. The group suggests that on NovemberNovember reviewsNovember reviews 19th, you should kick a red-headed kid. Nanaimo high school student Aaron Mishkin, 13, was unaware of any of this when he went to Journey Middle School on Thursday, but found out quickly when he was continually kicked at school. “I became trapped trying to get through this press of people. And that’s when they kicked me from behind and I fell over.” When asked why a classmate was kicking him, he was told “You have no soul, so you probably can’t feel pain either.” *snicker* He was not the only red-head at the school targeted, and more than 20 students at were suspended.

I am still surprised the Facebook group exists. The episode is pretty damn funny and there is a lesson in it. The South Park guys are not advocating the kicking of red-heads. The group is, however. You all know me and I have one twisted sense of humor. I could easily use this article as a way to make my own off-color remarks against the red-head kids I don’t trust. You can thank this creepy fucker for that:

But how long would this group have lasted if it were “Slap a Black Kid Day” or “Punch A Jew Day”?  My guess is not the year the Facebook group has. I wonder if it would still be seen as a joke. My guess is that after the news reports coming out of kids being assaulted everywhere, this Facebook group will be closed shortly.

I think it's disgusting that people are abusing red-headed, freckled kids and getting away with it. The same slurs and activities would be treated much differently if it were aimed at other minorities that have banded together in groups to protect themselves from such treatment. And therein lies the difference.

I've seen the South Park episode "Ginger Kids." It's the only episode of South Park, to date, that has genuinely offended me. I still watch it from time to time because I love South Park and there are some parts of that episode that are hilarious (like when Cartman wakes up and finds that he's turned ginger overnight. Classic!) and I don't believe that I should be immune from being offended. South Park offends everyone from time to time and it took me longer to get my due. Fair enough. The reason it offended me is because I am a "daywalker." I've got the red (auburn, actually) hair and extremely pale skin, but not the freckles. I have a few friends who are gingers (carrot-red hair, pale skin & freckles) and I don't understand why some people find them creepy or repulsive. I suppose it must be a personal preference, but it doesn't give people the right to abuse them. There are some appearances I find less than appealing, but I don't go around making fun of them or encouraging people to kick them. Then again, I'm not likely to end up featured on "Dreamin' Demon."

The creators of this Facebook page are idiots. They are the poster children for a certain brand of South Park fan who doesn't actually understand South Park at all. However, if you think that the ginger menace isn't a problem...think again:

Poor kid. I can't believe they had to suspend 20 kids for that. That's ridiculous. What a stupid group.

However, I have one question: would it be unethical to use this sort of excuse to beat up a ginger man-boy? My ex-boyfriend has a flaming red fro. A significant part of me wouldn't mind swinging at him once or twice. -_- He's technically a man, but acts like a boy.

Yeah, maybe I should have included a warning. But I think it made my point about the ginger menace quite well.

    I aim to please. :)

Mostly, though, I just find Carrot Top almost mesmerizing in his repulsiveness.

    Funny you mention that....

    - Middle school officials in Naples, Fla., say they will concentrate on cultural sensitivity training after punishing 10 students for staging "kick a Jew day."
    [...]
School district spokesman Joe Landon told the newspaper a student complained Thursday she was kicked because it was "kick a Jew day." Ten middle school students were subsequently disciplined with one-day, in-school suspensions that were served Tuesday.
