FLEMING ISLAND, Florida - When Dana Whitelaw, 47, got out of the shower Tuesday morning, she found her entire family dead. Her husband, Jerry Whitelaw, 49, had shot their two children — 16-year-old son, Kevin, and 11-year-old daughter, Katy — while they slept. He then turned the gun on himself. Court records show that Dana had filed for divorce in late AugustAugust reviewsAugust reviews after 16 years of marriage, but continued to live together during the process. Police have no records of ever having to go to their residence in the past. Kevin was a junior at St. Johns Country Day in Orange Par, Katie attended Grace Episcopal. I think what makes this particular murder-suicide is the blatant purpose behind it. Jerry wanted Dana to live after this, knowing it was the best possible way to hurt her. Kill her kids, then let her live with that fact. Absolutely horrifying in its cold-blooded callousness. I can not possibly imagine anything my wife could do to me that could have me killing my own kids to get back at her. That is signs of one very, very selfish man – or one that is extremely mentally disturbed.

    omg! Hell yeah, that’s selfish! He obviously hated his wife, AND his kids, in order to be able to do something like this.

    it’s said daily around here, but I’ll never understand why these people feel the need to take out others before themselves.

    That’s what creeps me out about marriage. At one point, these people loved each other so much, they pledged their entire lives to one another. How people can go from that to this will hopefully remain a mystery to me.

    I know, I can’t imagine how it must feel, the person you loved, pledged yourself too, had children with being capable of something so heinous….Poor woman…

    Definitely selfish and he was likely one of those dominating and controlling assholes that make you feel suffocated 24/7. Had one of those myself but I got out without anything serious happening – and thank God we didn’t have any children!

    Having Just gotten divorced, this infuriates me, my ex is the mother of my children. Yes I still love her and always will, we parted, I love her enough to wish her nothing but happiness. It is what it is, this jackass should have just slit his own wrists, why kill your children. I wish they could revive him just so they could kill him again

    Wow, how horrible. I hope at least she maybe saw some warning signs in him. Not that it would change the outcome or ease her mind, but to have someone suddenly do something like this out of the blue is a terrifying thought.
    Anger can definitely make people do some crazy things but killing should never be one of them…..

    I don’t think the guy was mentally disturbed. Just selfish and mean. And evil, can’t forget evil. If there’s a hell, I hope he’s there now. He should have just shot himself and left his innocent children out of it.

    So many lives he fucked up. Friends, family, teachers, neighbors anyone who loved this woman and her children. Also his family, I can’t even imagine. Some people you know a good part of your life, but how well do you really know them?
