I currently live in an area that’s big on hunting and fishing, (I miss civilization. Can someone please kidnap me and take me back? Thanks.) and we have many people doing these same things–hunting without license, hunting on property that they’re not allowed to be hunting on, hunting with illegal firearms, hunting certain animals when they’re not in season, etc.

I was in court a few months back where a man was charged with hunting illegally on someone’s property. They might as well just pooh-pooh’d him out of the court. He had to pay some kind of kiddie fine. Yes, this man will have to live with this on his hands for the rest of his life, but I think if laws were tougher on this sort of thing maybe this tragedy wouldn’t have happened.

You know, they say that if you kill someone while in the process of committing a crime you are responsible for that person’s death. I believe that should more equally applied and should include, always, cases like this one. As an aside, I also believe it should include cases where the person accidentally kills themselves while in perpetuation of a crime. That way the families of jackasses who, just as one example; fry themselves while trying to steal copper wire can’t sue the owners of the property for their moron family member’s death.

However…I once knew a couple of guys who were driving down a country road and spotted a deer in the woods. It was not deer season, but they decided to go after it anyway. One went off into the woods, the other heard a rustling and fired…shooting his pal in the head and killing him. No charges were ever brought against the shooter, even though it only happened because they were poaching…which is illegal.
